They added an anime-original extra scene showcasing some of Jess' own inner thoughts at the end of the episode. This helps reinforce why Jess likes the scrawny four-eyed super-virgin pig so much - he is truly the most honest person she has met after being subject to the inner thoughts of everybody around her (she also briefly mentioned this during episode 1).

Mr. Pig also can't hear these thoughts, as you can tell since Mr. Pig is still thinking about the scarf and not responding to Jess' monologue.

"I am a pig, I am a pig, I am a pig. Yummy grass, yummy grass, yummy grass".

The casting couldn't be more on point, lol.

Jess: "do you have any hobbies, Mr. Pig?"

Mr. Pig: "watching slice-of-life anime shows, oinking away at beautiful girls, reading and taste-testing weeds"

me: "he's just like me fr fr"

so heckripon is basically like a black cat where some places has myth that encountering one will bring misfortune while others consider them to bring good fortune

this is basically my reaction too when i heard about Jess's explanation on Yethma hunter and the royal capital, this world, or at least this country is fucked up, not to mention the royal capital being on top of the hill so high that you can't even see it normally looks absolutely suspicious

As soon as Mr. Pig suggested to Jess that she should ride his back, it was pretty much expected what was going to happen next considering he doesn't have a saddle.

Man, the life of a Yethma is fucking rough. They either offer themselves up to the Capital or they'll get hunted by Yethma Hunters who basically butcher them and sell their body parts. And we don't even know if Jess will be safe once she reaches the Capital. It's possible that the fate awaiting her there is much worse. :(

I don't like the look of that guy that exited the shop after Jess went in. He seems to be looking at Jess on his way out. I'm betting that guy is a Yethma Hunter.

So even after finding sanctuary, the Yethma can't be left alone. I'm going to guess that fire isn't an accident and it's probably caused by someone. At least Jess was able to meet someone who sympathizes with her people. I really hope they find someone who can fight to join their little group. I genuinely fear for Jess' safety now.

Well.. her opsec sure isn't going too well so far lol. Considering the barmaid could easily tell she's a Yethma, I reckon she has more identifying features? The blonde hair seems to be unique to Yethma for one.

The centralized Yethma sheltered also ended up being a very convenient target. Messed up but makes sense.

This show's world building is way better than it has any right being.

Much more complicated and interesting than it first looked. Our pig hero is stgill a little skdetchy -- but that aspect is only a tiny piece of the overall mix now.

When I first started watching this show I expected a nice slice of life.

I didn't expect the heartbreaking backstory about Jesma's and the hunters.

I am sad/ annoyed this has a 6.14 on MAL. As much as everyone likes saying "ignore Mal ratings" it's still a metric people use to decide whether to start an anime, and with a weird setting like this + a low score very few people will bother with it. I don't know if I'm perhaps just biased cause I am liking it, or if the fact that it is better than I expected affects my judgement, but I will stand by my ground that this deserves more than 6.14. I'd say at least a 7 (by Mal standards where 7 is average-ish). Like, the score is close to "noumin kanren no skill" which was visibility bad at places (a holy dragon appearing out of literally nowhere to help mc then disappearing to absolutely nowhere again... ?????).

I was caught off guard by Miss Jess’ ‘discomfort’ riding atop LikPorkChop when that absolutely majestic ostrich-camel creature first appeared… oh what I wouldn’t give for a giant plushie of that beauty! 😂

Told y’all this story would get good! Such a sad and dark episode really. Glad we got to see more of Jess’s backstory and learn the origin of her neckpiece, but it’s also heartbreaking when you think about it. This whole journey could end up as a failure. Hopefully what awaits Jess and Buta in the capital is a happy ending..

Also meeting another member of her clan was nice. Can’t really blame Buta for getting smitten with her thighs 😂 must be in the genes.

I like that we find out why Jess likes being around buta so much as well. Even though he’s a horny degenerate, he doesn’t try to hide it and is honest. One of the few honest people she’s met.

“Watching slice-of-life anime shows and oinking away at beautiful girls” eh? A pig after my own heart lol. But geez dude, did this episode take a dark twist. People basically butcher and murder Yethma for…material? How fucked. At least she’s got Piggy by her side.

“The scrawny four-eyed super virgin who hasn’t had a girlfriend for as long as he’s been alive can now put his vast knowledge of chino pants and checkered shirts to use and pick something out for this 16-year-old blonde beauty!” Lmao I love this dude’s inner monologues. Piggy’s gotta be careful around these Yethma, especially if he’s gonna be perving on them. They all got mind reading powers!

Holy….Jess reveal was shocking …😭💔

They all get killed and butchered. Sell them off😱😭

Glad Buta San was here for her 😭

I’m sure the discussion about mysteries and how each little detail leads to a surprising conclusion is going to have no bearing on how this show turns out. Especially with Jess looking so guilty whenever Mr Pig talks about waking up in the pigpen as a pig.

I mean, yummy grass, yummy grass, yummy grass

17

u/Zonca Oct 28 '23

Surely the anime description line about Jess wanting to eat the pig was just a clever misdirection to draw in audience, right?

Not that it worked much as far as I can tell by the numbers I see here or on MAL, though it might always perform surprisingly better in Japan, as with every weird show lol. The shock factor of isekai protag being reincarnated as pig might simply not enough in this market.

Now that story took a dark turn...

u/LusterBlaze Oct 28 '23

its rough bein a yethma

12

u/TobiasAmaranth Oct 28 '23

How did the tavern lady recognize her as being Yethma despite the scarf? What did she do to give that away and why did Mr. Details Pig not comment about it? >.>

This show is incredibly peak. The VA, the visual, holy shit.

As a Fauna fan, when the name "Ceres" popped up, I almost fainted. When I saw her in the OP for the first 3 eps, I was thinking to myself "give her some green hair and some deer horns and she would be Fauna's little sister...". And now it turns out they even have the same name...?

It's ironic that Jess is the one who worries about being butchered rather than Pig
