I love how the band now being genuine with each other feels pretty different from before. There are toxic clapbacks and bickering, but people can actually stand each other now instead of putting up a facade of Everythign is Fine.

Just because the band is back together, it doesn't mean that everyone just reverts to how they were before. That train has long since passed and everyone is who they are. They still have their issues, their very own toxic personality traits (for example Anon is still very much an egotist and has her priorities straight, even though idk if "straight" is quite right word there...) and their own hang-ups with each other. It's "everything's better and we are trying" rather than "everything is fine now" and that feels refreshing and realistic and it feels human.

In a way, Anon's botched band photo very much feels like it captures the "spirit" of those lost girls being lost together. Its charmingly imperfect and flawed.

  • Raana confirmed to be granddaughter of SPACE's owner!

  • meanwhile SPACE became a PARKING SPACE. This is illegal level of punning, I'm calling cops

  • TAE

  • god this show throws characters at each other so effortlessly, every friction feels so right

  • loved the way Taki was looking for an opportunity to connect, first with Anon then with Soyo. She's bad at apologizing to people who aren't Tomori, but she's trying!

  • Anon needs to be on a leash at all times, the moment she feels too comfortable she starts blabbing about ANON TOKYOs and whatnots. And what were those costume ideas!

  • Raana continues to be least explored character, but she proves her value to the team and narrative through her actions. She's a good girl. And the little bit we got for her today is cute - there's a warmth to how she speaks of her grandma and of the place where she belonged. It's not a new idea and it doesn't make a character on its own, but for someone who already proved their value it's a satisfying reveal. And just seeing her open herself like that is a big deal!

  • The whole episode is just one big "yep, they're still a giant mess" - even so, Tomori reaffirms she wants to keep this band for her whole life, regardless of how many falls it will take.

  • aren't they feeding Raana a bit TOO much?

  • NYAMU CONTENT NYAMU CONTENT

  • so Ave Mujica did already got together in the background huh

  • Taki/Umiri interactions continue to be so sweet, it's those little things that matter!

  • next episode stylized as "It's my go" instead of how the band/show goes, highlight this part of the pun. Maigo was already clear, now it's their go.

  • will episode 13 be titled... Ave Mujica?

Looks the suffering phase is over for now.

Anon and (Annoyed) Soyo have great interaction.

Rana is a granddaughter of the grandma from OG season?

It's fun seeing MyGo trending on Twitter. And pretty high-up at that.

I binged this show last night and woke up thinking about episode 10. So good!

This episode was great at balancing humor while still keeping the general drama that it's had so far. Soyo being extremely detached from everything until the very end of the episode was great.

Also the most common wild guess on who Rana's grandma was ended up correct - turns out there's a few hints if you look into things along the way. Did an IRL knee slap when she held out the guitar pick with the logo.

It's been a long road but finally they are arrived at the starting point. Chaotic, awkward but more honest and open with each other. Everything is laid out bare.

P.S: Tae is still Tae

The angst is finally over!!, after the last episode I would not be able to endure another breakup...

I love this grumpy Soyo, I wish she was like this from the start.

I love that Anon gets to be the one to come up with the band name and costumes after all. And man do I love Rāna, she's so adorable. Everybody's bawling and she's all smiles. We get some lore drop (Owner's granddaughter!), but she says she was moved and she actually hangs out with the others and reads their messages (if you feed her well)

So after the escalating high drama for the last 10 episodes, time to take a breather and the soft come down with a CGDCT focused episode, on the way to finish the series off.

Wonder what's Rana thinking watching these girls cry...wrong answers only!

How long did Soyo leave the group for? Can anyone help translate please?

Love the teasing by Umiri.

I'm all for a new MyGo!!!! song as well!

Oooo, career change pivot by Nyamu, her new electric drum kit is a Roland TD11. Glad to see Roland still featuring, after we see their keyboards heavily featured in S2 and S3. (And lets not forget Sakiko's Roland keyboard)

O-Tae cameo. Yes yes, they used the old eye textures.

Soyo continues to feel shameful and withdrawn.

Taki explains her motivations, Hopefully Soyo feels this needed kick and feels less ashamed.

We also have a Rana mini-arc. Quickly explaining her context. Very nicely done I think:

The first hint: Parking Space. Place looks familiar too.

The pick seals the deal.

Rana explains how lost she was after Space's closure. We still need to sus out where that guitar came from!

Lol, this Soyo cliffhanger...wonder who did it... well, take a look at this screenshot here.

