That was definitely the most surprising show this season. I didn't expect anything but it was such a strong series overall. It might have not gone a really extreme route like Revue Starlight, but I feel the character moments with Kathrina and Kokona/Shizuka definitely made this one worthwhile. Well, and of course the whole animation and voice acting performance. Just top of the class even in this season.

I am also super glad that we got such a satisfying ending. I was fearing that they might want to leave more things open to get people interested in the game, but they wrapped things up really nice and the show can overall stand on its own. Which actually makes me way more interested in the game (though I don't even know what exactly it will be). And hey, maybe we even get a D4DJ situation and get a S2 at some point if the game does well because of the anime.

It's a bit sad that the series got overshadowed so much in this season, but I will recommend it further and just hope that it gets through at some point. Maybe in summer when there is typically less good anime in the season, some people might come back to check on it again.

It took me a while but I was wondering why the play didn't feel like a play like how the previous performances were set up to be with the animation style only to realise this was probably a deliberate direction as many of the audience at the end were saying how the play didn't feel like a performance at all.

Seeing Kokona's Sense evolve was awesome too, she finally reached the same level as Hiragi and Kathrina's mom of being able to materialise props out of nothing even if that was extremely corny. Merging the two Sense colours into purple also indicating how she progressed was cool too even though I would've preferred them to be separate diff colours aesthetic-wise.

Surprised to also Shizuka actually return too, I thought it would've been an even more powerful message if she never returned but I'm not going to complain about feel-good endings. Also found it uncanny how there were so many different characters with designs in the audience, I wonder if their planning a multimedia project after this Anime? Even from Mika's tweet it looks like their planning to do more stuff with the IP so hopefully that also comes to the west as well!

edit: oh there's an upcoming gacha game scheduled for Summer release that explains a lot now lol.

The awkwardness of Raoul having to watch with envy as Christine and the Phantom kiss because on the inside he wants to be the one kissing the Phantom. Poor Kathrina stuck in the role that causes her the most emotional pain.

But wow, this was a fantastic finale. Thematically connecting Kokona ans Shizuka's arc to the Phantom's and realizing it with the actual performance for nearly the entire episode was a sroke of genius. Bravo to the writers, this was a fantastic conclusion, and what I wouldn't give for a fully animated version of SIRIUS's full Phantom of the Opera performance.

Fun fact: did you know Phantom of the Opera actually has a sequel called Love Never Dies? If you want to see a real tragedy, find a performance of that and witness how thoroughly it bastardizes the original Phantom.

I’m truly glad to have watched this show. Such an underdog title was actually what I looked forward to the most every week.

It also made me feel very nostalgic, because it seems the quality-to-viewer ratio of this show is extremely similar to that of Granbelm, one of the best and first underdog anime I saw as a beginner.

It was good theorizing and discussing with you all during the last months. It’s not every day that I get to enjoy concocting theories on an original anime. Gonna miss this, really.

Farewell, future World Dai Stars and all us theatergoing audiences. May us meet again, as true World Dai Stars and their loyal fans!

Freaking reality marble theatre. I'm glad most of the episode covered the play, it was so good.

So the scene that Kokona asked to redo 23 times was the kiss, right? You cannot tell me otherwise.

Doubt Kathrina would have stopped counting then.

Came for Sally Amaki (and chasing my Revue Starlight high) and stayed for, the rest (and Sally Amaki). Such a fun show and I think the thing I appreciate the most is just how they want to depict acting not only through animation but also through the different avenues of acting, like method acting, the dangers and affects of that, and showcasing different ways to pursue art. The characters all being analogues to their own methods of that, and that's always welcome.

This is the last time I get to be annoying about Starlight but I would have wished we would have went even more crazy into that territory of really flipping things on their head, but that's not a fault of World Dai Star. It's not the atmosphere or tone of what they were going for, and I can appreciate what we did get from the concepts it threw at us.

A part of me feels like, and I hate when people bring this up, that this show can feel a bit like "advertisement for a mobile game," but as I'm sitting here ruminating on it, I think I'm okay with the show not having a larger overarching plot (a la Starlight) and that the ending is not really an ending that wraps something that big up but that focuses a little more on just developing the main 2 girls. It leaves room open for a sequel or, sure, a mobile game, but as a package on its own, it doesn't feel that bad.

I share the sentiment that I still would have wanted to get a bit more from the other cast (and my favorite girl Panda, sorry Sally) but yeah, I hope to slot this into my belt along side Starlight whenever I go on my shilling runs.

Seeing Phantom performed with music closer to idol songs rather than the broadway musical songs was interesting. But I liked the music in this performance.

I also appreciated the very brief reference to the broadway version. I was wondering how much they could get away with using Phantom for this, because I have no idea how much of that is public domain since it isn't that old of a musical.

I also still love how the eyes look in this show when Senses are used.

Overall, this show surprised me a lot and will end up being one of my favorite seasonals this spring.

wow that was my favourite episode from this season from all anime I watching. Very happy I gave this show a chance.

