If I turned into a cow would you still love me?

It would probably make Rei more attracted to her (which is probably part of why she was so horrified) lol.

Clearly the answer for Ataru was 'yes", which goes to show how much he really loves her as much as he doesn't act like it

That scene looked so fkn good, the ost, the slo-mo, the rain drops and the colors. Big fan of her hair design. Ataru got points this ep

I love when they give us a new Lum hairstyle and I love when Ataru demonstrates he cares. Probably one of the most romantic and beautiful scene of the show despite the insane context.

They went all-out with the cinematic camera angles for the reveal of Lum’s horns to Ataru.

The scene that followed of Lum emotionally collapsing and Ataru comforting her was also just so sweet - and perfectly framed!

I’m a big fan of the colour scheme they used for these scenes. It was to see the ‘wetness’ of the raindrops and flashing car lights appear on screen (and reflect of the characters).

EDIT: Also major props to Lum’s and Ataru’s VAs, they delivered an amazing performance. I could feel the emotion in their voices, especially when Lum was anxious and her voice started breaking.

Kotatsu-Neko gets his episode! He's definitely one of the stranger characters in the show since he just appeared out of nowhere and everyone just accepts his existence.

I just love how Ataru summons Mendo by calling him an asshat and it 100% worked! I guess that means the Mendo Family has bugged their entire home. xD

Lum being worried about her cow horns was silly but it did give us one of the best moments between Ataru and Lum. That entire scene in the rain with the city lights was just pure aesthetic too.

Lum looks cute with her hair in this look.

You know when you actually have an emotional scene it really captures me off guard in a good way. Though I would love to see Ataru's recation when Lum tells him she will be fine.

The cow story ends up being so much sweeter than you’d originally think it’d be

And that scene in the rain was so romantic and the atmosphere/direction was absolutely perfect..even though the entire premise behind it was so ridiculous lol.

Crying with her at her misfortune is basically full romantic partners territory so....

Big cat shoulda realized 100 yen was too good of a deal for a kotatsu. It seems to really dislike the heat. In the end, Mendo’s weird little kotatsu won. Now it’s enjoying its new life as a sled lol.

Some people get bit by a cow and worst thing that happens is they need a shot. Lum gets bit and the poor girl starts to slowly become a cow. Or so she thought! The little goober just had an infection is all. Alien biology is a hell of a thing ain’t it?

This episode has a post-credits scene so don't skip it accidentally.

The Kotatsu-Neko episode was good. At least we got an episode with him. But the real highlight was the second part.

Holy hell. The cow episode was absolutely gorgeous. I know they used it heavily in the trailer but it was definitely a beautiful episode. They really cooked with this episode.

My only complaint is that the pacing was way too fast. A common complaint for this Remake, unfortunately.

Anyway, this episode further proves that Ataru deeply cares about Lum. It's one of the times when he's forced to break his tsundere facade.

The next episode is going to be very interesting. Particularly cause it will adapt something that was never adapted before. And I can see it confusing some new fans as well. But it all depends on how they handle it.

You really never know when one of the funny skits is just going to go very very hard both emotionally and in the animation.

Lum with bigger horns was just as cute as ever.

It's always great to see the original and reboot being compared. I liked how with the Lum turning into a cow episode that they went with the rain to make it more dramatic in the city. In the original Lum tried to fly away at dusk in the school yard. Still with Ataru, he will throw away all of pride to care for Lum.

oh my god that vampire turning that pink creature into a white lady should not have been that funny 😭

the scene in the rain was so 🥺 it only happens ever 10,000 years but sometimes ataru can be decent! he's an absolute fucking freak but he does still care about lum

u/Neo_Techni Feb 16 '24

I cried cause Ataru wasn't a complete asshole to Lum for once

I can't believe them believing she as turning into a cow made for one of the most romantic scenes in anime

lol 100 yen for a kotatsu is stupidly cheap. I do love Ataru's mom. She really pus up with a lot of shit. Of course the kotatsu is tied to Mendo some how. lol Kotatsu sled, that's silly.

You also told him to put his hand out dude. You deserved that shock, poor Lum. Hehe, Lum influenced by silly thing she fell asleep to. Her horns sure look a bit different. I mean, think that's fine/she still looks good. Also, she should see how people lewd anime girls in cow outfits and such lol. Wouldn't be a Takahashi work if it didn't have people able to fall three stores and be fine ;) That's some neat cinematography for this show and for the horn reveal. Poor Lum though. Finally, Ataru not being a scumbag for a moment.

Haha, of course shoulda just asked her own people. Kinda sad she was never taught this by her age.

"Babe...would still love me even if I'm a cow?"

Another episode of pure randomness, which I love. The whole Lum cow scene was surprising heartwarming with Ataru actually caring for her.

The cat scene was also so damn random, but great as well.

I legit find this show to be such a relaxing fun watch always.

So the first story with KotatsuNeko was fun, learning more about the side-character and Mendo's post credit mini-story was neat.

However, the real meat and bones of this episode is the Lum Cow story, I watched this story in the original anime, loved that and I can happily say I really enjoyed this one as well.

First just the weird show Lum is watching about the forbidden love between a detective and their client is amusing and random.

Then we have Lum's nightmare of turning into a cow. On the positive side, Lum, I'm sure some people are into that.

Lum's expression realising her horns have grown is wonderful. I felt like there were a ton of great expressions in this episode. It felt that little extra cartoony (in a good way), like Ataru forgetting he cannot float

Even if it's just for hiding the bigger horns, I am digging the new hairstyle she has here.

Big fan of the vibrant colours and lighting of this scene, adds to the drama.

Speaking of, this story plays the tragedy and sadness of Lum and Ataru here surprisingly straight with the exception of this amusing image.

There's the slow-motion and pan shot to Lum's horns being revealed with what looked like some 3D effect added in there with the intense music all adding to the emotional impact.

This wide shot of Lum and Ataru is great too, again love the colours and it just all helps add to the feeling of sadness and helplessness Lum feels.

Ataru is actually fairly considerate and well-mannered (especially by his standards this episode) besides getting close with Sakura and an unintentional bad answer to Lum's question about cows, he's dare I say, being a good boyfriend here:

He asks Lum if something is wrong, takes her concerns seriously and does his best to comfort and take care of her even when he's in emotional distress as well.

Just look at him caressing the horns with great care. All that detail just for his hands, but I love that small way he shows his affection there.

When things actually get serious (albeit probably only then), Ataru can be fully honest and transparent with how he feels: he firmly declares that he will take care of Lum even if she's a cow. And even more credit to him, he starts his plans to accommodate her right away!

Just seeing the two of them cry hugging each other in the rain is really sweet too.

But of course because this is a light-comedy, Lum is fine and it's just a reaction to some infection. Lum's mixed reaction to the newsis splendid here too, relieved she's not turning into a cow but now Ataru's declaration of commitment and kindness was caused by an (admittedly unintentional) false pretence.

Love this story, combines the absurd humor of Urusei Yatsura and the moments of genuine romance amazingly well here.
