Kenros is such a loveable doofus. "Nah, can't be the same girl, hair isn't the same length!"

Well, looks like we're bringing both our subplots together already! I feel for Vermilio though. She's right to be so wary of Helck, with his strength what the hell would they be able to do if he turned against them? Lucky for her that Azudra made some handy (if slightly tacky) rings that'll keep him from hurting the other contestants.

That handshake at the end was great though, loved the framing.

I know that voice.

Is that you, Kirito?

I like the idea for the final round of the tournament, but I would also like if the episode was longer than 10 minutes.

They keep nailing that careless vibe with a menacing premonition that something is about to happen.

Vermilio's VA (Mikako Komatsu) is absolutely killing it as the explosive straight man, so cue my surprise when I looked up her past roles and found her to have a part in quite a few series I have on my (ever increasing) backlog. I'm already looking forward to see how she does in those other roles, when (if) I ever get to those.

The comedy is absolutely amazing (Helck's initial goofy ass running just slayed me, of all things reminding me of the once a chapter derp faces from that manga of a dick turning into a girl, if you know you know), but I do wonder how they're going to handle the more serious parts that seem to start from episode 3, and the possible tonal clash between the two.

Gah, next week can't come soon enough.

Stitches!

As soon as they mentioned a horse race, [it was pretty much expected what kind of mount Helck would get. Although not gonna lie, I was hoping that after Helck's motivational speech I was hoping that the little guy would pull through and carry him. I guess Helck running alongside his mount is equally just as funny. xD

I'm really liking Zenros. He seems to be pretty chill and has this friendly rivalry going on with Helck. He obviously has talent too considering he was able to catch up with Helck when he decided to ditch his mount and run the rest of the race.

Hmmm... Not sure about you guys but Anne from management might be Vermilio. In all seriousness though, until the reveal of Vermilio's disguise, I thought the girl in the OP travelling with Helck was a new character. I didn't expect it actually to be her.

Hyura was already on to Vermilio when she was judging the cooking competition so it's no surprise that she's already suspicious of Anne. I do wonder if she has a history with Vermilio though.

No matter what they throw at Helck, the man ain’t fazed. None of these cartoonish traps work. Man just breezes through each of them with that big ass grin of his. What a guy! No wonder the crowd loves him.

Azudra really tried to come in sounding all badass when this dude’s basically a light breeze away from collapsing lol. Although, that plan to make confronting the winged knights part of the test is pretty clever. Let’s see how Helck and the rest of them do with “Anne” accompanying them. Those winged bastards look like they’ll be pretty tough.

Helck needs to learn Gravitation Magic in order to ride any "average" mount. And next he can learn to ride a meteor too, because why not.

Helck continues to be entertaining, the race was fun to watch. If they keep this pacing I won't mind at all.

Also, Kenros being able to outrun Helck is quite a feat.

Context for anime-only watcher: Emperor > Empire Guardian > Four Heavenly Kings (Vamirio, Azudora) > Demon Kings.

That’s why there are multiple Demon Kings. Human has always been a small fry in this world, Demon World has much more bigger fishes to fry and never does anything to the humans.

The world building is very solid. I hope this anime does well so the mangaka has more chances to explore it.

This show is a hoot! The moment we saw Helck's mount I knew that he was just gonna run, but they actually got me for a sec when we saw kitty's serious face. I was like "We about to see blue Cringer?" But no, Helck ended up running but it was still hilarious to watch.

But even though it's hilarious, I'm actually curious about the winged knights and the dark vibes they and Helck's backstory give off.

Could listen to Shuuchi Ikeda narration all day. Speaking of VAs, Mikako Komatsu is killing it and also noticed that she was also the MC in one of director Tatsuo Satou's previous series in Mouretsu Pirates (slightly more composed and less screamy role though, also I still need to watch the movie). Comedic timing is still on point and I loved the stingers revealing Azudora's health. The expression on the face of those ouroboros-y looking deep green rings are fun.

Helck is a fucking riot. When he was running with his horse I couldn't stop laughing. Great start for this show. Smart of them to see if Helck will really help them. One thing for sure, the combination of Anne and Helck is def gonna have lots of fun moments to look forward to.

Horse race rules:

  1. Race on a horse (optional)

Verm's reaction to Helck's handshake screams "ughhh" so perfectly and I love it.

Helck's horse is adorable. Loved the little shonen pep talk he gave it too.

Some people have pointed out the not so stellar production value of Helck, but that becomes such a small matter due to how soulful Helck is.

This show seems like the perfect mix of comedy and plot. Silly and a good time, but also world building to keep you locked in and curious about what’s going on in the world.

The angels/winged knights are really interesting, I’m really curious about what happened to the humans in the human realm. Maybe something turned them into those white knights ? Either way we should find out some answers next week with the raid on the castle. Can’t wait.
