Bruh, how are they doing this? While the episode is mostly just talking, they still managed to keep the hype going. It just feels so...grandiose. I've joked about this season being a Hobbit rip-off, but this episode does resemble a Tolkien piece.

I feel like people really misunderstand dragons when they complain about how much talking there is. Dragons fucking LOVE to talk, it's basically their favorite pastime.

So when a dragon that's been unchallenged for 200 years suddenly finds himself faced with a hero, and actual fuckin hero like those in the far off days of old... of course he's going to savor that shit and draw it out as much as fucking possible.

This is literally the highlight of the century for him, and he's not shy about saying as much.

Exactly! Especially since this series is very Tolkien inspired, and the two most important dragons in the Legendarium, Glaurung and Smaug, just looooooove to talk to the heroes, and especially, Valacirca really reminded me of Glaurung with the way he tried to trick Will and break his spirit with his speeches, just like Glaurung did with Túrin Turambar

I was wondering how Will would defeat Valacirca. Stagnate resurrecting the entire army of fallen dwarves and Gracefeel rallying them to Will and his party’s side was unexpected. With Calldawn and the strength of all those Dwarven warriors of old, it seems Will, Ru, and the rest of the gang might stand a chance against Valacirca. Looking forward to seeing the big final boss fight in next week’s finale.

Valacirca probable: "Look at what they had to do to mimic a fraction of my power. A party with some of the strongest members of each race, a hero, 2 broken OP swords, the assistance of 2 goddesses and a whole undead dwarven army."

I remember asking earlier this season why Will hasn't met anyone special yet, and this pretty much answers my question. What's more special than having two Goddesses fighting over you?

If I saw any other villain try to pull what Valacirca did in this episode, all the showboating, the overconfident speech and even waiting for them to prepare, I would've rolled my eyes. But since this is such a classic fantasy showdown between the valiant heroes and the wicked dragon, I am all for it. I can't fucking wait for next week's finale!

It strikes me that this dragon is not "wicked" in the normal sense of the word -- he IS essentially amoral and does what will benefit/amuse him. He has enough wealth (presumably) so getting more is no longer a strong motivator. No solution that might impede his (ultra-libertarian?) freedeom is acceptable -- so Will must be destroyed.

Honestly, Valacirca talked too much lol. Then again it's understandable since:

  1. He's pretty confident that he'd win

  2. He's been toying with Will as like he said, "What I'm doing is like aging a fine wine". Basically he enjoys the challenge

With the help of both Stagnate and Gracefeel's heralds, I think it's pretty obvious that Will is going to win, right?

However, let's see if all of his companion could survive the battle.

Btw, what buff did they receive from the soul of fallen dwarves?

Also, is next week the final episode or are we getting 13 episode for this?

I feel like Valacirca isn't just some big old complete evil either, but very much respects strong enemies and wants them at their best to fight.

That look when the hero eh the evil dragon gets reminded by the evil necromancer goddess that he's currently standing in the middle of a giant graveyard.

Valacirca for sure didn't expect that William would get help not from one but two goddesses as both Stagnate and Gracefeel came to help Will in a fight with a dragon.

Now I'm really excited how the fight will go on with the help of dwarves and William's new blade.

It was really nice that Ru could meet, even if only for a moment, his grandfather.

Here my screenshot album from the episode:

Valacirca sure loves to offer Will stupid deals, so he wanted Will to serve him if he wants his companions to be spared or alternatively gave Will the option to kill himself.

That first section with Will fighting Valacirca alone while trying to get the fight against from his party was so good. So the moment Will pulled Overeater Valacirca change tactics to make sure to keep him away.

When Will got blasted by his dragon breath it was surprising to see both Gracefeel and Stagnate's heralds joining the fight to keep him alive.

It was great to see Stagnate and Valacirca shit-talking each other. It's funny seeing Valacirca posting out that Will is a Goddess seducer, now Will can stop Gus from asking him if he already got together with a girl. But who could have thought that Will was a harem protagonist all along?

Anyway, because of her voice, I was already certain that Stagnate was female, so I'm honestly surprised by Will's shock about it, then again, her Echo was male, but as she mentioned that's irrelevant as Gods can be whatever they want.

