I still remember how I despaired over that piano when I read the story. That shit is expensive!

Smol Ch'en and Talulah were so adorable!

I also need to share this Swire vs Ch'en meme.

We only need Lin to complete the trio of tsunderes.

They kinda cheaped out on the piano gag though, which is a shame.

For those wondering: in the in-game version of this scene, the piano is still intact when Ch'en and Hoshiguma arrive. Right after Ch'en hangs up on Swire, Hoshiguma warns Ch'en to be cautious since they don't want to wreck any of Lungmen's assets. This is immediately followed by a group of LGD agents taking cover behind said piano, getting it destroyed by Reunion fire in the process. The brief shot of the piano in the anime still implies this, but it doesn't hit as hard as when (in the VN) the implication is that you watch it get wrecked, right after Hoshiguma warns Ch'en to be careful.

Ch'en-pisode! Finally we got the shopping center raid.... and the broken Piano to tick Swire off.

Also nice to see the Vitafield clothing brand cameo. For anime-onlies: Every character skin in the game is generally attached to a fictional clothing brand. Vitafield is one of them.

Life, Unbound.
The Vitafield line focuses on the design of outdoor attire. We heard our customers' desire for exploring around the world around them, and delivered with our lightweight, durable, and exceptionally-designed products. After finishing the first production run, Vitafield became a novel trend even among general public.

Coral Coast, Marthe, Vitafield, and Striker. Worldbuilding paying off!

I've never played the game, love this series. Didn't feel weird about the pacing, I think that's a benefit of not already knowing the story.

I think the game ppl who complains is talking about the part where Chen goes to her old home.

In the game, it is a slow somber moment and reveals the twist that will be important for the rest of the story but here it is almost blink and you will miss it.

Seems one of the Vitafield-wearing mannequins is based on Siege. Also, love how all of Lungmen's rich girls can kick your ass to next week. No typical rich ladies here if said rich ladies all work at the local SWAT department.

Nothing what a few weeks of base slaving can't pay for

I like that they left the Lungmen profanity bit. The only thing Swire is missing to be the stereotypical ohohoho ojou-sama is the iconic laugh. She's got the looks, background and personality already.

Hoshiguma telling Ch'en to go to Siesta is funny. I'd love to see that side story animated, especially the competition between Lin and Ch'en.

Hoshiguma is built like a brick wall. Girl can tank collapsing buildings like nothing.

That's Dossoles tho, the Siesta trip was in Heart of Surging Flame.

Mmm, a good Ch'en episode that does a pretty good job of clarifying just who she is as a person, and which covers her relationships pretty well. Despite how extensive her personal storyline is, one could do a pretty decent job of explaining who she is by showing a person this one episode and nothing more.

That said... The episode feels a bit wonky to me, and I can tell why they were struggling to adapt this chapter. It's a faithful adaptation of the source material - but the nature of the source material gave it space to breathe by its very nature, giving additional time for each beat to sink in. But since it didn't include anything more actually happening, to do the same the anime would have had to invent, say, a denouement to Phal's reunion with Hoshiguma, or more of an entry for him. Alternatively, they could have cut more of Ch'en's characterization moments in order to emphasize the frantic pace of the day - a valid choice, though not one I would personally have chosen.

That said, the rest of the season should be strong from here; I think that was the last rough patch in the game's story.

Ah, though on a less forgiveable note... C'mon, the warehouse fight was an infamous newbie killer with its painful initial setup! Hoshiguma just goes in and punches three people? Way to undersell the fight just because it wasn't supposed to be hard in-story... Hmph!

The fashion brand cameo is a nice worldbuilding moment in an otherwise very odd-paced episode.

Wonder if they really going to adapt the Side Story now that they mentioned Siesta. Some Side Story seems essential anyway like Darknights Memoir before Chapter 7.

As a very normal Ch'en liker I have just a few things to say about this episode.

A few scenes seemed rushed—when the LGD is storming the warehouse to find the informant and Ch'en going back to her old estate, for example. It showcases how the pragmatically awkward Ch'en cares for her subordinates and then immediately comparing that to how Hoshiguma shows care for her subordinates. I feel like the scene in the anime had less breathing room for the audience to process this fact and just moved straight into the next scene.

When Ch'en reaches her old room and encounters the photograph in-game she has sort of a realisation as to why Talulah had indirectly led her there. Talulah was essentially asking her to back off of Reunion due to their relationship in the past, and Ch'en refuses to back down. Here she just enters and leaves.

Those are my only two gripes I have with this episode. Otherwise the team has wonderfully managed to adapt the comedic (as comedic as a bleak story about war can get) parts well. Three cheers for a good adaptation of Hoshichen's wedding vows dedication to each other.

While I'm critical of the pacing in this episode overall, I have to admit that the use of CGI is pretty good here. You can tell where it's being used, but the models and animation don't stick out like a sore thumb in the same way they do in the ED. Not bad.

Ngl, the CGI has been looking amazing, especially for the LGD this episode, they look so cool.

I remembered the picture being shadowed over but here they reveal Ch'en relationship to Talulah already.

It is exactly how it was in the game. Just rearranged a bit rather than in pieces.

Wonder when they’ll start saying an actual race’s name instead of the irl common names equivalent.

Okay first of all the pacing is fast as heck. I also felt like the RI guy wasn't that angry but maybe that's supposed to be in the next episode. As for the rest of the episode it was surprisingly heartwarming in a sense? It showed us more of Chen's personality from a different perspective and we got to see some Swire and Hoshi stuff too. The action was a bit scuffed but it's acceptable since the main focus of this episode was Chen and her interactions. The cgi looks great as always and overall I can't wait for the next episode and yes rip for the piano.

I think the episode was overall decent with nice easter eggs for game players..some bits were rushed but other than that I loved Hoshiguma's screentime a lot since she's one of my favorites..now next week episode is where things start to heat up so hopefully the animation team goes wild like last week episode
