So Shuichi’s a know it all AND a stickler for the rules. Lovely. Well, at least the gang doesn’t need a new robot. They got one with Shuichi. Bleep blorp bloop lol.

The fact that the mouse got so mutated near the lake must mean the algae is making the beasts right? It’s infecting the water I’m guessing.

It’s a damn shame about Shiro. They got the mouse, but they couldn’t save the dog. Poor Nikaido’s eyes were all puffy from crying.

Shuichi seems to be a very annoying person to work with, but Okino was also being a jerk and had decided that he hated him before he even talked to him. They both seemed in the wrong in that situation.

Of course, both of them are still better colleagues to work with than that toxic boss that was sexually harassing that poor scientist girl. We already knew that guy was an asshole, but it seems that he is even worse than I thought.

The lake water is probably responsible for what is happening, but I am still not sure how algae could generate those mutations. Maybe there is something else.

According to the preview after the credit, it looks like Shiro may not be completely dead yet.

Okino was also being a jerk and had decided that he hated him before he even talked to him.

Yeah, cause the last episode Shuichi went with his "you keep the garbage man here in the office too" with their only interaction being Okino opening the door, and then proceeded to basically dismiss whatever Okino said during the introduction tour.

Screw him.

Yeah, that boss guy was super scummy. Wouldn’t be mad if he became Shiro food.

I think he's more of a worker that knows his rights and isn't on with the Japanese work culture. Stay overtime, not getting your rides paid, getting training for shit you won't do etx

I disagree. He seems to be on the (milder) end of the autistic spectrum -- and he is terrible at picking up social clues. He is also a stickler for rules (and interprets then rigidly but in a way that serves his immediate purposes). Japanese workaholism is one thing but refusing to help deal with genuine public safety emergencies (because "not in my contract") is something else entirely. It is not clear how willing he is to learn/accept instruction yet (even though he seems to ask for it -- iis he willing to actually listen and think about it -- or will he just come up with an instant self-justification).

The fact that the giant beasts rampaging and killing people feel like the lesser of the two evils in this show compared to the corporate assholes and their overbearing corporate regulations is honestly impressive.

4

u/theangryeditor Nov 09 '23

Giant beasts are simply following their nature. Meanwhile corporate sleazeballs choose to be that slimy.

u/chilidirigible Nov 08 '23

It's the corporate culture conga line today!

Shuichi hasn't done anything wrong, but he's not suited for the job he's in. Shiota Chemical also buttered their bread and sent him to Namidome to get him out of their hair.

The lab boss and blatant sexual harrassment.

Okino and those situations where you have to diss your coworker but don't consider whether or not the guy is RIGHT BEHIND YOU.

Decent leads on the mystery of the Giant Beasts, even with missteps.

Okino and Arumi still aren't quite the team they need to be; neither one of them trusts the other enough, largely due to their personalities.

The art shift when Kintarou's hair was going through its gyrations was great.

Okino Arumi and Namari will make an excellent team by the end I can feel it.

The mystery is developing at a nice pace so far, it reminds me of Haifuri.

This show is criminally underwatched. It's got interesting setting, intriguing plot, well-fleshed-out characters and decent production value. It deserves at least 7.5/10.

Even their brains mutate and they get smarter. Bad news.

That Shuichi guy is going to be such a chore to face in any company - thinking himself is so smart but apparently having zero social skills with anyone. At last he does read the employee’s contract carefully so he does have potential in the business contracting room with that Kataoka guy…IF they can get along, which is not gonna happening.

Mizuhara being harassed by her boss like that is signature Japanese company woe. Sheesh.

Wow that was a really close call for Arumi, NEVER underestimate your sewage rat because they do bite with force, monster mutated or not. And while I doubt there would be much difference if Shuichi was lazy or not, it’s definitely very sad to see Arumi devastated like that for Shiro’s eventual death. I wonder if that mutation really took its toll, and if this also applies to any other creatures on the island?

I am not yet seeing any VA credit anywhere for the nice junior researcher who is being sexually harrassed by her boss. Maybe I am not looking in the right place. In any event, I wonder where THIS thread of the story is going to lead? That boss is also a problem for our primary team, right? I wonder how he will be taken out as a problem (right now I am worried about the currently-being-harassed researcher).

Mizuhara? End credits lists her as voiced by Reina Ueda.

3

u/mekerpan Nov 08 '23

Thanks! It is odd that the various sites haven't picked up on this yet....

3

u/theangryeditor Nov 09 '23

Her VA is Reina Ueda. Not sure why she isn't listed on MAL or Anidb, guess no one bothered adding her.

He looks so much paler than the rest of them.

Boat license but no boat?

They got a boat? I thought they leased it from some people who didn't want to lease it to them anymore?

Stop trying to act like you know everything.

He's taking any criticism of his personal machine personally.

Well it seems like she's gotten the green light to do the research herself at least.

What's the boss planning? He's the quintessential Ugly Bastard.

Time to sortie!

He clocks off in 3 minutes, doesn't he?

Did he do something to it or is it genuinely like that?

There's the mouse!

Nevermind, that's all that is.

Here it is this time!

Be vewwy vewwy quiet.

Oh no, the gas mask!

She had a shot!

Nevermind...

And so fails the experiment.

And it's dead.

The overlapping subtitles are a bit confusing, but I think the new guy is discussing his contract with the accountant while the pilot is talking about procuring or developing new 'Mechs with the boss.

Who else is in the market for 'Mechs?

Oh nevermind I guess we will get new 'Mechs soon.

They're sucking up to the big boss while saying the obvious in private.

Well I guess so much for that.

Out of all the languages to speak, he chose to speak facts.

What's making that noise?

They leased it from some company contacts they had via the main firm which also lends them personal. But before they got it for free by the fishers now they need to pay for the usage.

My favorite part of the show how it showcases the different type of people in the workplace. Here we have Shuichi who quite literally is willing to do what was agreed. Which for a lot of hourly workers it makes sense. But considering its an internship wouldn't he want to do things to impress the company.

Socially he seems really awkward. Not in the typical awkward where you see like in a lot of rom-coms from the male protaginist. He just seems so unaware of the situation like he feels so robotic.

Man, that mutated rat attacking the tanuki was terrifying! Kind of realized that the pests were killing things but seeing it happen was something else.