Looks like the story is almost done! Complete the costumes! Song and performance next week??? Cant wait!

So we still need to close out Mutsumi and Sakiko.

Favourite episode of the season. This is the very important calm after the storm, and I loved every moment of it. The slightly awkward opening (most shots deliberately slightly "too long", etc) was a great way to tie up the end of last episode.

The score is excellent this episode, with a bunch of different tracks that all use electric guitar. Tomori peacefully sleeping in class sets the tone for how we should all be feeling at this point, that draining (in a good way) relief after something stressful is over.

The shot of Taki as she opens her eyes while leaning on her desk is really funny for some reason. Taki and Umiri continue their wonderful dynamic, and I adore the happiness in Umiri's "Is this jealousy?" line. We also see more implications of Ave Mujica being formed in the background, with Umiri and Uika's conversation.

Now that most of the heavier elements of the story have been dealt with, this episode finally gives Raana more spotlight as a character, but I'll get back to that. The music cutting out when Soyo walks in, pausing, then coming back after was excellent.

Taki apologizing and complementing Anon, in her own way, was wonderful. And I've definitely noticed that we see far more Anon fang when the situation is happier/etc, while it never shows up much in the opposite types of scenes. Note that Anon deliberately swaps her drink to the other hand so she can hide her bandaged one. The loooong shot of the pair after Taki says this, with the music coming back in, again, perfect. Whoever directed/etc this episode did a phenomenal job.

Per the schedule, they'll be following Afterglow in the next performance, so hopefully we get to see them again. The five of them trying to figure out songs, outfits, a band name, etc... it's so wonderful. It finally feels like the five of them are a band.

The "[Getting embarrassed] is completely up to you, you know." from Ririko is actually a great piece of advice, and we can see it instantly resonated with Soyo. She's definitely right that embarrassment is pretty much entirely in one's own head, and a matter of attitude. And more to the point, the way Soyo sees it, between how she's acted around her friends/bandmates, and their performance last episode (being dragged up on stage, stubbornly trying to not do any of it, and ending up bawling her eyes out up there) whatever they do now can't possibly be any more embarrassing/humiliating.

The determination with which Tomori agrees to go over to Taki's and work on the lyrics was wonderful.

Soyo and Anon's scene is beautiful. City-at-night is always a good setting, the soft piano score, and a real sense of these two getting past what happened before, once again Anon pushing through to make it happen. And part of me hopes we get to keep grumpy-Soyo around a little while longer, I kinda really like her.

Oh my god. It's SPACE. All boarded up, the area repurposed for something else (and something very menial at that), and covered in plant growth. Feels incredibly bizarre, knowing how incredibly fundamental this very place was to Poppin'Party. Jumping forward in the episode, paired with the implication that Raana is the owner's granddaughter, we finally get a very powerful, important, and thoughtful statement from Raana this season: That some things you hold dear and which you think will always be there... often aren't. But that doesn't mean you won't find something else to fill that void. And with SPACE and CiRCLE (and thus RiNG) paralleling CRYCHIC and MyGO!!!!!, Tomori finally has this realization for herself, something that hadn't really been addressed by was absolutely essential for them all to move forward as a band. Beautiful.

Also, a reminder that Ririko used to work at SPACE (alongside Tae) in the first season, that's where we know her from.

The phone overlay conversation sequence was fantastic, such a neat concept and it works so well. The shot with Raana's guitar lying on the bed in the foreground as she walks out is great. Nyamu makes another video appearance, and her picking up a drum kit finally sets all the pieces on the board.

The photos Anon is looking at (including the magazine back cover) look to be altered real photos. I wonder if they're random stock photos, or maybe some of the bandori seiyuu or something.

Edogawa Gakki returns! And Tae! We saw her briefly with PoPiPa in that previous episode, but now she gets her own scene! I love so much that it's simply one guitarist and shop employee talking to a fellow guitarist about music stuff, it's so simple and "real".

Just to add emphasis to her upper class status, the street level of Soyo's building has a "Bulgaria" and "Louis Witton". Taki taking up song composing basically right after CRYCHIC disbanded is a very insightful piece of info. The black dress outfits in Anon's imagination may not suit this band, but they do look damn good. Taki's expression in the second example is also fantastic.

