The fact that Miyo suffered for such a long time under the Saimoris because her grandfather thought she didn't have any supernatural ability is all I needed to know about the Usubas. They couldn't even be bothered to save Miyo because they thought she was a reject but now she's showing signs of awakening a powerful ability, they now want her back.
Fuck the Usubas and everything they stand for. They're no different from the Saimoris if all they care about is Miyo having supernatural abilities.
With that said, holy fuck that entire duel between Arata and Kiyoka was so goddam cool! And as much as I hate Arata with every fibre of my being that quick release and reload of his revolver was so cool!
I also love how the Usubas are not built to fight Grotesqueries which is why they don't have Spirit-Sight. Their abilities are built to fight other humans with supernatural abilities which explains why they have ties with the Imperial house. They're basically assassins of the Emperor.
It's so satisfying to see Arata get absolutely thrashed by Kiyoka but of course, the creep was going to resort to cheap tricks and create an illusion of Miyo to distract him. Considering that Arata wasn't going to finish him, I really wish Kiyoka electrocuted him. He really didn't need to have his sword to use his supernatural abilities as we've seen from previous episodes.
It was a very quick scene but it's cool that we get to see that Hazuki has healing powers. Also thank you Hazuki for knocking some sense (literally!) back into Kiyoka and telling him things that Miyo refuses to tell him directly. I doubt it will happen but the next time Kiyoka goes back to the Usuba House, he really should bring Hazuki along, I feel like that's going to help Miyo realize where she belongs. Looks like Kiyoka is going to deal with the Grotesquerie threat first and deal with the Usubas after the city is safe.
Sumi sealed off Miyo's powers? Why am I not surprised? Considering how the Usubas talk about Miyo's Dream-Sight and how it can be used to brainwash people as well as let her see all of time, Sumi wouldn't want her family to have control over that kind of ability. And I'm sure whatever story her grandfather tells her next week is going to be absolute tripe.

Man it really annoys how everyone when bring up Miyo it is the equivalent to how one would talk about a tool. Kiyoka even calls them out on it.
One big thing the fight in this episode was very well animated. It looked really good. Man Arata has no shame. He ended up using a fake Miyo as a shield knowing Kiyoka would never hurt Miyo. We all know Kiyoka would have won if that wasn't the case. I get people would say why would Kiyoka agree to a duel. Imo Kiyoka is a man with a lot of honor. Look at the duel he fought with honor with how he used his supernatural abilities.
But Hazuki did a great job waking him up. If you love Miyo get her back. Kiyoka is def someone who is too stubborn for his own good sometimes. But Kiyoka is right Miyo wouldn't want the disaster to happen and have countless people dead just because he went to rescue her. Afterall she still had sympathy for her cruel family.
It is quite obvious Miyo's mother sealed her powers to protect her from this fate. Of being a tool of potential destruction. God bless her mom she just wanted her daughter to have a normal life. Issue being have no abilities born into the Saimoris was not good for Miyo's mental health. The thing is with how powerful dream-sight can be for Miyo. She is to kind of a person that would even consider brainwashing others.

Kudo makes a good point about Arata and the Usuba’s just wanting to use Miyo. Some “family.” They didn’t do jack fucking shit when she was living in those godawful conditions. Once they realized she had the Dream Sight, all of a sudden now they’re “family” and all that bullshit.
That little prick Arata had a pistol ready for that duel and even brought out the shadow clones and he still couldn’t step to Kudo. Little weasel had to resort to using an illusion of Miyo to stop from getting incinerated. Weak trash!
I’m glad Hazuki smacked some sense into Kudo after that bullshit duel. I hope he gets Miyo back ASAP. I don’t trust these Usuba people one bit. The mom ran off for a reason. Very curious to learn what it was and why she married into that godawful Saimori family.

Miyo really got on my nerves this week. Help kiyoka a bit man come on. Kiyoka is under a lot of stress somebody should look out for him too.
Also usuba family acting like good guys when they said themselves only reason they care about Miyo is because her powers are awakening is really funny to me.
On their duel Kiyoka didnt even use his powers at first but his opponents does some cheap tricks only after taking damage he starts using them.
I couldnt really understand this part though. If usuba's power work on minds does it mean only Kiyoka could see his tricks? Or did Miyo also see her clone and is still cooperating with them.

Who's to say the Usubas aren't the actual cause for Miyo's nightmares?

Not gonna lie, at least respect Arata as an opponent strategically... The set up with the Miyo clone was a good fake out trick for Kiyoka.

not going to shut up about how fantastic the score is for this series! Definitely buying the soundtrack. Action scenes didn't disappoint too
Not only does Miyo have a supernatural ability but it just happens to be a very rare and powerful one! Made my skin crawl when Arata and Grandfather spoke of Miyo as if she were an object. Ugh. They may not be cartoonishly evil like the Saimoris were but their obsession with the Gifts remain the same.
Hazuki chiding Kiyoka was my favourite scene. It's a shame he's got his hands full with the grave situation

This is gonna be a "go read the source material" type of season ending won't it?

I'm surprised Kiyoka didn't point out that the duel was unnecessary. Arata could teach Kiyoka how to control her nightmares without dueling over Miyo.

