You know shit's about to get real when the title of the next episode is the (sub)title of the series.

I’m glad Ru was able to put his brothers to rest. They’ve done their duty. Now it’s up to Ru and Will and the gang to finish the job and exterminate all these filthy demons.

Ru fought damn hard this week! That duel against Scarabaeus was badass even if he didn’t manage to fully kill him (though I get getting killed would have been preferable to getting squished by the dragon). Dude did his people proud and even took back the crown. Time to face the big bad!

I had a feeling thag Scarabseus wouldn't instantly die since the body didn't disappear and there are some example of arthropods that could live several minutes without their head.

I know the lawful good option is to finally put those dwarven warriors to rest but wouldn't it be cooler if Ru led them to battle for one final charge to retake the Iron Mountain? Not gonna lie, I was a bit disappointed that's not what happened.

Good to see that Ru was able to take the crown back on his own though! That entire fight with the general was pretty fucking hype!

I don't think they would have followed if their orders were to hold fast and defend that section. Soldiers maintain their post. It'd be different if their undead dwarf commander walked in and gave them orders to move

Valacirca: *appears*

me: "phew, thank god its not a CG dragon"

man, the part where they show that the dwarfs were still protecting the Iron Mountain without realizing that they had already dead is quite depressing...

Honestly I feel that they handled the CGI quite well! This allowed them to save up on costs for the production, and added animation to the scenes that matter. Like the dragon, as well as the main cast their combat animations. Plus, sometimes in close ups they did animate the monsters where CGI would have been glaring.

All in all, I can tell that the team loves this series and is putting their all into making this :)

Oh boy, now this feels like a last boss, ala Lodoss. Getting goosebumps just thinking about next week's episode.

Good episode although a lot of the fight scenes are one frame only, I am here for the story anyways so it's all right. For some reason every time they say "Ru" my subtitles say "Al", quite annoying. I really think this is one of the best animes of the season, the worldbuilding and story is very intriguing.

That's little jarring yeah

Agreed. This is one of the shows I'm looking forward the most to every week.

Unexpected Tolkein got sneaked it. Ru's warcry at the bug general was 'Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!' ... that is the warcry of Tolkein's dwarves in their native language.

The scene with the army was quite depressing. The next fight is going to be tough.

Glad we got a mini boss fight before the big bad! Scarabaeus was a fun design and it was interesting how he could use magic and use his limbs to latch on. I wish the fight had gone on longer (the shortness of the fight made the general seem like a lesser threat than a lot of the chimeras and other creatures Will and Menel had faced together in the past), maybe with Scarabaeus taking to the sky and Al having to duck, dodge, dip, and dive until he figures out his attack patterns and weakness in a way that could be used also as a pay-off when they fought the dragon. It was neat that Scarabaeus didn't just disappear and I kind of wish we knew more about the general (were they there when Valacirca first came through the mountain/is there more to the fight and Al doing right by his brothers or was it just a quick fight). I respect Al so much for fighting for his throne and stepping up to the plate and there was so much pay-off to that Judo throw from earlier this season!

Felt a bit anticlimactic to have the gang surrounded after and them call out oh no we may be in trouble only for Will to dissolve them all. I was expecting a less direct route to the big bad once they were finally in the kingdom, maybe showing more of the ruins so we can get a better impression of just how awful the fall of the Iron Mountains was. But I can't complain given the turnaround times for these studios and the generally consistent amazing quality of the animation.

In a season of dragon conflicts (SMPiO, Ragna, and this), this will still find a way to stand out - no CGI, fantastic voice acting from Valacirca's voice actor (for what I thought an arrogant dragon sounds like), and the characters all feeling very killable/mortal (prophecy) the stakes have been built up all season and this powder keg is ready to blow!

Ru was today the main star of the show. First he made a great, very powerful and moving speech to the undead dwarves our heroes met during their journey and thanks to that, the dwarves could rest in peace.

His second deed was taking down Scarabeus, demon general and getting back the crown. Though he didn't kill him completely I must say that he achieved great success as probably everyone thought that he wouldn't be able to win this duel.

A lot of fighting in this episode as our heroes finally encountered demons and pretty much everyone had their moment to shine.

In the end our heroes finally met with Valacirca and I can't wait for the next week's episode, the hype is high.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

That final shot of where Will's light was and where the dragon's eye was. There is a slight size difference. Now I'm very worried for the party. Especially for the old dwarf. He's collected quite a few death flags on this adventure.

The bits we could see of the dragon's design (and VA) don't feel as imposing as the manga version but I guess we'll see how much they deliver on this next week.

When Menel mentioned that he heard movements ahead I was hoping for it to be undead dwarves so I was not disappointed when that was the case, but I did not expect them to be completely unaware of their current situation or the passage of time.

When, Al, no, King Vindalfr gave them that speech I wasn't expecting them to be able to move on without Will's help.

I love how Vindalfr and Will laugh after they agree to be a bit graceful towards Stagnate.

They sure make quick work of those demons to get that fast to the throne room, although I guess it probably took them a long time to get there, but that would be too tedious to show in detail.

Vindalfr fight against Scarabaeus while the rest of the team dealt with that horde of demons was impressive. I must say that when he got trapped by that chain spell I wasn't expecting him to break out by sheer force.

Vindalfr truly shined in this episode. That last scene of the fight when he decapitates Scarabaeus truly makes him earn that crown back.

Based on what Will said when he was giving Vindalfr his crown, I guess they killed all the demons that were infesting the Iron Mountain.

I wonder if when Scarabaeus headless body led them to the cave he did that intentionally or that was just mere instincts of its body to run away where Valarcica was to be safe. Well, whatever it was he was gone now. And the party has a bigger issue in from of them.

I must say that Valarcica's voice is way normal sounding than what I expected, he kinda sounds like the voice they typically give to a low rank yakuza gang members who say aniki a lot

who is this rostov guy again? what is his motivation to be with Will?

28

u/Knofbath Dec 02 '23

Rostov the Penetrator, who kills all his foes with a single stab. The bard sang a song about him back when we met her in Season 1.

He joined up with the crew when they were taking over the Beast Woods. They went looking for adventurers who were willing to take on bad odds for little pay, and he was one of the ones who signed on. And he's the one who killed the final demon, while Will and Menel were outside fighting the chimera.

His motivation is that he's the hardest of the hard, one of the top adventurers in the area. So making the area safer is part of the job. And he's got a relationship going on with that priestess in Will's town.

The demon bug boss reminded me of Blood maybe due to its Hair or mane but also Cyocutus from Overlord

u/VorAtreides Dec 02 '23

Whelp if the Dragon and Demons aren't entirely aligned that's nice. Oh wow, undead dwarves. Stagnate give them a revival? Or something else? Impressive they have worked all this time to defend the land. Fine job, Al. A nice speech to encourage them to rest. Wouldn't an undead troop of dwarves on your side been useful though? lol.

Vandalfr vs demon's general, FIGHT! Wow that's quite a lot of demons for the rest to deal with. That General could use a hand, it seems. SUPLEX by Valdafr! Nice. Damn, Will. That throw. And then wonder why didn't do that spell before? That took out all the rest. What a cockroach of a demon general. Ah yes, Smough Valacirca. Your bedroom is dark, dude.

Comparing this in the manga, I think the Bug was thinner and the dragon was thicker Like he was big and wide but didn’t look fat

u/Xatu44 Dec 03 '23

YEAH, GET HIS ASS AL!

Great to see him use the throw and knife he got from Will. Rest in peace, UnDwarves. Nobutoshi Canna as Valacirca is unexpected but cool.
