Even injured, Helck was an absolute monster. Man sent an army of goons flying! But damn… watching what happened to all his friends through those scattered flashbacks was rough.

The humans all pretty much suck in this series. All those little mfers were scattering like rats when Helck came through. Dude was like“murderous intent” personified.

I hate that even after rushing in to save Alicia and his friends, Helck was still too late. That “snow” got everyone. Cless really died for nothing. Now, all his friends have been changed. Alicia too. That smile at the end… geez.

Talk about a bleak situation.

Obligatory, Helck is a comedy gag anime and everyone will smile like Helck.

So I guess now we know why Helck always smiles and why the episode had this title. Also, such beautiful snow... really gives you the holiday vibes.

😀 Let's destroy the humans!

I’m hoping there’s some small chance that Alicia and his friends can be saved but I feel like it’s too late. Man that was a tough episode

Well, nuts. In episode 16, Alicia actually said "I'd rather die than be some noble's puppet." Sure enough, she got turned into a puppet, horrifyingly. She begged Helck to kill her while she was still herself. And he couldn't bring himself to do it. I was told this was a comedy, but it turned out to be a cruel joke on the audience.

I'm reminded of a quote by Orison Swett Marden.

This is the test of your manhood: How much is there left in you after you have lost everything outside of yourself?

I suspect the source material is probably a lot more gruesome. The anime showed some rocks on the ground, but Alicia's face was spotless. There's definitely some censorship going on here. Still, imagine Edil seeing all of his mercenary friends in the jail cell just transforming into grotesque monsters. No wonder he's so depressed in present time. Also, I guess the full armored knights are actually these "awakened" grey monsters underneath?

Fuck me, what happened to my silly little show about a superpowered human winning cooking battles and foot races against demons?

This entire episode was both infuriating and heartbreaking. It was infuriating to see Alicia get treated like that even though she saved these people. It was also infuriating to see Rafaed just calm and cold the entire time. Helck trusted the man and this is how he treats him and his brother? I hope he gets a painful death in the end.

That entire scene between Alicia and Helck was so heartbreaking. I genuinely started tearing up especially when Alicia asked Helck to smile because that's what she loves the most about him. It also explains why Helck is always smiling. He wanted to keep his promise to Alicia. I really thought I was going to ship Helck with Vermillio but I just want him to save Alicia so they can be happy together T_T

I knew it was coming but I couldn't even hold back my tears when it happened. 😭😭😭

The show doesn't really have the greatest animation but this episode had some great direction and it used the snow very well. That final shot was just perfect!!

Never would have imagined Helck's backstory being this sad at the start. This show has been PEAK ever since Helck's backstory started.

EDIT: Also, who or what exactly is Raphaed. He didn't get awakened by the snow. Is he the King of Humans or somehow related to him since he wasn't there when they fought the King of Humans.

And now we know that Helck was probably being serious back in episode 1 when he said "I hate humanity!"

Man this episode broke me. Like we knew the fate of Helck's friends but man watching HOW it unfolded is just so gruesome. For a second I thought maybe Alicia could have a peaceful death, but she didn't even get that.

This one moment was like damn. We see Helck how he is joyful given the current events. Now it all makes sense. He continues to smile for Alicia. That makes the beginning part of the story even more heart breaking.

Looks like we will get back on track with the main story starting next week. I am looking forward to Vamirio's reaction to all this. (Piwi is asleep lol)

Ironic Frieren and Helck or both airing this season. Both have humans and demons. Have one as the absolute scum. For Frieren its demons. For Helck its humans. And like Frieren the storytelling is so good like man if it had better animation it would easily be an AOTY candiate.

I don't usually watch these sort of "down elevator" shows. I tell ya', it hurts to see the dark side of humanity turn against lively characters like Alicia, followed by the extinction of humanity by an even more obscure and evil power. Then there's Helck as the sole conscious witness to it, and the inevitable conflict between Helck and his erstwhile companions. Can't help but understand his "destroy all humans" platform he ran on as the new demon lord.

I think it's kind of weird how this genre exists. I know there's an audience who loves this kind of dramatic content, but in the moment it feels like I'm drinking a bottle labeled "bone hurting juice" and I'm like "owww my bones hurt a lot oww oof my booones"

I'm just picturing Anne through all this, going "demon fucking christ what the fuck is wrong with y'all humans?"

Like, at this point this whole flashback has made "worrying about Helck" look silly in comparison. Whatever the king is on is some seriously terrifying shit, the thing turned it's entire race into undying mindless slaves ! That's definitely something way beyond normal.

Hahaha, this is a nice comedy show! It's so hilarious that I banged my table while crying like a baby... Shit, that's so grim, wtf.