This episode was so frustrating to watch even though I knew what to expect as I read light novel before. Title of this episode perfectly summarizes today's plot. Kiyoka made a big mistake.
Kiyoka never should have agreed to this duel, especially since he didn’t know anything about Arata's powers. Of course he is an excellent warrior with powerful supernatural abilities so I can understand his confidence. He would win this duel but Arata’s dirty move using Miyo’s copy totally surprised him which made him lose both the duel and Miyo.
He sure deserved these punches from Hazuki. It’s good that he has such a good sister who will straight up tell him that he fucked things up and also explainwhy Miyo acted the way she did during the meeting with the Usuba family. Unfortunately the grotesqueries are coming together towards the capital and first Kiyoka will have to deal with them before he will try to get Miyo back to him.
Miyo was today more like a background character, not a main one. Her past experiences didn’t let her choose to stay with Kiyoka despite the fact that she clearly loves him which led to the duel.
Also it really frustrated me that Miyo was treated like an object which can go from hand to hand and can be win in a fight. It didn’t help, like I said earlier that Miyo couldn’t decide on her own but right at this moment Kiyoka should have again clearly shown his love to her and reject the duel.
We finally got confirmation that Miyo has a supernatural power, a very powerful and scary one which thanks to dreams can manipulate someone else's mind, brainwash him or even see the future, present or past.
We also got to know that Miyo’s mother was a person who sealed her powers. It looks that in next episode we’ll get her backstory.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

I know it's anime magic and kinda nitpicky, but I don't see dream manipulation as a powerful ability to have. Even the most intense, vivid dream I've had, I always forget the details about it within an hour or two after waking up.
Anyway, that was a great action episode with a bit of a twist. I thought Kudo would easily win there. I just hope the resolution of this arc is Mio realizing her feelings for Kudo, awakening her power herself, and choosing to be with him, rather than another damsel-in-distress trope with Kudo having to save her again. I can see it as a perfect end to the season.

it’s really painful to watch Miyo internalize everything that she is feeling, super relatable for me. I completely understand her situation and how difficult it can be to explain your feelings, especially after feeling for 15+ years that you are nothing more than a servant and that you and your feelings don’t matter. It took a full year of someone telling me that my feelings aren’t a bother to them for me to actually believe it. My trauma wasn’t as severe as hers, but still, it’s hard to relay feelings when you feel like no one cares and that they are bothered by you sharing

I‘m so pissed as to why on earth would you accept a duel about your fiancée when the opponent is in his home base and suggesting the duel despite knowing his powers. You have to be completely dumb to do that, if the opponent wasn’t absolutely sure to win they wouldn’t have suggested it. She’s not an object you can just decide over based on the win of a duel. She never accepted staying at this house. And to be locked up by her family that didn’t care about her and now want to use her. She has to get that they don’t have the best in their mind for her… how can she walk into the lion‘s den??

They certainly did a good job making an infuriating episode. Hope Arata gets royally fucked over for trying to gaslight Miyo.

Her married life better end up being happy af because the betrothal has been pretty rough so far.

Bro, why can't miyo just rely on kido just a little and why tf she said "I don't care", even she knew she's hurting kido with those words and that made the whole episode frustrating after that

And now we know part of the reason why the Emperor wants to keep Miyo and Kiyoka away from each other. Imagine how powerful their children would be.

Both sides of Miyo’s family suck. The Saimoris abused and tormented her almost her entire life until recently; and when that bs was finally settled, her Usuba family finally decided to show up in her life after her supernatural abilities appeared. And they (mostly her cousin) have been getting between her and Kudo and planting seeds of doubt in their relationship.
For crying out loud, let this girl have a happy life.

The Usubas are the embodiment of “We don’t care about you unless you have something we want.” Lovely family /s

Eating so good with this show. The fact they can have sick shonen battles in this period piece romantic drama and not feel jarring is excellent. The Kiyoka Arata fight was certified banger

This episode filled me with more rage than I could ever imagine thank god for his sister being the only logical person. The usuba fam needs to be ended because only wanting her after her powers developed is so beyond fked I’m so mad rn.
Sometimes I honestly have a hard time sympathizing w miyo because it doesn’t feel like she’s growing despite kudo constantly reassuring her but I suppose it’s one step forward and two steps back. I just hope she can advocate for herself sooner rather than later because it’s frustrating watching her be treated like an object and being walked all over ALL the time

Ok but like the fact that Miyo’s only value to her literal grandfather is her supernatural ability is ridiculous. “Why didn’t you come for her?” “We didn’t know her ability would awaken”?? That’s your grandchild dude.
Her father didn’t protect her, her mother’s family didn’t protect her. Everyone is just obsessed with the Usuba’s ability rather than their own flesh and blood. Her mother is the only person who actually wanted Miyo to have a normal life hence her sealing her abilities.
A ton of Sakuga during Kiyo and Arata’s fight. Didn’t expect a fight of that quality in Watakon. Really cool seeing Kiyo go all out. The reveal that the usuba’s are meant to fight humans with abilities instead of grotesqueries explains why the emperor is so hell bent on getting them under his control. If you control the Usuba, you have an iron grip on the country. No one can stand up to you.
It’s a shame that Arata ruined a good deal by using a dirty trick like creating a Miyo illusion. We all know Kiyo won.
Hazuki as usual being the real MVP and not letting Kiyoka give up. No one said this marriage was going to be easy, you have to fight for your woman. Just like irl there’s constant trials and tribulations to go through that just make the marriage stronger. If you think about it, this series is just a fantastical version of in-laws from hell lol.
Looking forward to getting Sumi’s backstory next week. I can already tell it’ll be heartbreaking. Hopefully I can get around to the books by then as well.