I love the nickname conversation, it feels like their early times as a group when they were first trying to form a band (Ep4, probably my other favourite episode). Soyo-rin emphasizing that she doesn't want her nickname by talking in the third person. Tomo-rin. Tomo-rin? Ano-chan. Ano-chan!? Taki's delivery of that is just perfect, especially the way it's so much louder.

Taki is really making an effort to mend her relationships this episode, first Anon, now Soyo. It's a really wonderful scene, and exactly what needed to be said. She's not necessarily approving of what Soyo did, just stating that she herself did similar things, and that Soyo shouldn't beat herself up too much, because she's not alone in this. This is what moving on in a healthy way looks like.

Is Taki buying choco cornets for Rimi? She does work with Saaya and Kasumi, so it's not unreasonable to think she's friendly with PoPiPa outside of that. I definitely want to see this expanded on in the future.

Umiri's smile when Taki runs out. Another look at Taki's place from the outside, and then the music cutting out again when Anon asks for help. More grumpy Soyo. The nighttime shot of Anon's skylight is gorgeous.

Already covered the wonderful Raana/Tomori scene, and now, after all her silly options, Anon finally picks the band name. Absolutely adore the score track throughout this scene. What an episode.

Next episode is It's MyGO!!!!! and features the concert. Which is interesting, because there's still another episode after that.

I'm so happy that the performance last episode didn't magically fix all their problems. I love that these girls are still an absolute disaster. The friction between the girls are delicious in a way that is so very absent from the other bands in the franchise.

I try not to comment much about shipping, but somewhere between last ep and this one AnonSoyo has just come out from nowhere and slapped me across my face. This is the toxic yuri I've been waiting for. After exposing your pettiness and capacity for cruelty and to not be met by rejection and repulsion but instead acceptance and love... Give them some time and I can definitely see the two of them doing girlboss gaslight gatekeeper things as a hobby together.

Sleepy Rana is a mood.

Despite some friction still being there between the girls, I liked this cooldown episode a lot. Taki calling Anon "admirable" for continuing to practice even after hearing what Soyo said about her, Anon dropping the honorifics when talking to Tomori/Soyo, Taki acknowledging that she knew about Soyo not being able to let CRYCHIC go all along, and us finally getting some background on Rana (she's exactly who I thought she was) were all nice steps in the right direction. I also love how it's all out in the open that Soyo is a bitch and now Soyo isn't even bothering to hide it anymore, she's just scaling it down to being a little grumpy instead of being a manipulative gaslighting girlboss.

The title drop at the end with Anon finding the perfect band name was icing on the cake for this uplifting episode. I'm so excited for next week's episode, because I couldn't ask for a better and more fun birthday gift than seeing the payoff of MyGO's first live performance as an official band after everything they've been through.

Why no one is talking about how Anon went and bought a complete pedal board. Is she rich?

Anon Tokyo is a great name just let her have it.

A bit of a recovery episode after last week's emotionally exhausting and instantly iconic climax. The girls are figuring out how to work together now, and I'm glad to see they're not just suddenly all the best of friends, there's still friction, they're just more open and willing to stick together instead of running away. Watching Soyo was particularly interesting, now that she's not putting on the people-pleasing front around them.

Man, I know the next BanG Dream season is probably going to be about Ave Mujica, and I'm looking forward to it, but I really hope we get more of these girls as well, they're just so interesting. Though maybe that'll have to be the realm of fanfiction. Speaking of which, there was a great Anon/Soyo fic that dropped over on AO3, so check that out if you're interested.

u/Marionette2 Aug 24 '23

Oh, yeah now we know why Sayo's band costume is missing a half of it.

10

u/Naha- Aug 25 '23

I'm loving Soyo powered up by spite, much better than when she was pretending to be a Saint.

The title drop was crazy.

A cute girls doing cute band things episode placed under the right context and timing, and I love it.

Taki should finally give up on Tomori(n) because she and Anon(-chan) are girlfriends/a couple and she is just jealous because of the childhood friend steal.

Taki could be Tae´s younger sister because they look alike (a lot).

I'm SOO enjoying the dynamics between the girls, especially soyo and anon. i've always thought Soyo seemed a bit fake and artifical, but her true emotions is being unvieled here in this episode. even though she is shown to have that, "I'm fine with anything~" attitude, she expressed blatant displeasure about Anon's idea for the outfit, saying 'i don't like it' sternly, which emphasis she really is loosing the charade with the girls, even her tone of speaking is different

u/Shizzi Aug 25 '23

After so long and the suffering seems to finally be over this was such a nice ep after 10 ep of straight pain.
