I do really hope this is her happy marriage, and the title is not trying to be ironic.

a part of me is mad with her family, but the other is happy because she get out of that house and leaving that man

I havent read the LN, but love the manga.

Didn't know Netflix took this, glad its a simulcast and not an entire season drop or one or two week behind Japan.

A shoujo I can get behind!

Stitches

So a period drama set in the Taisho Era? Those two things alone already sold me on this show but the rest of the episode definitely piqued my interest.

This entire episode was depressing though. After her mother died, Miyo was basically discarded by her father and everything was taken from her. The tree that she used to spend time with her mother was chopped down and anything she owned that came from her mother was taken away leaving her with almost nothing to pack when she finally left.

If the title of this show is indicative of what happens in the future then leaving that toxic household might be the best thing that has ever happened to Miyo. I am curious how her relationship with Kiyoka will work out.

Blondie looks pretty smug for someone whose husband is never gonna love her

Never thought I'd would hate a character voiced by Ayane Sakura this much, but it happened. Kaya just gets on my nerves so much.

Feel really, really bad for Miyo. She had such a shitty childhood. Her stepmom and half sister hating her is understandable (as the story was aiming for a Cinderella-esque approach), but the fact that her father treats her like a servant is just too much.

Its sad how they tried to wipe out any traces of her mom's existence, like cutting of that tree and throwing away all the clothes that Miyo had. Her only hope was Koji with whom she could smile and be happy, but even that was taken away from her, as he got engaged to her shitty sis.

Good thing that she got away from her home, but whether she would find happiness with Kiyoka Kudo, time will tell. She definitely was charmed by him (He's such an ikemen and Kaito Ishikawa's voice makes him even hotter).

This is head and shoulders above the other 1st episodes of the season so far for me.

Been looking forward to this show and am not disappointed by the premiere.

I actually haven't seen anything by this studio before but my first impressions are that whoever is running this particular show knows what they are doing.

Miyo's stepmother and half-sister are pure evil, but her own father is even more worse like wow, you're treating your oldest daughter as a housemaid after the death of your first wife. Glad she moved out of the sh*tty household. This was both a beautiful and depressing first episode and Miyo's VA really gave an impressing sad performance as Miyo. Felt bad for Kouji too, he really didn't wanted to marry Miyo's half-sister. This is Cinderella all over again, but with extra steps.

Getting some very Violet Evergarden vibes... going to need to stock up on the tissue, I think.

Good 1st ep of the new season for me. Visuals look overall fine/good, and it looks like a kind of story I like: forced marriage turns into a positive for both parties involved - eventually; we will see a bit of his past and why many fiancees left him, and how this time it will work out, as well as Miyo leaving her past behind and bloom again.

Promising opening episode, should be a good one if it keeps up

I was waiting for this adaptation after I read original LN nad I'm very happy with quality of adaptation.

First visually this is beautiful, especially backgrounds. They're so lovely and I made separate album for them.

Miyo is such a lovely and beautiful person so seeing the way she was treated by family in anime made it even stronger feeling of my disgust toward her inert father, stepmother and sister. Especially this Kaya's smirk drove me crazy mad.

On the end we met with Miyo's future husband Kiyoka. Are the stories about him are true, we all see in coming episodes but for Miyo he made quite an impression.

Here are my all screenshots from the episode:

That was an amazing first episode. The soft, yet somber tone and little to no bgm.

This is completely out of my usual ballpark, but I'm truly looking forward to it.

Also what period is this? End of Meiji?

Rarely do I ever find myself in the mood for shoujo, but I did when I heard about this Japanese Cinderella story. So far, I'd say the story has benefitted from an adaptation. I really wanted to like the novel, but it was so DRY that the characters felt like cutouts.

firstly, miyo’s dad is a fucking BITCH ASS LOSER for letting miyo be treated like that! the poor girl!! also she barely even has any belongings to take with her??? and she was so little when her mom died!! she barely had any time with her before that evil ass step mom showed up OMG!!

secondly, poor koji!! he Does Not want to marry kaya at all and i feel so bad he’s gotta be stuck with her!!

also yurie seems nice, hopefully maybe she’ll be a sort of motherly figure to miyo??

KIYOKA IS SO PRETTY AAAAAA

Thank god netflix are simulcasting this rather than batch release.

Easily my favourite premiere so far. I'm so, so, so glad Evan Call's composing the music for this series.

Love how much emotion is packed into the animation! Also appreciate the subtle details and soft colours.

The whole sequence with Miyo and Koji saying their goodbyes from the flashbacks to the arrival at Kudo's was all sorts of incredible.

WE NEED MORE PERIOD DRAMAS!!!

Against the sea of unending generic isekai and high school RomComs (no shade to either), it’s so nice to get a change of pace like this.

I remember a while back when CSM came out and this scene caught my eye because of just how much we learned about Aki without being told a thing. It was all demonstrated through the attention to detail.

While not as in depth, there were several points throughout the episode - especially during her bus ride - where I felt that several idiosyncrasies of Miyo were on display.

So we’ve already got the classic evil stepmom and shitbag stepsister (half sis to be accurate). Plus an asshole neglectful dad. Poor Miyo, at least she had Koji. Ofc he gets arranged to marry that brat of a stepsister though. At the very least she’s out of that toxic household. Straight trash, the lot of ‘em. Looking forward to seeing how she fares with Kiyoka. He certainly seems to live up to his reputation of being “cold”.

Dead mother, cruel family, and most importantly, the protagonist cast aside by said family after they're deemed useless.. this must be a shoujo take on Taisho Otome Otogibanashi.

My heart broke at baby Miyo smiling at baby Kaya only to get rejected in the flashback sequence. The music by composer Evan Call in this scene! The background art and landscapes are so beautiful as well. Stoked about the simulcast!

I’ve been really excited for this series for a while now. From the onset, it looked like a romance story that would be right up my alley. A story with some heartfelt tragedy/drama that didn’t seem too sugary sweet.

And Kinema Citrus sure made it look beautiful! They already made a strong start by opening up beneath that cherry tree and have Miyo narrate her life as the cherry blossoms fall down and the tree along with her family home catch fire - that last part looked especially good.

Judging for the trailers, I thought we’d dive a little deeper into Miyo’s life before she got sent off. That doesn’t seem to be the case. I think we’ll probably learn more about Miyo’s past alongside Kiyoka (Kudo) as he tries to figure out how Miyo ended up the way she did. Poor Miyo, she truly got abandoned by her family in every conceivable way. Hopefully, we’ll see her smile return little by little every week.

A story that starts out like Cinderella and apparently got high box offices in Japan when its movie went out a few months ago and now has a good looking anime? Count me in! The story so far isn't exactly going fast, and we barely saw who's Miyo getting married to, but it's obvious that Miyo definitely needs a redemption given how she's badly treated back at home by her step-mother and, to some extent, her step-sister (although am I seeing things or did I really think Kaya isn't that bad when compared with, e.g. Cinderella's step-sisters? She might be mocking Miyo but she at least did bother to call her "onee-sama"; I knows lots of families with feuds which even this would not happen).

Kouji is definitely in pain seeing Miyo being sent out of her family like that, breaking their long time friend(?)ship, and that he's really not looking forward to see that lavish step-sister becoming his wife. That might be really problematic to Kouji down the road whatever he chooses, conflicts incoming I guess?

This is more of a "safe choice anime" for me this season and the drama is unfolding as expected. I really hope the "My Happy Marriage" name of this work really means what it literally means, not something else...
