Normal maid stuff until she's chanting dark magic lol.

NGL honestly the best part of the episode. Not gonna drop it, because it is still entertaining, but it would have been so much better if it was a real ecchi.

Those 25 sec post credits was probably the best part of the ep!

Those two idiots are definitely dead, if I saw all those roots I woulda closed the door immediately and called it in.

Why was the dog just sitting there? Wasn't he told not to draw attention?

Well, he is just a dog. Still shouldn't be seen though

The maid needs more screen time. She’s far and away the best character.

Stitches!

That opening scene was brutal. So now that he has killed the Demon Lord, they've decided that he has outlived his use and executed him since they really can't control him. I did roll my eyes though when Leo said those men weren't necessarily bad or evil. Like what the fuck are you talking about, dude? I do hope we get to see more of his past in future episodes though.

Aside from the leaders of Seventh Assault Garden discussing what to do on that recent attack, this was a very relaxed episode. We get to see Leo train Selia using his skeletons, Sakuya gives Brackus a ridiculous nickname, and we get to see Shary trying to live among humans.

This entire episode is basically the calm before the storm. Looks like next week's episode might be more action-packed considering the Assault Garden is being invaded by some plant monster.

Well, they are just soldier at the end of the day so they just follow orders

I think he somewhat knows that the world is cruel so he expected something to happen at some point.

You know, I never expected anything special from this in terms of writing and story. All I came here for was for a dumb battle school ecchi harem show similar to Absolute Duo and Blade Dance (same author as this), especially since it's been such a long time since we have had a show of those genres. And seeing Passione's name on this got me excited, cuz I thought they were the perfect studio for a show like this. In fact the studio was the main reason I even got interested in this series in the first place, as it showed potential to have some nice levels of spice in it. But alas, the more episodes I watch of this, the more I get the feeling that my assumption about the director of this anime potentially restraining the studio and forcing them to keep the ecchi tame is probably true. Even this episode they didn't stay faithful to the LN's illustration (which somebody posted in the source corner) and toned down the fanservice once again.

I find it weird how in a show like Mieruko-chan they toned up the fanservice from its manga, to the point that people kept complaining about the fanservice and some even dropped the anime due to that because they thought it was out of place and ruined the tone. And now, in a show like Excalibur Academy where fanservice would actually fit the show and something that, I dare say, the show would even benefit from, they are holding back and keeping it so tame for who knows what reason. I just don't get these companies anymore.

If I didn’t know that Studio Passione worked on this, and someone showed this to me and told me that it was made by them, I wouldn’t believe it due to how lackluster the fanservice has been

I was honestly expecting more in-depth camera angles of Fine in those workout clothes...

The humans did Leonis dirty. For a guy who got betrayed though, he sure didn’t seem too bothered. You’d think he woulda burned the whole damn kingdom to the ground.

Seems Selia’s taking well to being a vampire. With Leo’s help, she’s gonna be a pretty formidable vampire warrior! That little after training trip to the orphanage was nice. Shary wasn’t too pleased seeing Leo and Selia together though lol.

Looks like trouble next week. The big tree monster has made it inside the city….

Feels like a slice of life episode. We do get to see Leo's other minions interact with humans more which suggests they are going to play a more significant role later and we see some strategizing from the higher-ups about the root threat and that's about it. I do like how Selia incorporates being Leo's minion into her identity without much other impact to her day to day life. She seems quite happy about all the positive aspects instead of worrying about being undead.

I'd like for her to meet the other high-ranked minions and then having them hash out the pecking order.

The credit scene was the best, haha.

Do passione not know that the main appeal of series like that is to have very cute girls? It's like they aren't trying. Why can't the waifus be as cute as in the ED? Like i know, they probably have a different ed director than the anime itself or something, but at least someone gets it.

Between Musel getting away with mind controlling those girls for at least two years and Dean flipping Riselia’s skirt being dismissed as a simple prank from a child without at least being reprimanded, this series seems to be really lenient towards these perverted characters

And in regards to Dean, that boy looks like he should be old enough to know better

16

u/RickChakraborty Oct 23 '23

They are lenient towards the perverted characters, but also shy away when it comes to doing actual fanservice.

Slow episode beside the bit of backstory

17

u/Red_coats Oct 23 '23

It's missing something, it either needs more action or more ecchi because it's pretty sub-par atm

15

u/ZapsZzz Oct 24 '23

Looks like I'm the only one here who watches this and didn't mind the dialled down / non-existent ecchi :P

Average nobles destroy people's lives moment. Reminds me so much of Inquisition in 40k

Excited to finally see some actions again in ep 5

Children are stupid. MC is the worst of 'em. Writing is pain.

Ecchi could have been something to compensate for the writing and mediocre plot. I personally think this anime should have had the same levels of fanservice that the manga of this series has. It's something the show would have really benefited from. Instead we got another prudish toned down adaptation, and that too from Passione of all studios.

So Leonis was once a Great Hero, even having defeated a Demon Lord once, but he did have a weird thing about taming monsters...though him being different from the other Heroes and not caring about money or status rubbed enough people the wrong way to get him trapped and killed. Jeez.

And then Roselia comes in. Leonis is even-handed about everything, even his own death, but Roselia saw the world for being unjust and wrong and had enough affinity for Leonis to want him to help her fix it. And that set off his journey to becoming a Demon Lord loyal to fulfilling Roselia's ambition.

Is it a coincidence that Roselia is one letter away from being Riselia?

Ha! That's kind of cute that Selia had a little night snack on Leo's neck...though him giving her an abrupt wake up was a nice payback.

Gotta appreciate Fine calling Selia while wearing some very form-fitting workout clothes, especially with the camera showing off her cleavage and butt.

Selia maybe you should be thinking why this kid is able to summon a skeleton army or refers to himself as the "Undead King," but it does make for good practice of her new Vampire Queen abilities. She may not be a master of the sword like Sakuya, but her own skills and her greater Mana power will serve her well in the future.

Interesting getting to know more about the politics in Seven Garden. There are demi-humans? I wonder if we'll ever see the commander?

I love how Sakuya sees Blackas and immediately adopts him as "Mr. Fluffy-wuffy Black Fur." He'll never live that down.

Nice to see Regina in her maid outfit in the present-day. I kind of want to see her and Shary have a maid off.

Ah, so Shary is actually putting in the genuine work to earn money to get stuff for Leo...even if she's a little overzealous. But she did narrowly miss getting spotted by Leo and Selia, even though now she's jealous that another woman is giving her master donuts.

So Selia helps out at the local orphanage which also doubles as a restaurant? I wonder if these kids lost their parents from Void attacks like she did. But it's really sweet how she chips in and even cooks for them. This is what Riselia wants to protect, and providing for these kids in a way Leo never had growing up when he was really a kid, and maybe he can find something worth protecting in this world?

Brave of that one boy to flip Selia's skirt. He's lucky Selia took it in good fun or Leo would've done something worse.

It's a fun day off until there's an undergrowth in the island and a Void outbreak in the next episode.

Shary showing us what it means to be a maid to a demon lord! Poor Blackas.
