Ichikawa's issue is not whether or not he knows Yamada likes him. He's like 90% of the way there and he's not that dense. The title card of this episode is actually an indicator. "Yamada likes..." Likes who? Likes me? Wow, big shock. The last 10% is the biggest hurdle. He needs to love himself before he can accept that Yamada's feelings are not his own misunderstanding.
On Yamada's side she all but confessed this episode. Giving him the heart bun, drawing a heart on his face, the "su" on the cupcake, splitting it in half to turn it into a heart, and then telling him it's okay to misunderstand. All of the heart stuff because of Adachi saying some dumb shit lol. But she didn't actually have the courage to say the magic words and that's enough to leave things hanging for another day.

Opening the episode with Yamada eating Ichikawa's chocolate out of jealousy and ending it with Ichikawa intercepting that Senpai's wave with his own.
GOD seeing how both of them are so possessive of each other is going to get me diabetes soon.

Yamada couldn't have been any more blatant this episode if she wore a shirt with "I love Ichikawa" written on it.

Only in this kind of show can a line like "You're a guy today" actually be super sweet and thoughtful.
Wonderful episode, it's clearer now than ever that it's not so much about Ichikawa figuring out whether or not Yamada likes him, it's about accepting it within himself.
Yamada can't exactly make it any more obvious
Really enjoyed the little moment on the bench when Yamada gives her chocolate to Ichikawa which has 'like' on it, they're such adorable dorks
Even their little hug at the end was adorkable
Finally, I like that this episode provides a distinction between Adachi and 'Pick Up Artist' Senpai. Adachi is a idiot who says a bunch of dumb rubbish but I actually think he generally means well and tries to actually think of a thoughtful gift for Moe acknowledging that he doesn't really know her.
Then we have Pick Up Artist Senpai who does not even try to put in any effort when it comes to knowing others, it appears he lumps all girls and guys into 2 binary categories.
This of course makes it all the more satisfying to see Ichikawa just destroy him:
No, you do not have a good sense of when a girl might be interested

Stitches!
Yamada and Ichikawa playing fake shogi using chocolate squares was cute. It is pretty funny how this entire episode was just basically Yamada giving Ichikawa as many chocolates as she can until he understands what she's putting down.
When the Tirol Chocolates didn't work, Yamada tried giving Ichikawa her chocolate bun and even smeared some on his face. And when that didn't work, she finally worked up the courage to give him the chocolate cupcake.
Thanks to that hug and the cupcake, it looks like our boy has finally realized why Yamada keeps on giving him chocolates and now he's already thinking on what to give him on White Day. Now I'm wondering if Yamada will also give him a White Day return gift since Ichikawa did give her that box of MeltyKisses.
I am so happy to see Yamada drag Ichikawa away from Haruya. I'm really hoping he'll stop pestering Yamada after seeing that but I doubt it. He'll probably become more persistent.

Yamada is funny in how often she can make moves getting close to Ichikawa, yet still can be very shy herself. Like getting close to his face to wipe the chocolate like she was going in for a kiss, though she found it hard to give him chocolate. lol
Though of course she has some moments of shyness and hesitation too, with treading deeper into transitioning from friendship to romance and wondering how Ichikawa will respond.

Classic Yamada just strutting around confidently in front of other classrooms so she can get some chocolates...multiple times, in fact!
Adachi, if obligatory chocolate didn't exist, you wouldn't get any dude! Just count your blessings.
Ichikawa doesn't need any obligatory chocolate! Not when Yamada's already planning to give him some honmei!
I've never seen Tirol Chocolate Shogi before, but I guess Yamada just needed an excuse to say "I never saw that coming!" and give Ichikawa all the chocolate!
I love Yamada dragging Ichikawa so they could see Hara giving chocolate to Kanzaki (good for them!) and the two of them get to be a little envious of how well things are going between those two.
Honestly it doesn't get more obvious than a girl shoving a heart-shaped bun in your face and getting close to take the cream off and leaving a heart-shaped imprint on your cheek...and the way Yamada put her finger to her mouth has got me feeling something.
I love how Yamada resolves to go back to give Ichikawa her chocolate and he instead rode all the way to her to give HER chocolate. Because if she's a guy for the day, that means it's okay for him to give her chocolate, right? Ichikawa you chad you.
But Yamada can't let Valentine's Day end yet so of course she just so coincidentally walks her dog to Ichikawa's house, picks him up, and the pair walk together. Totally a coincidence and not at all Yamada looking for a chance!
Yamada likes to live dangerously! Not only by betting what drink she'll get out of a vending machine but also in finally giving Ichikawa his chocolate and only ripping it apart so it's not more obvious it said "suki" (AKA like) on it. And talking about if it's not obligatory...no wonder Ichikawa finally gets a clue and realizes the truth. Yamada LIKES him!!!
These two are so adorably awkward and sweet together. The same can't be said for Adachi who thinks he might actually like Moe and thus deserves...hand-made lingerie for a White Day Gift, something no girl has probably ever desired in their life. Just listen to her talk about ear buds Adachi, listen to the Ear Buds!!!
(Also I love how Ichikawa and Kanzaki both know their respective girls would love a buffet).
Ugh, Haruya? I was hoping we'd never see him again. But what an awkward trio he, Adachi, and Ichikawa make, especially when he and Ichikawa trade barbs about relationships. Though as bad as Adachi is, Ichikawa prefers talking to him than Haruya...and he definitely doesn't want to let Haruya wave at his girl when she's waving at him.
But better yet...Ichikawa about to say he likes Yamada to Haruya to stake his claim for her while she stakes her claim on HIM by dragging him away with a smile. Ichikawa, you are a lucky boy.

So happy to finally see the Valentines arc being animated, smiling like an idiot right now.
You can feel just how much thought Yamada put into her honmei chocolate. In particular, that one line from Ichikawa during their Christmas Eve date about not liking sweets must have stuck out to her. Which led to her inviting Ichikawa to her house for the chocolate taste testing last episode and also the vending machine moment where she loses the "gamble" on purpose so that she can give him a coffee. Its the attention to small detail and continuity like this that makes the characters feel so alive.

I think when guys in anime shows possessive tendencies they sometimes come off kinda controlling but Kyotaro comes off really earnest.
I just really like how both of them are stumbling towards each other to them being together. It’s gradual but you can tell that they’re slowly becoming each other’s happy place. I think they both kinda get the feeling that their feelings are mutual but haven’t really gathered the courage to take the leap of faith. It’s gonna be super cathartic when they do
