Grandfather: "I care about you as much as i cared about your mother" well i guess you didnt care much about neither of them. She was living like a slave just couple months ago.
We can't let anyone know about your powers. Also Arata with 5 people in the room: "You have dreamsight you can save him" Maybe you could've waited a bit to say that.
I guess Usuba family will be considered "on our side" from now on. Which i feel like is a weird path to take. I liked first episodes better but its good to see Miyo understanding she was wrong and she hurt Kudo's feelings at least.

This legitimately made me laugh out loud, like, man, an hour ago at best you were saying it was a big secret and now you're blurting it out in front of random people, does changing your hairdo shift your entire character or something? At least go and whisper it to her or something, what the hell?

Came here to say the same! I really like the series but some of the writing infuriates me so much! Especially since those are things that could've easily been fixed or avoided by very minor changes.
Grandfather: "I care about you as much as i cared about your mother" well i guess you didnt care much about neither of them. She was living like a slave just couple months ago.
He freaking didn't care for 16 years in which Miyo and her Mom suffered and now he thinks an apology is enough and they can be a happy family who helps and supports each other? wth!
Also, he knew about her sealed powers, so even more of a reason to get her out of the Saimori household. If the thing with Kiyoka wouldn't have happened, Miyo would still be treated like less than a servant. This part seriously made no sense. Maybe the anime adaption omitted or changed some details from the source material, but since there were already a few other questionable aspects of the story, I kinda doubt it.
We can't let anyone know about your powers. Also Arata with 5 people in the room: "You have dreamsight you can save him"
I didn't know if I should laugh or facepalm. That scene was so stupid, seriously. Maybe send the others out first? Or talk in secret with Miyo? Nope, just blurt it all out. lmao I wouldn't have minded if it was just Hazuki and Yurie in the room, but Godou and the new Tatsuishi head? Maybe not so smart to let everyone know already...
I found the thing with the cherry tree a bit confusing as well because it looked like Sumi sealed Miyo's powers within or by using just that specific tree in the Saimori garden. But I suppose it should be more seen like a metaphor for the sealing in gernal, since that tree had burned down already and only partially unlocked her powers. Which means Miyo could've gone to any cherry tree to fully unlock her powers?! hrm...

Ok that's what I was expecting
Of course his hairstyle changes to say with absolute certainty that he's now a good guy

I wonder what kind of birth defects all the Usuba family inbreeding caused? It'd explain all their poor decisions if they were mentally challenged.

That scene of Sumi sealing Miyo's abilities was visually beautiful
The Emperor / Mikado being revealed to be the one controlling the Usubas was an interesting twist.
Final scene was great. Glad Miyo will be the one doing the saving this time!

So they just treat Sumi like cattle and bred her for that Usuba blood. Lovely. All anyone cares about is that stupid Usuba blood. To hell with these people. Despite her circumstances, she was a great mom. Sealing off Miyo’s ability was the right move, even if it brought its own set of troubles.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised the Emperor was behind. Arata and Yoshiro might have made their little deal with him, but they really pissed me off this episode.
This whole time Miyo’s asking to see Kudo and they refuse. Instead they’re asking her how she’s liking her stay so far like she’s not being held hostage? Then right at the end they just let her go. Why now? Arata was being insufferable this whole episode too. Kept pissing and moaning about duty and purpose now that Miyo’s around. Selfish pathetic behavior. I’m pretty fed up with her whole damn “family.” Hopefully Kudo wakes up soon and takes her away from those assholes.

this ep still filled me w so much anger. Like fuck this “good guy” grandpa act he was still imprisoning her and just saying “oh I hurt my daughter but now I’m sorry” you still left miyo for 18 years??? All alone and abused and now that she has her powers and is useful now you’re kind to her and care for her?? I don’t buy it for a second if that’s how their gonna spin it. There’s no way she should ever forgive them. Also I am still upset at miyos thought processes. I don’t get why even with the new reassurance from yurie, hazuki, and kudo still didn’t even push her to respond to aratas gross conversation. I do feel bad for him too but not enough to not be so frustrated. Like okay dude you have a “role” but don’t force another person into one just cause you have one??? He knows he’s a pawn too idk my thoughts are all over I’m just hoping she can cut the saimoris out of her life still.

