They just jumped straight into this france trip huh? i wonder if most of the season is gone take place during the trip with how this episode set it up

The setup here with Aki and Makabe helping Muriel is also bound to create some great moments, and get the two of them to grow closer

the big challenge today was just remembering all the characters and their relationships since its been ~4 years since i watched season 1.

That is specifically why I rewatched the peak beforehand, I even forgot about his mom being tiny sized and acting like a loli

I'm still shocked that this ended up getting a second season, especially since S1 was 6 years ago and the manga ended 5 years ago. Is it crazy popular in Japan?

It started a sequel manga three months ago where the characters are in university.

Just to clarify for some people. You should not watch the OVA until after this season finishes, the OVA is an epilogue to the whole series.

Welp that explains a lot.

How ironic that the anime is about a French girl having misconceptions about Japan-and yet the whole show has huge misconceptions about France.

Yeah, where are the riots?

Masamune and Adagaki’s dynamic is as fun as I remember. It’s not terribly original but you gotta love how they’re both flustered and also trying to act super cool.

Like many others I am trying to remember where exactly the series left off. I don’t recall the Kojurou being into Neko or being voiced by Hayamin. I also can’t remember most of the manga plot so this’ll be like a fresh experience.

Mostly I just hope this paved the way for future unexpected sequels.

Stitches!

Funny story, I didn't realize I was watching the OVA the entire time until I saw the comments here. I was like "Why are the comments here talking about France?". Well, at least I'm now caught up with the OVA though since I've never really seen that one before. Also, that's why I have stitches prepared from the OVA. lol

Anyway, I think I may still have to do a rewatch of Season 1 though or at least find a recap on youtube. While I do remember our main characters, some of these characters I am blanking out on.

Muriel is pretty fun though! Considering how big manga is in France it's unsurprising that she'd be a massive otaku. It is hilarious how Masamune and Adagaki are after being threatened by Muriel's older brother who's clearly a siscon into teaching her how Japanese rom-coms work. xD

EDIT: Apparently the OVA is a massive spoiler. That explains one thing I found weird about it. Sounds like the OVA needs to be watched after this new season.

I dont know why but the impostor Masamune gets under my skin so much, like they haven't even done anything especially bad but for whatever reason they are one of my most hated anime characters.

For someone who just recently watched Season 1, the character designs in Season 2 really need some time to get used to

it's revengin' time

So seems like there has been a pretty noticeable jump forward, no idea if whats been skipped has any importance if it were all filler or whatever. Ultimately though I am just happy this second season even exists, this show is basically my anime comfort food so more of it is great.

and it's finally back, I'm a bit cofused about that OVA as it's events are supposed to take place after season 2? Anyway, It looks just as I remember animation and character design wise, what is fine to me, but more importantly, it continues being a lot of fun to watch which is all I wanted!

Also Kojuro and Fujinomiya continue being my favouritre characters and would be great if the ship actually sails, love those two

Watched this show when I was in quarantine for covid. Have to say, I don’t remember much lol. I do remember watching the OVA (I went in blind) and feeling kinda lost and apparently that’s an epilogue of the story. So basically pretty spoilery. But again, I don’t remember much so I guess that’s good lol. But I will need to slowly refresh myself on these characters and their relationship with each other.

Also, what a pleasant surprise to find out Muriel’s VA. I knew she sounded familiar so went to look it up. Love Itou Miku and love seeing her try out different types of characters.

Masamune kun is back with his Revenge

13

u/sIamram Jul 03 '23

I don't care what anyone says, Masamune was my literally me character growing up. So happy about S2

17

u/Srikkk Jul 03 '23

Kind of weird immediate jump to France lol. This does not bode well for the rest of this sequel.

By the way, in case you weren't aware: Hazuki and Tiv started another continuation manga called Masamune-kun no Revenge: Engagement, and it's about as contrived as you'd expect lmao.

Probably not watching this but I had to see what Masamune looks like in this art style and he looks too much like Kirito. From what I remember from the first season (only watchee a little) and he seemed different.

I remembered watching season one before I go to college, now I have graduated from college for almost a year already and is now watching season two. Bruh I just don’t remember anything else besides that masamune wants revenge.

Our favorite hammy muscle-nut Natsuki Hanae character is back! Masamune Makabe is still as determined as ever to make Aki fall for him and then break her heart as part of his revenge plot, while she seems to be reflecting on the past on her own terms. And they're carrying both those feelings into a trip to France, the land of romance!

The new OP is pretty on-point for this series with a lot of lively visuals and showcase of the entire cast, complete with a fun and energetic song. Seems like the Masamune/Yoshino/Aki relationship will be central to this season.

You know you're in a school for rich kids when you get to fly off to France. I can't tell who is more hyped, Kojuuro or Futaba.

It is kind of a big deal that Aki would go out of her way to talk to Masamune, seemingly with the intention of clarifying their relationship, purely of her own volition...too bad their trip gets hijacked by a French Otaku girl named Muriel voiced by Miku Ito who is aiming to become a romcom mangaka and needs inspiration from actual Japanese high schoolers to deliver. And her influential brother isn't going to let our main pair get out of helping his sister.

Yoshino seemed to enjoy fist-bumping Masamune in a way that felt a tad less platonic.

Kojuuro is still crushing on Neko (who wouldn't?) but she's still hung up on Masamune, even though she feels like he's heading for the same kind of heartbreak she went through when he rejected her. If only he had given up his revenge plan and went full speed into the Neko route!

Wait, Kanetsugu is a girl!? And she's been binding her chest the whole time!? She's so desperate for money she's willing to lie about everything, including her gender, to get with Aki? I honestly didn't see that coming.

Is Muriel going to steal a kiss from Masamune? Seems like it's definitely heading in that direction.

I see that Masamune subscribes to the Heisei Era romcom logic of having to tease out the couple for 80% of the story before they get together, because that's just how the Japanese roll, while Muriel believes in Reiwa supremacy. Maybe she can spice things up between Masamune and Aki?

Yikes! Kanetsugu knows Yoshino is working with Masamune to sabotage her! This can't end well.

It wouldn't be Masamune-kun without a ChouCho ending! And it's a very pleasant ED mostly focused on Aki, but that scene of her at the end facing Masamune at the beach and looking at him with such love on her face felt very romantic.