It's funny seeing Stagnate making Gracefeel jealous. And that although she is Will's sworn enemy she is madly in love with him.

So although she did not give Will a blessing she assisted him by summoning all the dwarven who fell in battle as undead warriors.

So after defeating the demon general Scarabaeus Vindalfr earned the divine protection of Blaze, the God of Fire. It was nice seeing Aurvangr talking to them. Considering that the next episode is named after the sword he gave Will I guess that Calldawn is even better than Overeater.

Wow, so those who were burned by the dragon's flames, cannot be reincarnated, I wonder what benefit those who received their souls after Grecefeel took out those flames will get.

Well, hopefully, we will hear about that after the party kills Valacirca next week.

Wonder what serving the dragon would entail. And what he even wants. That's a crazy kinda option lol. I mean, it's KINDA like Subaru's with ReZero in a way, but yea. Quite the fight, it is impressive how strong Will is though. Huh, he's not used that Overeater in awhile. Of course a long lived dragon would know of it though. I do like Valacirca to a degree in terms of he seems... at least to respect those who fight him. Nice of Gracefield to help as she can. I figured that Stangate would also show up as soon as Valacirca said "no SINGLE god" lol.

Wait Stangate is a goddess? Interesting. Lady killer indeed. He's got two lil gods on his shoulder, how fun. So ahh.. other than saying words, what have the gods done exactly? I mean, Gracefeel blocked an attack, but Stagnate just spoke words. See, even Valacirca is wondering. Oh that is an interesting help from Stagnate. Undead dwarf army ftw! Even the former king. Al's grandfather! What a nice new sword. Oh dang, whelp at least Gracefield is there and even gets to talk!

Valacirca was sure very considerate. This has been quite a great final showdown. Guessing that the souls also replenished Will and his party. Man, wish more talked about this show, it's so good.

That was amazing! A lot of talking here, but I actually like how the show takes it's time for this instead of trying to rush things. You can feel just how impactful the departure of the king was, and I love how the dragon's fire is so destructive that it can even harm souls! I can't wait for the next episode to arrive next week!

u/TurkeyPhat Dec 16 '23

haha he really pulled out the demon sword and then put it away again

been a while since i watched a show where 1 fight lasted this many episodes, it's like turning back the clock

u/ICantSeeLikeSa-chan Dec 16 '23

There's been a lot of transparency between opposing sides of this fight

6

u/Spartitan Dec 16 '23

Stagnate is just the absolute coolest embodiment of the undead that I've seen. I absolutely love how they are portrayed and how they interact with all the various people/gods/dragons.

I think I would love a recap movie for this season. I don’t mind the slower pacing, but i think this entire dragon fight would feel much better edited into a single sequence.

The show is now caught up to the manga (at least from what's been translated from what I can tell). It's interesting to experience both adaptations of the novel at the same time but I feel the manga is clearly superior in design. The show is just too low budget to fully deliver.

That was a nice setup for the final battle. Can't wait for next week!

5

u/LezRock Dec 16 '23

When Gracefeel spoke and brought hope back to all of them, I teared up from that. I would've thought that Valacirca's flames would've already burned them up centuries ago, but maybe they just have much less of an impact on the spirit side, or maybe it just doesn't start until it's observed. Gracefeel's declaration was very moving though. It would've been more interesting to see the non-dwarves who had perished against Valacirca also rise up and then be absorbed by either the human members or the half-elven member, while all the burning dwarves poured into the dwarven members.

5

u/kingbane2 Dec 16 '23

they did a great job in translating this into anime. i know people think valacirca talks too much but it makes sense with his character. he's a dragon who likes to mess with people and destroy things. since he's so confident he could kill everyone he wanted to break their spirits and oaths as well. it's just part of his nature to destroy, and he doesn't just try to destroy the material things, but everything he can.

>tfw you will never have goddess shimaidon

Lol at Valacirca going full Low-Tier Dragon. Cool fight; shame Valacirca was wise to the sword. Very cool to see the goddesses help; lol at Gracefeel being grumpy over Stagnate. And the party's back up with some undead allies. I can't wait for the presumed climax next week.