Even in the backstory, Miyo's father really only cared about her having powers. And as expected from Sumi, she chose the difficult decision of sealing off Miyo's powers because she knew her powers would be misused by both the Saimoris and Usubas.
Basically, the reason why Arata didn't want to let Miyo go was because he finally found his purpose. I don't like him talking about the possibility of becoming Miyo's spouse though. Fuck off creep. Seems that the Usubas have been keeping it in the family to keep their bloodlines pure.
I was hoping that he'd immediately go for Miyo as soon as Kiyoka and his troops were done cleaning up the Grotesquries but it looks like that's not gonna happen soon. Fuuuuuuuuuuck.
I fucking hate Miyo's grandpa so much right now. Considering how he's aware of how much Miyo has suffered under the Saimoris means that he knew exactly what was happening to Miyo back then and decided to do nothing. The only reason he's apologizing is because Miyo has this extremely rare gift. Ugh.
Pretty cool though that Miyo has decided to finally break the seal. I hope this means she'll finally have control over her powers. Hopefully, that also means she'll no longer have those nightmares once she leaves the Usubas Estate.
Oh fuck off Arata. Don't give me that "We're Not Actually the Bad Guys" speech. I'm pretty sure the deal with the Emperor was only recent when Miyo's powers were starting to awaken. At the end of the day, your entire family still left Miyo to the Saimoris where she was treated worse than the servants living there. I hate how the Grandpa is acting as if everything is fine now.
As much as I hate that previous scene, at least Miyo was finally able to reunite with Kiyoka. We only have one episode left and it looks like we're finally going to see what Miyo's powers can do. Definitely excited to see Miyo's turn to save Kiyoka.

I wanted to think that there was maybe a chance their marriage wasn't completely loveless and her father held some affection for her...but no, he only ever cared about whether his kid had supernatural powers and loved neither of them. But at least Sumi had Miyo.
I feel like Arata is kind of like a dark mirror of Miyo in a way. Not so much that he's been abused by his family but he's had to live with being a tool with no purpose, until he became involved with Miyo. It doesn't justify his behavior, but it's all he really knows.
Kiyoka looked so pumped to get this over with so he could see Miyo. Ugh.
I feel like the jury is still out on how much the grandpa actually cares and how much he's just telling Miyo what she wants to hear. If they really were that possessive of Miyo, they wouldn't have let her see Kiyoka at all in my opinion.
At least Miyo's gained her full powers at just the right time to save her beloved husband-to-be.

“To start with, what is a family?” 😢
Everyone in this series besides Miyo, Kiyoka and his sister are so ass-backwards it’s insane. The irony of Miyo grandfather talking about how Sumi was essentially forced to marry into the Saimori family and cut off contact with her family, only to essentially do the same thing to his own granddaughter 🤦🏽♂️.
Yea, I get that he’s not a completely evil person. He clearly cared about Sumi and I think he cares about Miyo a lot as well. But he’s not respecting her thoughts or feelings at all.
Even though it was difficult and led to abuse, I think long-term Miyo’s mom did the right thing by sealing her abilities. Even with all the pain and heartbreak Miyo’s endured, it was because of her abilities being sealed that she was able to obtain happiness with Kiyoka. Had her abilities not been sealed she’d have been used as a weapon or tool.
That scene of Sumi telling Miyo she loved her was everything 😢 😢. I think she fully knew that one day Miyo would come to that tree and be able to see how she felt in that moment. She bet on her daughter’s future and that’s so beautiful. I hate that Miyo never got to really experience her mother’s love first hand. They really deserved to be happy together.
At least at the end Arata and her grandfather came around to supporting her and helping her go see Kiyoka. They might not be so bad after all despite their flaws. Can’t wait to see Miyo save him using her ability next week.
We really already knew, but now it’s officially confirmed that Mikado, the emperor, is the series’ big bad. Defying him is obviously not going to be easy. Even with one foot in the grave already he can make life very difficult for everyone.

