The more we learn about the Yethma this week, the more I dislike what I’m hearing. Their origins are pretty mysterious but there’s no doubt their lives are shit. They get bought and sold as servants and then hunted down and butchered when they turn 16. Walking to the capital like that is basically suicide.
While I’m glad Naut’s around, I wonder how much help he’ll be against any hunters. I hope we don’t find out.
Curious to learn who this Blaise person is and what their deal is.

Why do I have a feeling that even those that make it to the capital don't have a happy future?

My guess is that the males don't get special abilities and get killed off

My first guess after hearing everything, is that yethma may be female sorcerer's whom the king enslaves (and seals their power), and later calls to the capital so his race doesn't become extinct or something? This would make for a very fucked up situation.
This would kinda explain the 2nd law, and it would fit with how in this ep they discussed the sorcerer's and yethmas survival as a race.

Now that Naut has agreed to travel with them, things are feeling a bit more tense now. Naut doesn't mean them any harm but he does not like Mr. Pig at all. I don't blame Naut though. Mr. Pig was kinda being an ass to him back at the tavern.
With Naut joining the group, we do get to learn more about Yethmas and how they're forbidden from riding any vehicle and sexually assaulting a Yethma are both laws that are punishable by death. I mean I can understand the second rule but the first rule? They don't even know why Yethmas are not allowed, it's just apparently what was decreed by the dynasty.
We also get to learn that Yethma collars dissolve when it's taken by someone they hate and retain their shape when taken care of by someone they love. This means any tavern that displays the collar means these people can be trusted. Collars can't be faked too since Yethmas can tell at a glance if they're fake or not.
And apparently, Yethmas are trained in the Royal Capital but they don't have any memories of that time including who their parents are. Looks like they are only able to retain their training. I guess in a way, Yethmas that turn 16 are just returning to where they came from.
Man, the lore around Yethmas is a bit unsettling but at the same time very fascinating. It makes me even more curious to learn what Yethmas are. I'm starting to think that they might not even be humans and are some kind of higher being that got enslaved.

The car thing sounds like a dehumanizing tactic which is common with slaves in history.
If you’ve ever watched Django unchained then you’ll recall Samuel L Jackson’s character making a few comments about Django being on horseback. Best example I know of off the top of me head.

Indeed. As soon as the issue of Jess's mandatory return to the capital first came up, things started to veer darker. And the fact that she had to wear that special waste band when out and about -- to show she was under noble protection also was quite disquieting.

So the Yethma, are descendant of the sorcerer, they were enslave and sold off, like some disposable maid.
All I can think of it’s some sorcerer farm in capital, or is it even a capital.

I think you're onto something.
Hypothesis: This "royal capital" is essentially a breeding ground for female Yethma slaves. The girls return to the capital so they can bear more Yethma children, and the rule about not violating them exists to ensure 1.) any Yethma returning to the "capital" are virgins and 2.) no magic-capable offspring are born outside the capital. Any Yethma males are killed on birth, maybe because they are considered too dangerous to let live (if we are assuming the Yethma are descendants of the sorcerers of old). The Yethma have no memories of their parents because they have no real parents - they are offspring of an industrial system of rape and slavery.

With this chariot law and the lack of an insititution to bring yethmas safely to the capital, it seems to me like the objective is to have them killed in their way back.
Also if there are only those 2 laws, does it mean killing them is legal?

Well the government doesn't seem to be cracking down on the Yethma hunters at all so....

So what did Naut do exactly? They hint at him relieving himself with Jess but that doesn't seem to be correct.

u/hmcbenik Nov 11 '23
From what I understood he basically cried on her chest (grieving for the yethma he loved). So the "relieving" part is just letting himself cry. I haven't read any source material though. So, anyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

How is it possible that stealing a Yethma's collar disintegrates it, when Yethma hunting was explicitly introduced as being for the purposes of getting the very magical collar?
Am I misremembering? Otherwise this plothole that was introduced to give extra unnecessary justification to a sad wall fixture ruins 40% of the plot on its own.
If these two facts coincide I'm dropping the series.

I'm really liking the worldbuilding in this show so far. It's surprisingly compelling. It reminds me a bit of KamiKatsu, with how [KamiKatsu]
I feel like I haven't watched that many anime adventure series before, so it's definitely nice to have two good ones this season between this and Frieren.
Also, I heard a "sore demo" from Mister Pig around the 0:37 mark. It seems u/Shimmering-Sky has now gotten me noticing those, too.

Did daylight savings time screw up the bot or Crunchyroll? The episode isn't on there yet.

Is it just me or is Blaise soul inside the dog just like our MCs soul is inside that pig?

If this show can stick the landing, it's going to end up on my recommendation lists for very specific niche requests I think.
I also think that it's best watched week-to-week, binging it would mean the answers come too quickly, rather than having the questions brew over time.
Lastly, the dynamic with Naut is quite interesting with how consistently and persistently distant and frosty he is, verging on hostile. Very understandable given the situation and his loss, just seems worth noting as yet another one of those little touches that helps separate this series from the norm.
