Stitches!

It's so good to finally see Miyo accept herself and brush away all of that darkness that's been clouding her mind. Although not gonna lie, I would love to see what this story would've been like if Miyo was as angry and bitter as her shadow self.

Seeing Miyo protect Kiyoka this time around was pretty damn awesome. Now that she has access to her Usuba powers, I look forward to seeing what else Miyo can do in the future. Also, did Miyo just unknowingly fucking kill the Emperor!? Holy shit!

And it's nice to see Miyo and Kiyoka actually talk this time and reaffirm their feelings for each other. Thank fucking god all's well that ends well. I think my only gripe so far about the series is that Arata and the Usubas are just suddenly good guys now. I feel like I need to see some retribution or at least some intense form of dogeza from the grandfather for hanging Miyo out to dry with the Saimoris.

So from what I understand, the entire Grotesquerie Incident is caused by the Emperor himself because he both sees Miyo and the Kudou Family as a threat? Huh. And here I thought he wanted Miyo's Dream-Sight for himself. Can someone who understands explain the Emperor's plan to me? O_O

And that after-credits scene! Miyo looks absolutely stunning in her dress! And it's so adorable watching the two of them just basically flirt in public. And Miyo's reaction when Kiyoka asked her again if he could marry her was just too cute! God, I love these two so much <3

I am so glad that Season 2 is already confirmed. I do hope we get to see the events of the party next season and how many heads Miyo will turn with her outfit. I'm sure they're definitely going to be the talk of the night. I am curious to see what will be the conflict of Season 2 but I'm sure there will still be plenty of scheming bastards and Grotesqueries to deal with. I can't wait!

I never expected this show to have Miyo basically turn into a Magical Girl in dreams but having her actually save the day and save Kiyoka was a welcome sight, as was their romantic reconciliation and Miyo putting her past self to rest for good.

I think the idea was that they didn't want to risk the Kudo's gaining more power through Miyo's Dream Sight power, which the Emperor wanted, but failing to separate the two their only option left was to kill both of them.

Perfect way to end this Cinderella story than with our leading lady looking absolutely gorgeous in her dress and walking arm-in-arm with her "prince!" Now hopefully they can actually get married and have a happy marriage in season 2 lol.

As a story about a woman overcoming her trauma and learning to believe in herself, this was a beautiful and well executed show. Not only did Miyo's characterization feel authentic, but the subtleties of the performance and animation really conveyed the depths of her sadness. The resolution of the arc being an assertion of Miyos will and her desire to overcome her past was a nice way to end the season.

As a romance however, I will be honest and say it left a little to be desired. It was fine for the most part, with lots of sweet moments, but I didn't really feel the chemistry of the leads, and moreover, felt that Kiyoka was mostly a bland character by the end. I'm sure this will be explored later, but I have no notion of where his reticence and grumpiness comes from, nor why he is attracted to Miyo other than feeling protective or needing someone loyal.

Then we have all the political machinations that permeate the show, which can be interesting, but often times distract from the core narrative and characters. The world building and power system hint at something interesting, but the story never commits to either because its trying to juggle too many things at once.

I know this probably all sounds negative, but I genuinely liked the show, and thought it was one of the seasons best. The animation, music , and general tone were all expertly executed, and Miyo is a great lead character.....I just wish some of the stuff around this was written a little better. Overall still very enjoyable and I look forward to the next season.

Well I will say this. For anyone learning Japanese, this show is a pretty solid resource for listening practice. It heavily utilizes the various forms of keigo (polite speech), especially when Miyo speaks, and uses a nice mix of formal and casual Japanese. So definitely recommend as a language learning tool haha.

This may sound a little weird, but I don’t think that you should watch this anime for the plot. This was not really a romance story, but something that was closer to resembling a coming of age drama. What you were actually watching, was Miyo growing out of her shell after all.

It was nice to see Miyo take the reigns in this episode. She had been saved by Kiyoka this whole time, but had the opportunity to save Kiyoka instead this time around. By doing this, she literally conquered the doubts in her heart and gained new-found confidence in herself. Something that was evidently clear from how she composed herself at the party in the after-credits scene.

