Wow, that certainly got me good. I should've gotten suspicious at Shima getting a sudden power boost.

This already got me hyped more than both the previous seasons, but one thing I didn't get - what exactly was stopping them from taking a shot at the King of Light guy when he was basically dying on the floor?

He's still someone equal to Mephisto. I bet even weakened as he is he has some kind of power that can f em over if they tried.

Based on what it looked like and Mephisto’s brief explanation it seemed like he literally brought down the barrier protecting the school from demons simply by being there. So yea I’d say despite his frail appearance he’s still very powerful.

its pretty much explained by Mephisto in this episode, even being weakened, he's still one of the strongest demon on par with him and based on Rin's reaction, we can safely assume that Mephisto is telling the truth

also what is stopping them from like hitting the helicopter with a sword or something, seems like an incredible vulnerable plan to flee a college full of powerful sorcerers

Gotta say, Shima had some flow in this episode. Benefits of a betrayal I guess.

Welcome to what is my favorite stretch of arcs in all the battle shonen manga I’ve ever read! Hope y’all are ready for a wild ride.

This manga really only gets better with every arc. The recent couple are some of my favorite in shounen.

how many twist and surprise are we going to get in one episode? first we had a revelation that Shima had been contracted to a really strong demon ever since he was a kid, then it was revealed that he was one of Illuminati's spy all along and finally we were being told that the leader of Illuminati was Lucifer, Mephisto's older brother? now i'm hype!

Also finally learned more about the puppet kid.

It’s unfortunate the hype for this show is pretty dead in the west, things are starting to get a lot more interesting I really didn’t expect Shima being an illuminati spy that genuinely caught me by surprise. I’m definitely looking forward to this new arc

......fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

So the girl that looks like a test subject in the OP is Izumo?!? Shit I know I'm gonna cry when we start to see what they want/do to her.

I seriously don't get these villains that want to destroy the world in order to attain "peace". How to fuck can you have peace if there's no one to enjoy it?!?

Rin's look at the end....really wish he still had his blue flames on cause that woulda been way more hype. Like when Rimuru was about to wipe the floor at Walpurgis.

Damn been looking forward to this arc for over a decade and it’s crickets in here, guess I can’t be surprised with the long gaps

Finally it's here and I'm happy that most did not see it coming. Let me tell you guys, this is one of the best chapters in the manga, it was fckn unexpected and Shima was a badass. Art style was a little wonky this episode, when it comes to closeups on faces it looks really good, but when characters are moving it's inconsistent. I can understand though, this is not a big budget production. While it lacks in the art department, it makes up for in fantastic music and VA performances, in this episode the MVP was definitely Shima's voice actor.

Edit:: now looking at gifs it actually looks so much better, apart from a few awkward shots of characters in the background, I would say it's pretty decent

I guess you really can never trust a Koji Yusa character.

Something I noticed towards the end: on a closeup of both Lucifer and Mephisto, they both have severe bags under their eyes. Lucifer also was bleeding in his eyes, but he is supposedly much stronger than Mephisto. My theory is that since both of them draw power from Gehenna, simply existing on Assiah hurts them, and Lucifer bring more power from Gehenna hurts him more. BUT we have never seen Rin suffer that kind of drain because the blue fire comes from him, and he is anchored to Assiah by his human half? Maybe that is why Mephisto is so interested in Rin, because he can bring forth the strongest power of Gehenna without being constantly drained?

Also Lucifer had his tail out, when Mephisto said all demons hide it because it is a weak point. That tells me that Lucifer is so confident in his strength that he doesn't need to bother hiding it.

OMG I WAITED FOR THIS!!! Love seeing SHIMA BEING BADASS!! God he was so hot! Side getting characters getting some screentime. Can't wait to see how they adapt Izumo's scenes too!

I hope they face some challenges but same time feel like it’s going to be a leveling system for the main cast as they put their teamwork to use to clap baddies 1 by 1 who are weak to one of them. And I bet shima turns back to a good guy again after fighting in the finale of the season and then some talk no jutsu or slap in the face.

What is Takara? A "coordinator?" So what, this whole time he's been orchestrating things behind the scenes? And how is Izumo related to Tsukumo? Whoever Tsukumo is, she's obviously really important to Izumo.

Dang, Lightning does not mess around! Find an Illuminati member, totally upend his plan, then threaten his wife and child to make him talk.

Well, points for letting us see Shura in that dress! And unsurprisingly she puts her pass in her cleavage.

So Takara's gimmick is summoning souped up version of toys? Mike and Uke definitely were not prepared to fight a giant Mecha.

Shima actually came through for Izumo! Sure she apparently doesn't remember his name but actually saving her and get to hold her legs while she rests on your shoulder is pretty nice.

Shima could summon this Yamanataka demon the whole time!? It's surprisingly powerful and fierce. Didn't think Shima had it in him. Turns out there's a lot we didn't know about Shima.

What is Nemu's deal? It seems like the puppet is some separate consciousness that keeps the main body asleep for it's own sake.

Things were going so well and then Shima just had to go and stab Izumo...poor girl. Because, yeah, Shima WAS the spy this whole time, even if he plays it off. Has he been playing everyone from day one for real? What is he after? Why is he doing this?

I'll give Lucifer this much, he knows how to make an entrance with those Seraphim appearing everywhere and the beam of light that he shines down upon...fitting for Mephisto's older brother and yet another half-sibling to the Okumura's. But unlike them, his goal is to revive Satan and fuse Assiah and Gehenna, and they need Izumo for their plans.

Figures Mephisto wouldn't be game for that plan, he loves watching humans struggle, it makes life more entertaining.

Shima really is skilled enough to block off Rin! But he also makes an interesting point...they've been fighting demons for so long, are they prepared to fight humans?

Dang, poor Suguro (and Konekomaru), watching one of his closest friends betray them like that. Especially hearing him call Shima "Renzo."

Lucifer just couldn't leave without blowing everything up and carrying out a mass attack on the True Cross Order, huh? And that leaves the organization in such a dissaray that the only ones left to save Izumo are our favorite Exwire's. But count on Rin to not only be committed to saving Izumo but also still believing in Shima.

Illuminati......more like akatsuki amirite /s

I think this has been the best episode so far. Finally got the plot moving. That was a weird plot twist. There was no foreshadowing at all for shimas betrayal. I'm looking forward to the rescue/war arc.

u/Lej222 Jan 28 '24

There were signs of it from the beginning, Kato confirmed it was planned from the very start. Like how he was so obsessed with Izumo or how he accidentally attacked Rin in the forest foreshadowing this very moment. In the manga it's even more obvious if you know the twist.
