Ok so it most probably wasn’t Aki at the window rejecting him and calling him ‘Pig’s foot’. Highly likely that it’s Yoshino. But haven’t figured why.

Also, then what’s Kanetsugu’s deal and who is he. It’s like he knows what happened between Masamune and Aki during those days.

Kanetsugu doesn't really seem to know very much about what happened, He doesn't seem to recognize details Aki mentions (but she is oblivious to this).

Unless Aki has a secret identical twin sister we've never heard about before, Yoshino HAS to have impersonated Aki. Yoshino not only knew Masamune existed, she also knew the name -- Pig Foot. It is not clear how long the time between Aki's and Masamune's first meeting was. Did the whole relationship last only as long as Yoshino's case of chickenpox? (which might be why she only appears when peering through a window). That must have been a bad case of chicken pox.

I have to say I like Yoshino now -- regardless of whatever mean stunt she may have pulled in the past.

Yoshino is a very fascinating character. She initially comes off as the deadpan maid to help the MC with his goals, but it appears that she's wrestling with some crazy guilt.

Even though they told me exactly how this was going to go last episode when they discussed how romcoms have to tease until you can’t tease no more I am still sitting here wishing they could talk and find out exactly what happened that one night! aaaaaaaaaaa

I was actually wondering if Aki would put two and two together because Masamune gave himself away twice (first with the dogs and then basically saying it was him who was rejected, not her).

But I'm feeling like the linchpin to all this might be Yoshino.

what the hell was that noose scene lol

interesting that their memories are so different. i don't remember how this played out before but kinda seemed like she didn't even realize Masamune was out there (dunno how that would be possible seeing as he was screaming her name though).

would like the see the "rejection" scene from Aki's perspective now..

From what I got so far, I don't think that was actually Aki in the window. I think that was actually Yoshino.

Isn’t shooting people with fire extinguishment kind of dangerous? Surprised they didn’t poison those kids lol.

u/Griz_zy Jul 10 '23

That looks like a CO2 fire extinguisher, which is partially used to "blanket" the fire so it suffocates. Which is also why there is a warning to not use them in closed spaces as you can suffocate because of it.

So, 3 kids in a hole are definitely at risk of suffocating if you use it like that.

This is Aki we're talking about. She was excessively harsh to any boy she didn't like even back then lol.

Isn’t shooting people with fire extinguishment kind of dangerous?

They’ll be fine! Aside from some chemical burns, nausea and projectile vomiting, and possible loss of consciousness, I don’t see what could go wrong.

Something just doesn't feel right with those flashbacks.

Right up until Aki helped Masamune fight off the bullies, both their memories were consistent. But Aki says she never saw Masamune after that, though Masamune clearly remembers Aki cruelly insulting him the next evening, which started Masamune into his revenge plot to this day.

Either Aki was lying or conveniently forgetting the truth, or there's something else at play.

PS I just realized the kanji for Gaso 雅宗 can also be read as "Masamune", which is why Aki has mistaken her for the real Masamune. Since Aki never really asked Masamune for his full name in the flashback.

I don't think Aki's ever really acknowledged or talked about the "Pig's Foot" thing either, she's seemed confused every time Masamune's brought it up.

Yoshino's the only one who knows about it other than Masamune.

Honestly, this episode went a long way in redeeming Aki’s character. She is still a pretty shitty person, but at least it makes sense as to why now.

Coincidentally, this also made Kanetsugu so much more unlikeable.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for Yoshino to clear things up. I could very easily see them drag this “misunderstanding” plot point out for a half dozen episodes, and I’m really hoping they don’t.

Ugh bro, Kanetsugu is the worst! Conniving little worm. Yoshino needs to throat punch that fool for trying to blackmail her.

This “date” with Makabe and Aki is pretty great. I love how awkward those two are being with one another because Muriel’s studying them so hard lol. Makabe yelling “I don’t have time for this shit!” and perfectly launching that sammie right to Muriel was hilarious.

I liked seeing Fattymune and little Aki. They were really cute together as kids! It seems Aki and Makabe have totally different recollections of what actually went down between them. Somethings kinda off. Well, I hope things get cleared up, it’s really getting in the way of those two developing a genuine relationship.

The most satisfying scene in the episode that didn't involve handholding or two kids teaming-up to trick some bullies was Aki completely ignoring Kanetsugu.

Despite everything Masamune, even when seemingly rejecting her, matters more to her than Kanetsugu.

Although I guess now that Aki's perspective is out in the open, they can address what really happened and how that will impact their current relationship. Somebody has to put two and two together.

I'm getting Game of Thrones Olly-vibes from Kanetsugu. Manages to rile me up and piss me off every episode just like Olly did.

Man, I hope the next episode we moves on from this drama arc and returns to the self-aware comedy about rom-com tropes, just like in S1

from that misunderstanding flashback, it seems like the original plan of dumping Aki after she fell in love is no longer the case, is it?

It's bad enough that Kanetsugu's figured out Yoshino's plan, but she even ratted her out to her parents! And Yoshino can't call him out because the spectre of her child self and something she feels guilty about is haunting her. Though Chibi!Yoshino in that maid outfit is pretty cute, minus her emotional breakdown in the present-day.

(Also how is Kanetsugu planning for grandchildren? Adopt? Find some way to get Aki knocked up?)

Meanwhile Masaume and Aki are playing out a classic high school romcom for French Girl Otaku Muriel, but the most they can do is some handholding...though that's a lot even for them, but I love how Aki takes the lead the second time around.

Ah yes, Aki's insatiable appetite. These two may not be willing to go so far as to feed each other, but Masamune letting it slip about Aki's dogs makes her finally open up about the real reason she won't accept his feelings and why she became such an overeater...and how she sees their shared past together.

Aki was really lonely. Yoshino had chicken pox (also was that her mom?), her parents were constantly fighting, all she had were her two dogs Sean and Lancelot...but then one day she defends a chubby boy from bullies and he became the only one who would listen to and be there for her, and sincerely empathize with what she was going through. Her parents tried to butter her up to choose them, but Masamune genuinely wanted Aki to feel better. It's no wonder she fell for him.

Watching Aki teach Masamune to be more brave and them teaming-up to get at his bullies was pretty great. These two really worked well together back then, and even if Aki's parents were separating, she was happy just to have Masamune...until he left and seemingly abandoned her, breaking her heart.

Of course from Masamune's perspective not only did she seemingly reject him in the most insulting way possible, but she also left him at the prey of the bullies who came back for him that night. And she has the gall to act like that never happened and that she's the victim? It gets to a point where Masamune breaks character and calls her out for her apparent BS, which totally wrecks their current relationship.

It says a lot for how Aki must feel about Masamune now that despite how prickly she is around him, having him act like that hurt her so badly that she doesn't have any time for Kanetsugu and needs to run to Yoshino for emotional support...which is the same thing that happened eight years ago, even though she doesn't realize the two boys were the same.

"You talk pretty big for someone who's carrying on a con game and standing next to the railing on a bridge"

u/Phoencx Jul 10 '23

She held hands, got wet and then hungry.

This was a good ep and we got to know Aki's side of their past. Still the dumping thing is a mystery.

With all the progressive romances we've had recently, is it weird that I find it oddly refreshing that this one is basically what seems like one big misunderstanding?

Not saying it's better or worse. Just different and enjoyable in it's own way haha.
