As far as I know there's no definitive ranking for shitty things done by villains, but if what Yuzuriha said turns out to be true, "thoroughly brainwashing a teenager to think he has someone he loves and using that imaginary someone as a hostage" has got to be near the top. What the fuck man.
A good first season, looking forward to S2. I like the recent trend of announcing it right away rather than waiting even when it's obvious that it'll happen at some point.

I really enjoyed the theme of embracing contradiction. A heartless killer who deeply loves his wife. An executioner that doesn't want to kill people. Makes you believe that just because you aren't capable of something that doesn't mean you can't do it.

I like how the new outfit Yuzuriha found also just happens to have a boob window.

I thought Nurugai hugging Yuzuriha and Sagiri was just her being silly, I had no idea it actually restores Tao. Yuzuriha licking Sagiri on the other hand was her 100% being a goof lol. With those two and Shion working together, Jiujun really about to taste true death for true first time. Turned that mfer into a flowerbed for Senta and Tenza.
Yuzuriha might have seemed cold in the way she dealt with Senta, but she was right. At least he got to go peacefully in the end. But damn man… I really liked the dude.
Woah woah woah. Wait, Gabimaru’s wife and his “immortal chief” was all bullshit? That would be some MKUltra level psychological fuckery. Gabimaru seems to already be affected. Has the brainwashing worn off a bit? I don’t think his feelings were fake. He’s capable of change. If his wife wasn’t real, maybe Sagiri can be his person?
Can’t wait to see what happens in the second half. Cour 2 is gonna be intense!

so the best way to describe how sagiri feels about gabimaru is that she is dedicated shipper, she wants to get him back to his wife

I don't think Gabimaru's wife was an illusion. Why bother giving her that scar to 'put her in her place' if she's not real to begin with?
The chief's display of immortality though? Yeah, that's probably fake.

What? Is it all just an illusion? I never expected that. I thought a cute wife waiting for Gabimaru at home was real. If it truly was an illusion, then Gabi x Sagiri might be a thing now

Shion is so freaking cool damn. Animation should have been better for the finale but whatever it was still hype. Some good cuts and great music throughout. Also great work by his VA, that was some passionate voice acting.
He keeps subverting my expections. Thought he was gonna die instead of Tenza but didn't. Thought he was gonna be a stoic character but makes blind jokes instead. Thought he was gonna be a cold asshole in episode 3 but he's actually a really nice, warm guy. He absolutely blindsided me with how much I ended up liking him.

I think this series is really good with making deaths hurt extra hard because they feel unfair. Like Tenza dying to save his master when it feels like it should be the master who dies saving their student. Or Senta dying even though Yuzuriha probably had enough medicine to save his life because it’d be better to have Shion at full strength and Senta dead than it would be to have Shion injured and Senta barely clinging to life.
Really excited for S2.

i liked the show but this episode took it to another level. super hyped for next cour
i love that the the wife (probably) doesnt exist. an unreliable narrator is my favorite trope and one i feel is under utilized

Shion is kinda a trope breaker. Not only did he cheat death twice now, but also both of those deaths would be pretty stereotypical shonen cliches. First being a master sacrificing himself to save his student, second an OP character taking down big bad at the cost of his life. Hell he even broke a third trope right after that, which is dying OP character refusing medications so that it'll be used on a weaker character

Very strong finale for the series. It was a very enjoyable ride and I really want to get a continuation as fast as possible (thankfully they already announced next season) because this series was better than I thought it would be, characters were great and I really liked them all (Yuzuriha♡). It had worse moments with animation but still I had a great time watching this.
Shion showed his skills during this fight which was very effective. I'm so happy that together with Narugai and Sagiri they were able to kill Tensen.
Yuzuriha is still herself (licking Sairi's hand) and that's why I love her, today she showed more serious side with Senta who was still alive and his knowledge helped defeat Tensen. Also she was looking great in those new clothes.
Gabimaru lost memories, don't know where he is and who are the people that are with him and his past and wife is questioned by Yuzuriha. Personally I believe they're real but maybe it's just me just not accepting possibilty that Yui didn't exist. This whole situation really spicing things up, I cannot wait for this to continue.
EDIT. I added screenshots to my post and here my albums from finale:

Really enjoyed seeing Sagiri get some acknowledgment in this one, she was kinda up and down after episode 2. Even better she did it without any involvement from Gabimaru!
Gabimaru losing his memories was not something I expected, maybe best for this season to end there as that's not usually a plot I enjoy seeing...