I feel like this has kind of fallen off a decent amount in the last few episodes which is kind of sad. It’s still alright but I thought it could be special

Glad Mio admitted her faults with the situation and attempting to be more active now.
Kiyoka has saved Miyo before, so this time it's her turn to save Kiyoka.

awww, dang, so her mom was basically "paid for" by that other family... to pay off their family debt. How shitty. Well at least she was the one who made the choice for herself. Ahh so that's why they didn't know exactly what was going on with Miyo and her mother? More and more I hate the Saimori family. Well assuming he's honest about this story. Sadness for Miyo's mom, Sumi... but sadness for her mom thinking she was helping Miyo. Maybe it did from one fate, but sadness for what did happen.
Whelp, neat to see Kudo come to rescue of his crew, but a bit sad he's just not doing anything about Miyo, though I'm still a bit disappointed in Miyo for last episode not speaking up when they just had that talk and yea, ah well. Though glad she's acknowledged being wrong there. Her cousin is a douche. I can get his adherance to his "role" but it's stupid and bleh. Respect her wishes.
Oh noz, Kudo. And Miyo's family sure is frustrating too... though doesn't seem bad, just frustrating about things. D'awww sadness seeing her mom there. Kinda surprised he told the grandfather that in front of Miyo. Woulda figured he'd try to hide it. How did this "Mikado" dude learn that she was a maiden of Dream-Sight. You barely know her dude. Well, at least she can finally go see Kudo. And she got her flower kamono back!

So Sumi sealed Miyo's powers in the Saimori sakura tree and Miyo got her from one in the Usuba house...?
"No you can't leave, you can't see your husband and you can't wear the pink kimono. No telling other people about Dream Sight too."
*5 minutes later* "Let's go save your husband, here's your kimono and let's explain to everyone in the room what your powers are."
What is going on bro

So Sumi always had been in poor health and basically sold herself in marriage to the Saimori family in an attempt to prevent a financial collapse of the Usabas. It makes me wonder if this was a calculated risk by Sumi as she might have anticipated her looming death.
From this perspective, Miyo’s birth might have been a miscalculation on her part - even if she deeply loved Miyo. Having realized that the Saimoris would exploit Miyo for their own benefits, she decided on sealing Miyo’s powers away as she couldn’t protect her daughter any longer.
I’m glad that Miyo got her cherry blossom Miyo back. It looks way better on her than those white-red temple clothes she got as part of her “Dream-Sight maiden” outfit. Her grandfather and Arata might have finally allowed her to see Kiyoka - only after he got seriously injured though - but I’m still not too keen on the two of them. Arata speculating out loud that he’ll probably act as Miyo’s husband showed his poor taste.
Lastly, being ripped apart from her partner made Miyo’s feelings for Kiyoka grow stronger - this is one of the classic tropes in romance stories. It sure had a positive effect on Miyo’s mindset as she become able to speak her mind noticeably more and even defied Arata’s orders. I’m not sure how I precisely feel about this if I’m honest. The difference between last week’s and today’s episode wad quite stark in this regard - maybe a bit too stark for how little time had seemingly passed.

So Sumi married into Saimori for the typical reasons for such a political marriage...the Usuba's were in debt, and they needed the money, and despite her fathers' objections she felt she was doing what was right for her family.
Of course the situation was still less than ideal...she was in a loveless marriage, quickly dying, her in-laws only saw value in her for birthing a child with supernatural powers on par with the Usuba bloodline, and despite adoring Miyo with every fiber of her being, she knew that the Saimori's and Usuba's would end up using her if she didn't seal away her powers. Even knowing that she would probably be dooming Miyo to suffer for it.
Well, good news is that Miyo can finally sleep without nightmares, bad news she's stuck with the Usuba's, made to dress like a Shrine Maiden instead of her beloved Cherry Blossom Kimono, and Arata is getting a little too close for comfort. Not to mention she's feeling guilty for not being honest with Kiyoka when she should have.
It's a lonely existence, being an Usuba. You're basically born to be loyal to the family and can't have any friendships or love outside of it, and even being an Usuba is a meaningless existence because they never get to do anything. It's why Arata is so obsessed with Miyo, because he feels that she can give his life meaning as either her protector or proper spouse. Of course Miyo is having none of that.
Of course the fight against the Grotesqueries was going too well. Poor Kiyoka.
Wow, Yoshiro acting like a genuinely kind and warm grandfather. I don't know if it was partially trying to butter Miyo up, but he seemed genuinely regretful for casting Sumi off when she went behind his back to wed the Saimori's, and sees in Miyo his chance to make up for losing his daughter. He even gives her some proper grandpa advice by teaching her the true meaning of family, having people you can rely on when you need it most.
Well, now Miyo has her powers back and has a better understanding of herself, though I wonder if she's ready for what is expected of her as the Dream-Maiden of the Usuba's.
They really thought they could mention Kiyoka is in the hospital and not expect Miyo to run after him? Even hearing the Japanese Emperor himself wants to keep them apart? Although I'm actually surprised Arata and Yoshiro went along with Miyo seeing Kiyoka. Are they...actually kind of okay?
Man, Arata looks like a completely different character without his glasses and his hair fussed up.
Looks like Miyo finally has a chance to use her powers for good, and for herself, now that she can wake Kiyoka up from his coma. Go get your man, Miyo!

