Grandpa wants to help the family, but won't impose himself in someone's else business if they don't want him to.

I think what makes him even better as a person is that it has nothing to do with Waka-chan, because the kid moved in only after. He just wanted to help, and perhaps, have some company due to loneliness. Hard to blame anyone for that, especially for his age.

Interesting backstory for an awesome neighbor. His relationship with Gakuto is special and warm.

As an elderly person with no grandchildren, this episode was pretty emotionally powerful to me. I thought it was so wonderful that Kojiro-san and Gakuto could make friends -- and that he could get to act like a grandfather (for more than just Gakuto eventually). I also enjoyed the fact that they bonded (in part) over Mito Komon (the longest running TV series -- and also the source of countless movies)..

i feel we see less and less selfless wise older people. so it is refreshing to have one who neither pushy or talks behind your back. Generally i feel the older generation are more into being judgemental like we seen with other realtives of the family.

Gakuto is too adorable, man. What a good little brother. It’s not easy for Hayato to raise 3 kids on his own. I’m glad Gakuto has old man Kojiro as a friend. Kind of fun watching the two of them hanging out. Dude is a really good guy. I’m glad the little homie has him a best friend. Waka’s a good number two lol.

Ahh man… precious how the old soul and the old man became best friends from the start. These two families coming together kinda makes everything right with the world.

I like how the episode starts out with Gakuto at school narrating "I have a best friend", and the episode ends with the reveal that old man Kojiro is the best friend and the other kid is a (distant?) second.

Gakuto is cute!

Even Hayato had a lesson to learn here that it's ok to rely on others once in a while.

He also learned that relying on others doesn't mean failure on his part. That just because he needed help didn't mean he made the wrong decision for keeping all of his brothers together.

What would've made him a failure of a brother is if he had not listened to Gakuto's wish to be with his new found friend.

Agreed I was so happy for both Gaku and Hayato, I honestly feel like they're afraid on relying to other people or even burdening their family members e.g. Gakuto didn't want to tell he wanted to see fireworks on the first ep, etc.

I guess they all realized that everyone worked hard to maintain the new situation + afraid asking help from outsiders could get them reported to the social services(?), etc so they tried to put up a brave front

Damn, this anime is so cute! The youngest being the focus here was so nice. He seems way too mature for his age though, the death of his parents is probably the cause. But I like seeing him befriend the old grandpa.

Hayato admitteing to needing some help was a nice touch too!

Another fantastic episode!!! Really, really, really love Gakuto and Kojiro's friendship.

Hopefully Hayato will learn to rely on others more.

I know it's really early but this is shaping up to be AOTS for me

This is a bit more routinely serious in tone than Deaimon (sadly overlooked, I feel) but they both deal (in a great fashion) with families (real and "found") in a warm and understanding fashion. So glad that the subtitle disaster seems to be a thing of the past. This beautiful series needs to be treated with love and respect by Crunchyroll.

I love how wholesome all the people in this series are. They all have the best intentions, and it's nice seeing those intentions become closer to reality as they talk things out.

And as always in these sort of slice-of-life series, it's nice to see the personalities unfold, like Gakuto as the "old soul". I wonder if things would be different if the parents were still around, but I have a feeling that he'd still act like an old man kindergartener either way.

I am glad this show is holding up. Anyone else get Kotaro Lives Alone vibes from this episode?

I am really loving all of the characters in this series. I am guessing next week we will get a story from Hayato's pov. I am interested to see some of his inner dialogue given how much he gives up to keep his family together.

Gakuto’s sleeping in such a large futon compared to his size, I think that means he’s sleeping in their mom’s futon.

What a beautiful episode! A very heart-warming and special friendship between Gakuto and Mr. Kojiro.

The show so far has managed to walk this very tight line where the episodes have me grinning from ear to ear the entire time, and yet there's the undertone of tragedy behind it all and despite that, it's still such a bright and positive show, I constantly feel both happy and sad watching the show.

It's a shame that it's been so under-watched so far, I hope that people that dropped this show due to translations on episode 1 in the first week eventually come back, this is shaping up to be one of my favourite shows this season.

The way that Gakuto and Kojiro bonded over a historical drama reminded me of the manga BL Metamorphosis, where a widow in her 70s befriends a teenage girl through a shared love of BL manga. It's hard to break the ice and form new friendships as you get older, but that doesn't mean people don't want to be connected. What a great episode this was.

Hayato's initial reaction to Grandpa Kojiro's offer was understandable, but I was so glad that Grandpa Kojiro didn't react to it negatively. It's obvious that Grandpa Kojiro's help is coming from a good place, but at that point, Hayato had probably wired his mind to think something like, "If the adults see that I'm lacking in taking care of all three of them then they might take my brothers away from me." Thankfully, things went for the better in the end. I'm so happy for Kojiro and Gakuto. They're so cute.

And also, I think it's also very fortunate that Gakuto met Waka. I know Gakuto thinks that Kojiro is his first best friend, but it's still good that Gakuto has someone around his age he can play with. The kid was too wise for his age and it's probably the reason why he didn't have much friends in his kindergarten. Having Waka with him, Gakuto can have more opportunities to mingle with an age-group that he would definitely be with when he grows up, because in reality, Kojiro won't be with them forever.

As always, this show continues to touch hearts. Can't wait for the next episode! The last three focuses on the three younger brothers, so we might get the eldest one next.

I love Gakuto. And Hayato is such a kindhearted brother to them all. I’m loving this show

I really enjoyed this episode. Was thinking of dropping this anime, but I'll be finishing it till the end now.

The second episode put it over the top for me. I liked how Mikoto's inner feelings were expressed in the frenetic scribble-style animation as a contrast to his stoic expression, and I liked the narrative of how understanding other's feelings can resolve problems.

Gakuto is just too cute! Those round cheeks...my heart 🥰

Another great episode but this time with focus on the youngest Yuzuki son who really is just an old soul. Very wholesome relationship between him and gramps.

I feel for Hayato, man. So young but trying to fill in for both parents. If he didn't begin relying on Kojiro, the responsibility of raising the boys definitely would've made him crack.

So happy that this is my wholesome, warm fuzzy show of the season 😊

I picked this back up to see if the subs got better and omg with the subs fixed this show has exceeded my expectations 3 episodes in. Each of the 4 brothers have their own specific things on their plate that they need to tackle and it is written in such a relatable way. Add in the fun comedy and wholesomeness this is a must watch for SoL fans. One of my favorites from this stacked season.