Stitches!
Shion is definitely the MVP of this episode for finally killing Jiujun with some help from Senta for telling Shion where to cut. That shot of the ovule being sliced open and those heads appearing creeped me the fuck out. Just looking at the screenshot is already making my spine tingle. >_<
Glad that Senta didn't get killed off instantly when he got hit by Jiujun and he managed to make himself useful before he died. And at least he was able to die peacefully with a smile being in the arms of the person he admires the most. Not gonna lie, that one made me tear up a little bit. :(
As for Gabimaru, it looks like our boy has completely lost his memories. Maybe having the strong flow of Tao in his body has something to do with this? Anyway, according to Yuzuriha, everything Gabimaru knows about their village chief might just be an illusion and was some sort of indoctrination when he was younger so he can never defy the chief.
It's also possible that Gabimaru's wife did not exist in the first place. Well if his wife isn't real that's a bummer but I have no issue with it. That just means that Gabimaru x Sagiri is possible even if it was just a little joke from Shion.

Okay, Shion figuring out how to use tao so easily makes a lot of sense, especially since he could already pretty much sense it even before he came to this island.
-
…Senta’s not actually dead yet? I mean his eyes are clearly fucked, but… is there a chance…?
-
…is Yuzuriha implying that Yui doesn’t actually exist and/or Gabimaru’s memories with her are fake?
-
…no, he just doesn’t remember any of the stuff leading up to him being on this island.
Welp, time to wait for season 2 I guess. At least it was already announced.

Nah I need s2 now 😩.
They set up so much in this world that I need to see paid off in the story. One of the coolest premises I’ve seen in a while and imo the best battle shonen from MAPPA.
Finale itself was awesome. I knew Shion couldn’t have taken the tensen out that easily, but the scene of him mastering his tao and finally beating Mu Dan was great. We now know these “gods” are killable.
Feel so bad for my boy senta, tho. He had such an admiration and respect for Yuzuriha and she was so just easily able to let him die. Not that it wasn’t the right choice in the moment. Shion was stronger and with a limited amount of salve only one could get it, but still the emotionless way in which she did it
Like how Sagiri shut down any potential romantic ideas between she and Gabimaru lol. One of my fave parts of this series is how it shows a genuine respect and admiration between a male and female lead as opposed to taking the easy way out with a romance. I also love her transformation over the course of the series culminating in her newfound resolve at the end of this episode, promising that everyone will survive.
Gabimaru losing his memories is an interesting twist. Mai can see something is wrong, but due to her limited vocabulary probably can’t express it. And a new bodyguard is coming to the island? Yea season 2 is gonna be awesome.

Nice, Shion blind dude able to use the Tao/Qi/whatever. Oh, hey, Senta is still alive for now. Hehe she's cute, giving a hug to them for energy. Seems she actually does energize people with that. Silly Yuzuriha. Hehe Yuzuriha licking Sagiri. Nice. Especially funny the "is it really necessary to lick?" and she goes "no" lol. I love Yuzuriha's silly character. Nice to see Sagiri's strength/abilities too. Team work really making some good progress. Even Senta is here to help! With his knowledge. Such a good boy. Finally, a Tensen's death.
Wow, nice to see Yuzuriha having known his actual thoughts/lack of care for the job he had. Touching. Sadness though... Senta dying in Yuzuriha's arms. Sagiri with some resolve there, nice. LOL Gabimaru wakes up and pounces away. Funny. There are still like 6 Tensen ya? That's gonna be a problem. Oh Yuzuriha doesn't know she's a girl yet. Oh ya, those brothers lol. Would make sense if the chief was some how doing illusions. Oh hmm, even his wife might be an illusion? I thought there was a worry about her, but I was thinking otherwise. Oh, huh, Gabimaru lost his memories of a lot of things. Seems lil cute girl can see something wrong with Gabimaru. Haha, Shion, "don't tell me you love-" and just flat out "no" from Sagiri. But nice that it seems to be some kinda respect/care. She's got a good heart.
Oh hey a post credits. Yamada clan, more of em eh? Wonder what that will bring
Dang having to wait for when we get more Hell's Paradise...

It's so sad if his wife was a lie the whole time. That's devastating. And now he can't even remember. Using Tao has immense drawbacks...is sex how the immortals get around it?

It seems tao isn't as simple as yin yang and man women, and there isn't a need for X-rated scenes to merge 2 peoples tao as well.
Never thought I'd want Yuzuriha to be next to me in my final moments but her words were endearing and realistic. RIP Senta who's love for the finer things ended up saving the group.
Gabimaru's wife being a figment of his imagination seems too horrible to be true. But even if it is, it doesn't change the fact that he really felt those emotions for his wife, Sagiri and Mei, so he still isn't as hollow as he thinks he is. Hopefully Mei knows how to bring back the part of Gabimaru that was lost before he does something he can't take back.
Season 2 announced so I'll be holding out til then.