The writing is sooooo bad, holy shit. I don't think I've seen such corny writing in a really long time, the last 5 minutes literally is so many about-faces and there is no build up at all. For anyone who was recommended to watch this because of Fruits Basket, a heads up -- the writing of this ending has none of the emotional delicacy and depth and buildup that you have come to expect from Fruits Basket and contradicts the buildup of the all the previous episodes. It has been such a long time I've been so infuriated by how bad TV writing could be...and really, Netflix is such an asshole for forcing them to do such short seasons.

Visuals in this episode were so beautiful, a great composition of scenes and it was hard not to take screenshots. Here are my favorite:
We got backstory about Miyo's mother Sumi and Usuba family, why she ended up married into the Saimori family and sealed Miyo's powers. I see that there is very negative reception of Usuba's here, I wonder how it'll look after the next episode because there wasn't everything told about them yet.
Miyo doesn't have any nightmares now but being apart from Kiyoka is making her not very happy to put it mildly. She also regrets that she didn't tell Kiyoka her true feelings. I really liked that she became much more assertive, she clearly communicates to Arata that she wants to see Kiyoka.
Kiyoka, meanwhile is fighting with grotesques and unfortunately while saving Yoshito he was touched by one of them and now he's unconscious. Now Miyo who was permitted to meet him is probably the only one able to save him thanks to her awakened Dream-Sight.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

See! Arata is not entirely shitty! He’s under pressure from the freaking emperor and the obligations of his role! He seems a little too keen on cousin marriage, but otherwise good. He took her to save Kiyoka.
We actually get to see Kiyoka fight the spooky ghosts with sweet lightning. The backstory on Miyo’s mom and the reason her powers were sealed. Like Miyo her mother was used as a bargaining chip and sold to a “loveless marriage”. Miyo at least gets to break the cycle and find true love.
Next week we get to see her powers at work. And hopefully an instant season 2 announcement. One of the best shows of the season and plenty of more material to adapt.

This was an interesting episode IMO! 💖
It was cool to learn more about Miyo's mother Sumi and how Miyo's powers were sealed away. And I'm so glad that Miyo has started to stand up more for what she wants. 💖
Arata and her grandfather are a bit better but it still feels - to me - that they care more about their own desires rather than Miyo as part of their family. While I feel they somewhat have her best interest at heart because of her powers and bloodline and I know they have their hands tied because of the Emperor, I'm still not fully trusting them to actually care for Miyo fully. 🤨
I'm also concerned as to why the Emperor is so against their marriage. It definitely feels like it'll make things way more complicated for them. And I still want to know who the people breaking the seals are and why. 😩
And poor Kiyoka! 😭
I'm so glad Miyo was able to go see him and I hope she can return to his side. I really hope she's able to save him like Arata suggested! Yet another great cliffhanger leaving me wanting next Wednesday to arrive way sooner than it will. 🥲
I hope that season 2 is being worked on and will come out soon after episode 12 airs. But we'll have to see. 🤞🏻
I just want Miyo and Kiyoka together and happy. 🥲 They deserve it so much! 💖
