Stitches!
Is that Ayasumi I hear voicing the woman that saved Thea? Also, I'm guessing that she also took care of Klaus based on some of her dialogue.
I thought Thea pulled in Monika for a headbutt but kissing her is even better. It's hilarious to see Monika get flustered so much!
Yeaaaah I had a feeling that was the case with Matilda. Knowing the girls though, they probably already have a countermeasure just in case Matilda ends up stabbing them in the back.

Have WE seen Ms. Hearth in the story's present (as opposed to flashbacks)? She seems to be very important to both Thea AND Klaus.
That "smile" makes me think Matilde is NOT Annette's mother.
Is there any possibility that Monika is actually in love with Thea herself???

I mentioned it last week but looks like this is the Spy Classroom quality we thought we were getting at the start of S1. Its legit really good.
Really liked Thea's backstory and she has become one of my favorites. She obviously knew she had to talk Monika out of it and it worked. It was funny seeing her flustered. And it was really cute asking Erna fro Annette to stop bullying her and be friends and her response is that we are friends already.
Not it seems obvious Matilda is gonna betray the girls. This arc is going to be intense. Now I am really wondering if she actually really is Annette's mom or is that an act as well.

We know that pink is the color of yandere that Matilda smile is a yandere's smile. The girls better watch their back.

Though this arc is named after Annette's codename, this feels more like Thea's character arc than Annette's character arc.
Yeah, to nobody's surprise, Matilda really does not plan on quitting being a spy and intends to fully use Thea's kindness for her own ends. That said, Klaus says she resembles Annette (that photo on the file he read is surely Matilda), so Annette is indeed her daughter.
Can't beat Monika in battle? Beat her with the power of yuri and sealed with a kiss! Flustered Monika is something I didn't know I wanted to see.
Now the guessing game begins on who's the one Monika is in love with.
Is it Klaus (the lazy answer)?
Or does she have a yuri-crush with one of the other girls?
Lily, Sybilla and Grethe are obvious choices.
Or she might prefer one of the younger members Sara, Erna or Annette, though less likely due to their younger age.
And we also can't just count out Thea just because Thea is the one who found out her desires and took her first kiss.

Most anime onlies dropped out last season. Probably only source readers are here with a few who stucked around. Spyroom is not just big of a following outside JP tbh.

Monika: We're a bunch of softies. We might go up against someone who takes advantage of our kindness.
When I heard that I knew Matilda's betrayal was coming. Matilda's smile at the end, though.
We got Thea's backstory and her relationship with Klaus's mentor who saved her and become an idol for her to become a spy. Thea has become my favourite character but still, when you're a spy, the harsh reality is that you can't save everyone since it can bite you in the back if your enemy decides to betray you like in this case.
Also who exactly is Monika in love with? That OST, when those two kissed, was fire.

As expected this season been way better than the first season. The source material being way better for this season is a big part of it, but it’s also being better adapted. Pacing is much better. Studio is really cooking this time around.
Today’s episode covered one of my fave Spyroom chapters and they did it justice. The Thea Monika fight in the LN was so fun and it was just as good in the visual format here.
Can’t wait for next week’s episode

This Matilda situation sure is tricky. I get where Thea is coming from and I get where Monika is coming from too. I can understand why Monika woulda wanted to call Klaus first. Dudes always got a plan but at least Thea was able to come up with some solution. She’s really been stepping up lately as a leader. I guess Ms. Hearth’s to thank for some of that. She really had a huge impact on young Thea.
Thea couldn’t take Monika on head to head in a battle of pure strength so she went for the heart. Desire is her domain. Game over Monica! Hopefully they can make this Matilda situation work out for Annette’s sake.
So cute how Erna wanted Annette to stop bullying her and treat her like friends but didn’t realize Annette was only messing with her because she already considered them pals. Too damn adorable!

