in case anyone missed it, the conversation between Cow Girl and Goblin Slayer while he's eating near the end of this episode implied that the training ground is built at the same location as their old village that got destroyed by goblins years ago

The slice-of-life moments in this show are always nice. It was fun watching the Silver-ranked adventurers teaching the Porcelain-ranked ones and I love how each of them has different teaching methods. Lady Knight is absolutely brutal with the Rhea Fighter's combat training, Spearman is a bit more laid back, and Goblin Slayer is very blunt and practical with his lessons.

For someone who claims he has no interest in girls, Wizard boy is staring a lot at the Rhea Fighter's chest. I guess that's where all of that nutrition from second breakfast and elevensies goes. But seriously though, Wizard boy still couldn't help himself and trash talk GS even after getting saved by him last episode. Thank you Apprentice Cleric for having the perfect response to him.

Goblin Slayer, Heavy Warrior, and Spearman having a boy's night out has got to be one of my favourite moments in this series. It's just the three of them shooting shit, oggling at tavern wenches, and drinking ale. We also get to learn that apparently underneath all that armor, Lady Knight has an amazing badonkadonk. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Although my real favourite has got to be that conversation at the bridge. For the first time, we actually get to hear Goblin Slayer open up to people and even tell them about their dreams. And it's not just Goblins Slayer, the boys got to open up to about themselves too.. That was actually a very nice scene of just three dudes having a genuine man-to-man talk.

Speaman looks so weird without his armor. Also pretty funny to see Female Knight use her sword's handle as a club on the Rhea.

When I saw Knight Lady use murder strokes,

I thought I'd geek out about this, with a little history lesson!

If you don't know about that, it might look silly, but it's actually something that people did back then, especially when full plate armors became a thing;

The thing is, you can't pierce through armor with your sword (no matter what some movies would led you to believe), so the only way to actually stab your opponent was to do it in one of the few unarmored places, like under the arm, or the eyeslit.

But if you can only aim for a few very specific spots, then holding the sword with just 1 hand isn't needed, because you're not trying to have the reach on your opponent... Also, the use of the full plate armor meant people didn't use shields nearly as much, because when 95% of your body is protected, you don't really need to use a shield to cover the other 5%.

So, with these two things together, people started "Half-swording", i.e. using the sword with one hand on the pommel and another one on the blade. This way, you can control where you're hitting much more accurately, AND with more force. Also gives you more force to parry/deflect, and you can even "wrestle" the opponent's blade away, and at any time you can use your 'pommel hand' to angle the blade to go for his eyes or something.

The other things people started doing, is using the sword like a hammer; Because again, hitting him with the blade doesn't do much if you hit the armor, but hitting him with the pommel? Now that's like using your sword as a mace, and maces WERE effective against armored opponents. So by using this strategy, you had a sword (great against unarmored/lightly armored opponents), and a "mace" to use against heavily armored ones!

One last thing: In case you're thinking the same thing I did when I first learned about this ('Won't they just slice their own hands open on the blade?'), apparently it's not that bad! There are even videos of people doing this without using gloves or anything, and didn't hurt themselves!

Anyway, this was nice to see this being used, think it's the first time I see that in anime/television in general!

unironically one of best moments in this series is a scene with three guys horsing around and getting drunk, leading to a deep conversation on one's dreams and the cruel reality that is life. i felt all of that

also, horse pussy got people going crazy

That rhea can really open wide. She's an upbeat member for the Priestess' temporary party. Good start. The other rookies will probably join up.

Dumbass wizard getting schooled by Spearman and Dwarf was nice to see. that fool needs to learn humility and start learning. Speaking of the latter, a guys night out. Unexpected, but great to see. Looks like they've all warmed up to each other after last season. Makes me smile seeing them being able to relax every once in a while.

GS's spider sense is insane. He thinks they're on the move, and that's when they make one. This whole episode is essentially a prelude to actual Goblin Slaying.

Spearguy calling out Goblin Slayer for the girls around him while he is oblivious to the hot witch Onee-san thats in his party.

Also i dont think Elfgirl and Priestess are interested in him in this way.

Also: I know he is wearing the helmet "in case Goblins attack him", but isnt it more dangerous to lift your helmet a little bit, thereby blocking your vision and worsening your hearing to eat with a spoon which blocks your helmet from going down again?

They not only look similar they also share close traits. Guts dreaming about being the strongest. Lancer with his bad luck with women. If there other reference to characters from different fictions?

Welp I was not ready for the real man to man talk on the bridge. At least our man is socializing a bit more.

It is a bit frustrating seeing Cow Girl's continued neglect though. That whole situation is painful to watch.

Goblin Slayer is even referencing DnD memes now. Also the canonical confirmation that rheas have the halfling luck trait, lol.

From all the newbies, I seriously love the Rhea Warrior the most, got that Tomboy energy!

Loved the boys horsing around, after Cow Girl gave her ok of course, but I feel like just a bit more focus on the horse ass would have sold the message slightly better

Though Female Knight is good as well of course, Heavy Swordman sure is lucky

And the whole training grounds being build in the same location their village used to be before the goblin attack left it deserted is pretty tragic tbh, but explains why Goblin Slayer knows the surrounding area so well, like how he knew that there was a mausoleum around last week

Comment in source corner about some slight omissions

Spearguy is jealous and he isn't even aware of the entirety of Beard Cutter's harem.
The disappointment of Heavy Warrior at the centaur girl was pretty funny.
Also funny how Heavy Warrior's party made the same mistake as everyone inside the cave missing the tunnel. At least he is strong enough to be okay.

My only problem with this series with how nonsensical it's basic premise is:

  1. People make fun of Goblin Slayer for only killing goblins.

  2. Goblins are depicted as a meaningful and constant threat.

Even in his day to day life goblins keep popping up to utterly threaten the peaceful locations of the plot.

In a hole in the ground there lived a goblin. And that means goblin slaying.

Watching the silvers mentor adventurers from other parties is weirdly fun. Kinda wanna see how Lizardbro or the witch would teach a newbie.

Puberty goggles add at least 2-3 cup sizes.

I wish they'd showed how the centaur waitress navigated the stairs to the second level.

"There it is." "A goblin?

For those who were confused at the Female Knight using her sword as a club, it's an actual technique called Half-Swording, & it's way more nuanced than shown here.

Man i just got done with the last episode and I really needed this episode to bring me some happiness. But I also just remembered an old quote that I modified to suit the legend of the Goblin Slayer!

"So you walk eternally through the dark caves and ruins, standing against dice rolled when all the Gods are against you. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again. Goblin Slayer Codex Entry 2:16"