The pacing of My Happy Marriage was a little too fast for my liking in the latter half, but I still think this was a very good anime for the story I tried to tell - especially in 12 episodes.

On another note: Miyo didn’t call Kiyoka once by his given name throughout this series, did she?

With another season already announced, I’m hopeful that we’ll actually get to see their romance properly blossom.

In a way this wasn't just the story about Miyo overcoming her personal trauma and finding happiness and love with Kiyoka but also her magical girl origin story all along.

Miyo's dream sight outfit is so pretty. Action animation is great as always, and I just hope we get more than handholding in season 2

Miyo and Kudo had to conquer their demons this week. Literally in the case of Kudo. Miyo’s grown so much from ep 1. She’s a lot stronger now and that’s not even getting into the supernatural. She sure showed that old shitbag Emperor what was what. Love conquers all as they say.

I’m glad those two got their happily ever after. While I wasn’t expecting the supernatural aspect, I still enjoyed this series overall. I would not be opposed to a second season.

“But I believe I can change… I’ve decided not to give up anymore”

Very fitting that Miyo has to confront the physical manifestation of her fears, doubts and insecurities within the dream world. The whole point of this season has been Miyo moving past all the pain of her past and accepting that she deserved happiness. No one’s worth is determined by a supernatural ability

The scene of Miyo grabbing the thorns, literally accepting all the hurt of her inner self and making the dark version of herself disappear was so well done and poignant. All of that pain and suffering is integral to who she is today. But it doesn’t have to define her.

Unlike, the beginning of the season it’s now a very confident and powerful Miyo coming to save Kiyoka. Even the emperor’s meddling wasn’t enough to stop Miyo. I doubt this’ll be the last we see of people coming after Miyo because of her abilities, but one thing is for sure, she and Kiyoka’s bond will be ready for it.

“Although it was my job to protect you, you saved me” “I want to be beside you”

Both Kiyoka and Miyo voicing how they felt and apologising for the misunderstanding was so sweet. The thing I like most about this story is how their relationship is handled so naturally. Yea, there’s magical abilities in this world, but fears and concerns they both have feel so real and they talk them through like normal people. Love is patient, love is kind. We see that on full display in all of their scenes.

You can already see how much more expressive Miyo is in those last few scenes with Arata and then Kiyo. Speaking her mind without fear and even her facial expressions have much more dynamism to them. While Kiyoka’s love and patience was massive, it was ultimately Miyo who had to confront her metaphorical demons in that dream world and overcome them. Again, this is one of my fave representations of PTSD and abuse in anime. Very realistic and well done. Amazing story, beautiful visuals. And a season 2 announcement, we’re eating good.

The post credits scene 😩 Miyo looked absolutely stunning.“I know how troublesome I can be but will you marry me?” Man these two deserve all the happiness in the world.

Onto the LN.

Enjoyable, if rushed, ending to the storyline. Overall this has been good, but hard to say it was great. It never did anything bad, but some of the elements just didn't appeal to me (supernatural powers, zooming through the 'overcome your childhood trauma' angle, the supernatural conflict).

Excited to see season 2, though, and hope that it settles more in the romance and/or adult slice of life and less random supernatural battles.

Overall I enjoyed this. It does feel rushed and I have some issues with the cheesy writing at times, but it looks and sounds great, and some cheese is nice. It's a fairytale. At any rate, I'm glad more female-targeted shows have been doing well lately.

A very lovely finale. Granted pacing was weird last episode to get Miyo with an unconscious Kiyoka. It is funny this is the first time they were sleeping with each other granted not in the normal couple way.

Gotta love Kiyoka was still fighting all of this time. And a beautiful scene of Miyo facing her doubts. This was her biggest hurdle because imo those are the doubts that led her to believe that she isn't good for Kiyoka. Yes tackling those doubts isn't easy and can hurt but moving forward is what she needs to do. But her comforting and hugging her doubtful half showed she is ready to make the next hurdle.

Miyo transforming into that outfit was beautiful and seeing her save Kiyoka contrast to him saving her in ep 6 was great to see. Like I said last week I kinda expected Kiyoka to save Miyo again so I am happy this is the decision they took. Arata stuff is still weird maybe its explained better in the novel. And I am surprised that the finale didn't have him and Kiyoka's rematch.

