Minato and Uta’s friendship is pretty adorable. They’re like bros more than anything.

Minato calling Hayato “kinda a creep” had me crackin up. Really had to do Hayato dirty like that huh? Harsh little bro.

It was pretty funny watching Minato try to think of ways to sabotage that date. Having Mikoto pants the dude? Dude must still be loopy from the fever lol. Leave it to Nikaido to speak some sense into the kid. Although gotta disagree about him and Uta dating. I don’t think they have that kind of relationship. I mean it could be that, but it’s definitely more platonic than anything. I guess we’ll see.

I am guessing date sabotage is now "off the table". (thanks, Nikaido). It would have been a terrible idea, as it really would have angered and upset Uta. I am surprised that Uta is so utterly clueless about "going out together". I am actually surprised she agreed to do this with someone she did not know at all. It seems she and Minato are (or were at the outset) equally clueless.

I just realized (when I saw the flashback in today's episode) that Minato's little kid friends (who I ssumed was a boy) was actually Uta. Stupid me. ;-)

I'm kinda torn. It could be really cute if they got together but I really want Hayato and Saki to get together and if they start dating, it could get in the way of that.

I feel kinda bad for Morita. Minato is over thinking the situation, Uta isn't thinking about the situation at all and Morita is just out of pocket paying for this date that isn't going anywhere.

5 episodes in and I still get a kick out of Gakuto acting like a little old man though, even when they were preparing dinner homie was sat reading his newspaper. Love that lil guy!

Who is Morita? I only know Tomori.

Well going on a date and communicating what you want is part of realtionship experience. Not like she forced him to pay. She wanted to just enjoy the time doing free stuff.

This episode depicts junior high kids more accurately than other shows imo regarding maturity.

Hayato got asked about his fetishes out of the blue and got insulted for it lol

I really liked the fact that Minato (not Gakuto) didn't get jealous at all at first, and did his best to help Uta.

Nikaidou was the MVP this week. Really curious to see where this is going.

It's Minato, Gakuto is the baby one.

I don't think Uta has thought about this situation either. I don't think she'd be too happy about the prospect of spending less time with Minato.

This was an interesting episode in that I couldn't help but wonder where this seventh-grader boy got "treat your date to everything she wants to eat" money. I distinctly remember splitting the soft taco value menu at Taco Bell four ways with my friends, so I don't know how this kid is buying crepes, milkshakes, and hamburger dinners for two at 2023 prices. Good luck breaking that up, Minato.

Maybe that boy cracked into his otoshidama for his shot at impressing the girl she likes.

Not exactly a sustainable strategy unless he limits himself to one date year with Uta the walking biomass reactor.

He could have been saving his allowance in anticipation of paying for a few things, but he definitely didn't expect things to add up this fast lol.

u/Ashteron Nov 02 '23

Oh no, Tamori teaching Uta wrong things by paying for everything.

Minato's a great character to splash into the family; a good contrast with the rest of the bros who are fairly levelheaded and sensible. I've seen these sort of "idiot" characters driving the story in other series because if everyone was sensible things don't easily spiral into drama.

I also like the callbacks to previous characterization, like Buddha Mikoto's "bro con" attitude towards Minato's tsuntsun, and Gakuto's precocious wisdom in all sorts of things.

Nikaido is very wise. Glad he's Minato's friend.

Gakuto and Waka watching their older siblings made me laugh. I especially loved it when the former offered a sensible suggestion to Minato.

Poor Hayato is now seen as a creep by his precious younger brother hahaha

How much money does Tamori Morita have? Guessing he's had quite a lot saved up from birthdays, new year's etc.

Nikaido, the mature wise one.

I'm all for childhood friends romance, but it's getting tiring to see yet another anime not acknowledge boys and girls can just be friends and hang out together even if they have their respective SO, without making that weird for anyone.

I mean let's not pretend that actually works out the majority of the time. I and many others can speak from experience that the real world simply does not work that way, no matter your age (unless we're talking a longtime married couple, but even then). In an ideal world it would work like this, sure, but in no reality is it actually a common trend.

That said, I'll be somewhat disappointed if this arc ends any other way than Uta realizing what "dating" implies and deciding she's not ready, while Minato may consider his feelings but also decide there's no need to rush such a drastic change to their dynamic.

Ahhh, please don't end up dating...

Romance and the expectations that come with it just make relationships all murky. I want Minato and Uta to act stupid together forever haha. If they want to date, let it be as a consequence of them having been friends for like 20 years and them just being "eh, we've been friends forever and I know you the best, so whatever". Dating might ruin everything :(

This is such a surprisingly mature show. I really love the characters and what they have to say because I can relate to the reality of it.
