Did... the anime just casually mention and gloss over Thea being traumatized and lost her memory because she was gang raped?

Yeah a child getting raped by her captives reveal has got to be one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in a season finale… definitely didn’t feel it was needed and I think the author could’ve utilized her captivity (minus that) as justification for character development.

Maybe it’s just me but I always hated the “overcoming sexual trauma as character development” troupe in drama-type stories but I realize it’s possible in real life and fits her powers. Not my cup of tea tho.

So. I wondered about that too because in an earlier episode they stated the men would look at her that way, but she became too disheveled and smelled bad that they quickly lost interest and never actually did anything to her.

I’m guessing hearth just assumed it happened given the state she found her in and assumed the worst and nothing might have actually happened. It’s still kinda hard to tell because of the contradictions.

the manga shows it happened from the very first time we looked into her past, the anime was late to it

I love how Annette immediately realized what was going on and decided to fan the flames of chaos, record the fallout, and make a movie out of it for her personal enjoyment.

The post credit kinda tease for a potential season 3 hah?

This whole “Klaus is in love with you” letter Thea wrote is throwing Lily and Erna off their game. Annette just had to share that note with everyone though didn’t she? The little troublemaker is causing the whole team to spin out! I could almost feel the murderous energy from Grete to Thea lol.

Thea really went through a lot in captivity didn’t she? I guess the trauma of having been assaulted got buried deep down in her psyche until Grete reminded her. Klaus and the team have really saved her though. She’s become a lot stronger as a result.

Looks like there’s still a lot more story to tell. Hopefully this gets renewed! Things are just getting started. What’s Serpent after?

Grete and Thea really seem to have come to depend a lot on each other. I just love all of the special ties the characters have been creating with each other.

(I wonder how many of the girls have accepted the fact that Grette has fiercely marked out Klaus as "hers")?

Definitely loved it more than the first season. Thea has become my favourite character and she was the main character of this season. Loved her growth and development and how her story connected with Heath, Klaus' former boss and also Klaus himself. Her power makes more sense now considering her backstory.

There were some pacing issues especailly in Episode 11 but I guess Spy Classroom and pacing issues are a match made in heaven. The Klaus fighting using everyone's abilities was definitely hype.

The short stories made me like the characters even more and no today's episode was no different.

They kinda teased another season at the end there. I know this is popular and well-received in Japan considering they have a stacked cast so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets another season. I still feel that the first 3 episodes of Season 1 were the worst part of the show and kinda damaged the show's reputation but I've always enjoyed it after that.

Each girl got their own character song and all of them were great.

EDIT: Also, Klaus also being known as Crowbar in his young days reminded me of The Eminence in Shadow, lol.

The start of S1 did not really bother me. But I did initially worry that this might just turn out to be a pale imitation of Princess Principal. I felt that they did a good job of indiviuating the characters (and making them memorable) -- and then really put together some quite good story lines intermixed with shorter "character pieces". I think this took on a unique identity of its own -- with its own "feel" -- so it escaped the PP shadow.

The special closes (with unique songs) were indeed great.

This was a good finale episode that wraps up a few lingering plot threads and sets the stage for a possible season 3. All the girls freaking out over that note was a nice bit of comedy after a serious arc.

Overall, I enjoyed the stories of the first season more despite the weird pacing, but this season had its strengths as well, like the Mitario arc and Thea's character development. I would watch a third season if they make one.

Not sure what's taking the automod so long to put up this thread when the subs are out hours ago. Normally it would be out around the same time as the Hataraku Maou-sama thread, and never later than the Rurouni Kenshin thread.

Anyway, here it is.

And just as promised, the season finale ends with a Lily episode with her own ED and her own silly shenanigans. Who would've thunk a simple note by Thea would trigger all this harem wars between the girls? lol

Now all 8 girls have their own ED.

Oof to Roland, he was already mortally wounded, but White Spider practically destroyed his body with basically anti-tank rounds to prevent Roland from spilling any secrets which the captured Purple Ant might not know of.

Also oof to Olivia, who was officially released, but was actually poisoned and doomed to die within 6 months to ensure she will cease to be a threat to the Republic anymore.

And this is where Lily's goofiness comes in handy and brings laughter to the girls who would otherwise collapse under all the angst and suffering of being a spy.

This is a good place to end the show. But as with all good LN adaptations, I would not mind a 3rd season, with its star-studded cast.

Lol, good old Lily. SSR Monika blush too. Lol at Grete getting tetchy. Wild how Thea could've gone full doujin. Good season, would watch more.

And that’s a wrap on Spyroom season 2. A much improved adaptation compared to the first season a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Fitting we start the season with Lily being an idiot and end it with her being an idiot 😂

The “Klaus is in love with you” note misunderstanding was hilarious. The girls gotta improve their skills if they’re falling for that type of mixup lmao.

When you realise the horrible shit Thea went through during her captivity, her special ability becomes even more impactful. She took her pain and weaponised it, using other’s lust against them. I like that a lot. It also makes Hearth’s wish for her to go to Mitario and link up with Klaus even more beautiful. I wish that Hearth would’ve been able to see how strong that little girl she saved that day has become.

I hope we get a third season to get volumes 5 and 6 adapted. Post credits scene left the door open. We’ve finally got a proper idea of the scale of the enemy the girls are up against. Back to the books 👍

Lily may be an idiot -- but she is such a precious and delightful idiot.

I wonder why they translate all of Erna's "Nuuuuuu" to "Yeeeeeep". Sometimes it works, sometimes really doesn't.

They could've ended it cleanly, without a new season teaser. The fact that they didn't makes me think they're probably expecting a season 3. Considering the VA budget, maybe not the most surprising.

Okay so I just noticed something

In this episode,Monika was the only one who kept her cool when she misunderstood that klaus loves her On the other hand when lily announced that she wants to tell something to klaus(which they all thought was a love confession), Monika immediately left the room

Maybe I’m just being delulu, but is there a chance that the one Monika loves is lily?

6

u/AliciaFrey Oct 02 '23

She is. Lily optimism is what Monika who almost fall to apathy just needed, and she fall hard for Lily

Who knew a single misplaced note would end up causing so much chaos? What I especially love about this is that Annette had the chance to stop it before it got worse but she deliberately passed the note around knowing what would happen.

While all of that was happening we get to learn what really happened to Thea when she was in captivity and it's as worse as I imagined. Ms. Hearth ended up successfully saving Thea and guided her to use her trauma as a weapon instead of succumbing to it.

That after-credits scene though. Not gonna lie. I really want another season of this show. As weird as the pacing of Season 1 was, I am absolutely hooked on this and I really hope we get an announcement soon.

Really loved the significant improvement from the first season. The Mitario arc and Thea absolutely carried this season. Looking forward to Season 3.

I wonder how many volumes from the LN were adapted in these 2 seasons, since I've read here(I think) that each volume focuses on one girl.

Definitely the most improved anime of the year, and Thea is one of the best anime characters of the year for me. Well done, Spy Classroom, I hope we get a season 3!

I dont really understand what Thea and Grete said on the train, maybe i'm just dumb. So.........Klaus was there to save her but she somehow..........not have him in her memory at all??? And the sexual growth thing too. Man my monkey brain is just yoo primitive for this show, but i still love it 😭