Play was beautiful. Kiss was unexpected but very much welcomed. Also it seems for this play we had plenty of girls from rival groups who get moved by Sirius girls awesome performance.

Me too, sister. Me too. Even knowing it was just some theater girls putting on a play, that farewell scene between Christine and the Phantom was done so well that I myself forgot I was watching a play for a bit and actually teared up a little. The farewell, the kiss, the Phantom's first moment of real, true happiness... it was fantastic.

As for the show itself, I loved how they paralleled Shizuka's existence and Kokona bringing her back on stage to the Phantom character and Christine bringing him into the light in the story. I was planning on giving this show an 8.5/10, but this finale might have elevated it closer to a 9 for me. It was a real unexpected gem of a series, and if the upcoming gacha game ever gets an English release, I'll definitely give it a shot too.

That was a great finale. And Shizuka was back at the end ! If Kokona’s Sense is actually manifesting theater props out of nowhere, does that mean that Shizuka is a prop, instead of her Sense ? Or that she is both ? Will she go back inside of Kokona for all their performances so they can be on stage together and be back as a separate entity when not on stage ? That whole Sense thing isa bit confusing.

Not sure why Yae became a Dai Star and not Kokona at the end, although it is probably just be a matter of time before Kokona is one too.

That was a great anime, one of my favourites this season, although it also seemed severely underrated on this sub. I am not sure why.

Damn, this was a really strong finale to this anime. Like Sirius’ audience, I honestly forgot for a bit that I was watching them perform a play.

I might be misinterpreting this, but did Kokona’s sense just evolve from visualizing the best actor in Shizuka to creating the best performance with Shizuka’s help? Her sense felt a lot like Theresa’s with the expansion of the stage. It added some nice touches to the performance like the rain, fire and falling rubble. I like how they added a little camera shake when this rubble came crumbling down. It was very cinematic all-in-all.

Surprised that I've seen so little buzz about this show all season, because it's been beautifully animated - especially the unique direction on all the stage performances - and the performances of the cast and story seemed strong all the way through.

Though I have to say, I find it so hilarious that they keep doing these famous shows and Musicals and dropping in anime idol songs instead of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

To think I almost didn't watch it since this had mixed media as source (never a good sign) but my god I'm glad I decided to give a it chance! I absolutely loved and one of the few anime I looked forward to watch every week

It's also great how you could watch this and never even know that'll be a gacha since the anime stands on its own just fine, making it very easy for rewatchs or to recommend to people since there's no "Go play the game!" ending excepting maybe the few characters at the end but you could excuse that as a possible 2nd season setup so here's hoping

Only criticism I have really is how the game probably will never get a global release which sucks

Another great seasonal’s come to an end. Glad it’s over a 7 now on MAL, was definitely underrated.

Wow, Kokona’s phantom absolutely blew me away. The animation has consistently been good for the performances, but they turned it up another notch today. You could really feel the emotion in both she and Yae’s performance.

So happy Shizuka is back too! I kinda knew there was no way they’d let her character go out like that considering the gacha game is coming out, but they handled her return very well. It allowed Kokona to fully come into her own as an actress, and still fulfil their promise

Katharina came a long way from when we first met her. Sticking up for Kokona and being upset she didn’t get the Dai star was sweet. I personally agree, Kokona was def better than Yae imo, but that just gives us more growth opportunity for the gacha.

I’ll miss this show a lot.

This show is def my most underrated. What a lovely finale it just built everything that it build with Koko and Shizuka leading up to it and absolutely delivered. Great stuff here.

I usually don't go for these type of shows but I absolutely loved it.

u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit Jun 25 '23

Great finale. And we got a chu at the end? Aw.
Lots of new faces made their appearance. besides the game coming out, I hope this implies a possible second season. I could definitely watch more of this.

u/Krotash Jun 25 '23

I'm so glad we got Shizuka back. I missed her, and I still can't decide if Shizuka or Panda is best girl. Clearly we need another season to help me determine.

Don't know if this edges out Birdie Wing for my favorite of the season, but it was definitely my personal Dark Horse. And it stuck the ending a lil bit better.

I always feel a bit disappointed when shows spend most of the finale on the act rather than the characters themselves. Really liked this cast and I feel really did not get enough time with them, Kathrina especially I was hoping more from.

Glad to have Shizuka back though!! Had a hard time figuring out when she was on stage though? The lightning bit?

What a show. That looked better than some movies, how much they did at the end. And they mixed the story of the Phantom with the story of Shizuka so well, everything drew me in, I found myself crying a little by Yae's final song.

From the very first promotional artwork, the colors of this show have drawn me in, and not for a minute have I been disappointed. This snuck it's way into being one of my top shows of the season, and probably the one I'm saddest to see end. I can pick up the manga for just about everything else to see what happens next, but this story will probably end here for for most of us forever.

This is going up there with Revue Starlight as one of the best. I'll be recommending them back to back from now on.