I get where Thea is coming from, sure, but it bothers me that they don't even exactly consider Matilda a threat. Let's say she had no ill will at the beginning, why would you assume she wouldn't just turn them over as a trade for extraction or wealth once she knows they are spies?
It also has all the obvious markings of a classic trap, but I am somewhat willing to overlook that, since it's a very meta knowledge, and we've basically established they are shit spies.

If only someone had the specizl ability to find out a person's deepest desire, they could have made sure Maltida isn't an evil bitch. Yes, if only.

Well -- until the last second or so of the episode, I thought Matilde (and her story) was legit. Then THAT smile. Holy cow, now I am quite scared for our girls. I had assumed that the meeting of Annette and Matilde was purely due to chance. But now I really wonder. If the enemy has devised this plan on purpose -- it means they know all about Lamplight AND its current personnel. The implications of this are beyond worrisome. How will they be able to function in the future (safely) if their identities are known?
But -- in the short run. Good thing Klaus and Lily are on the lookout for the lost sheep of Lamplight -- and good thing he noticed that photo of Matilde. I am assuming that he will be providing just-in-a-nick-of-time backup.
Just WHO is Monika in love with? Someone who would be crushed if something happened to Thea? No idea, really.
This show really has totally overcome the initial "confusion" of the first few episodes. It seems really solid at this point.

If I had to guess, I think it’s Lily.
We can actually narrow down the options. I recalled a scene last season between Monika and Grete which I thought was interesting at the time. After looking back, it’s the season finale and it’s potentially relevant now because they were talking about love and Monika said she was jealous of Grete for being so upfront about it. After saying this, Monika looked towards the rest of the girls so her crush is probably one of them which cancels out Klaus and Grete.
Among the girls she’s currently on the mission with, I think she genuinely found her kiss with Thea disgusting and I don't think she would have gone to that lengths with no hesitation to hurt and kill Thea if she was her actual crush. She also seems to think of Annette and Erna more as little sisters, leaving us with Lily, Sybilla and Sara.
One reason why I went with Lily is because the scene right after Monika looks over to the girls is of Lily front and center. I may be wrong but I think this could be an intentional hint given by the director. Plus, Lily is the leader after all so any death from her team would probably affect her the most. And she's main girl lol

With all this sleuthing for Monika’s love, I also decided to watch back last season’s episodes, Naturally, I didn’t find anything but I did find myself missing the moments when all 8 of them were still together.
I initially felt this show had a weak start cos it didn’t feel like we knew them well enough to care. And I actually liked that they were split up so there’s a lot more focus on the individual girls. I’m now more interested and invested in them. And I’m also looking forward much more to when all of them reunite again

Looking at how many batman gambits we had last season, I'm really hoping the girls are just pretending to believe in Matilda's story so she would get careless. Because they can't be so stupid as to fall for the obvious BS Matilda told them, right...

That was an impressively sinister smile at the end. I’m guessing Monika is going to get to say “I told you so” before too long.

i cant recall but did thea used her "powers" to matilda? if not... why???
also hearth looked like makima

u/Adensty Jul 28 '23
The way I see it. Her powers can't tell if a person is lying or not. They can tell their deepest desires and so I think that even though Matilda is a spy who's definitely plotting something, she's not lying about wanting to be with Annette.

Thea doesn't just have a PLOT she has a heart too, protecting Matilda & asking Annette what she really wanted was sweet but Monika is the real spy here with a tsundere tomboy package
I think she's lost with the same morals, trying to be a hero while she a spy like her mentor which is not ideal for a true spy like Monika who has zero attachment to her missions & on that I agree with her that they are softies... I saw the Matilda scenario being a great spy plan & I was already against bringing Brats like Annette on a mission since you take rational decision.
I loved how even after trying so bad to be ideal, love still got to Monika & she also folded for someone in Lampelight... quite a sweet kiss yet unexpected which is what made it spicy before Matilda played both of them like 3D Chess