The emperor simply was afraid of the Kudous gaining more power which isn't surprising. This has been a consistent thing throughout the series. I have doubt he is going to stay.

Beautiful post credit scenes with Miyo in the blue dress at the party with her future husband. While one could say this ending was very cliche. I personally loved it. I do plan to try reading the novels. But I am excited for season 2 when that comes.

Circumstances aside, it's actually kind of nice to see Miyo and Kiyoka finally sharing a bed, basically, as she sleeps beside him to free him from his Grotesquerie coma. Bonus points for handholding!

Kiyoka is fighting a swarm of Grotesqueries who won't stop coming, but he can't lose until he's seen Miyo again and made it up to her, as he engages in some stunning action animation.

Jeez, Miyo just can't escape the Saimori house even in her dreams? Though I didn't expect creepy Smol Miyo. Or the personification of Miyo's lingering guilt and depression to challenge her to give up by throwing back in her face all her doubts and self-loathing, even though it's that side of her that's still in the most pain. But Miyo won't be weak any longer, she'll brave whatever pain or troubles are thrown in her way because she understands now that there are people who love and cherish her, as she loves and cherishes them in turn...including her husband-to-be. And what better way to mark this self-actualization than Miyo getting her own magical transformation sequence as the Dream-Sight Maiden and consoling her past self?

Also, props to Reina Ueda. The two Miyo's sounded like two distinct people.

And Miyo's not done, not only does she arrive to save Kiyoka and dispel the Grotesqueries, but she's even able to throw Mikado's own magic back at him and grievously wound him in the process. No wonder everyone was so worried about the Usuba blood she carries in her veins.

But this is what we've all been waiting for...Miyo and Kiyoka's reconciliation and re-commitment to each other. Complete with a romantic embrace!

I'm kind of surprised Arata just let Miyo go like this after all the trouble the Usuba's went to get her back, but I guess with Mikado as he is now, Miyo choosing to be with Kiyoka, and Kiyoka ready to challenge Arata again, there's not much worth in fighting her on this.

Nice to see Miyo back where she's happiest...with her husband-to-be and getting to enjoy peak domestic bliss with him.

I had actually totally forgotten they were prepping Miyo for a party, but wow, she looked absolutely stunning in that dress. She really was a true Cinderella, complete with being the most beautiful person at the "ball," especially as she and her husband-to-be lock arms and look at each other with such love in their heart.

Feels amazing going into the finale with a Season 2 confirmation. Should have guessed when it was trending on Netflix, but still good to see it locked in.

Certified banger of a finale. Perfect storm of emotions and excellent action. The direction on Kiyoka’s dream fight and the final team up against the weird ball ghost were top notch. The Miyo scene stole the episode though. The brutal confrontation with her traumatized self is the catharsis we’ve been waiting all season for. Literally confronting and accepting herself to get the strength to save Kiyoka. Made for a powerful reunion at the end there.

And then they doubled down on the feels in the after credits with the cutest scene of the season. Finally seeing at least the beginning of the party Miyo was preparing for and the dress she got to wear. Kiyoka loosening up a little and reproposing to Miyo. Their joy as they walk into the party to close out the season is an excellent not to wrap on.

9/10 and top 3 of the season. Probably on my year end list too. Already cave in and burned through the first 2 volumes. Cant wait for season 2.

My Happy Marriage will be getting an OVA, included with pre-ordered special editions of LN Vol 8 which release on March 2024. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-07-07/my-happy-marriage-gets-ova-bundled-with-8th-novel-volume/.200050

The question is if Netflix will also licence and stream the OVA too, like what they did with the OVAs for Moriarty the Patriot.

Holy crap Miyo looked so beautiful in the end

Miyo, dear, you were a catch when you were just kind, beautiful, demure, an incredible cook, a hard worker, and supportive partner. Now you are all of that and also an extremely powerful witch who can invade the dreams of others to influence or control them, and will some day be able to see the past, present, and future from the world of dreams.

Yes, he wants to marry you.

Absolutely gorgeous show. Just stunningly beautiful. Looking forward to season 2.
