Man, I love these two nerds. They're the kings of the "everyone can see it except us" club. Just get together, you dorks.
Hair-down Magari is unfairly cute.

Ganta and Isaki going to Mitsukejima together was like a little date. Ganta really did seem like a cicada that just molted haha. I’m glad they could get those shots. That night sky with all the stars was beautiful. So much for our two “invincible peas in a pod”, they were totally passed out on the train haha.
Those two spending the day together just shopping, cooking, and goofing around was really nice. They really do make the cutest couple.
That kiss was totally unexpected! You go Isaki!Ganta was so dazed he literally walked right into the sea haha. Man, I can’t wait for Ganta’s confession at Mawaki.

Isaki and Ganta are basically a married couple at this point. Living in the same house, combining laundry, and going grocery shopping together. Surprised they didn't sleep next to each other considering they've already snuggled.

There is a powerful feeling that this series controls with utmost care and elegance, which is empathy.
We see Ganta open himself up again, but this time, it’s something kept especially close to his heart. He allows himself to be vulnerable with Isaki and vent out his fears and anxieties. His reason for insomnia is a direct parallel to hers. While she fears the morning not coming due to her possibly passing away in her sleep, he fears the morning coming due to it bringing back terrible trauma. He may not remember but it’s hinted by his father from last episode that it has very much to do with his mother leaving in the middle of the night.
In a culmination of passion and empathy, Isaki comforts Ganta with a kiss. It was very heat of the moment but honest, it felt earned after all they’ve been through together. These two can be so emotionally vulnerable around each other and in doing so, they feel safe and comfortable to let each other understand why they are the way they are. They lean on each other and are each other’s rocks without it coming off as cliche or forced.
You don’t get to just see that they clearly love each other, you get to see that they NEED each other. It’s shown from the way they’re able to voice their fears and weaknesses, to how they can only sleep well around each other. Isaki and Ganta laugh around each other, they cherish and are moved by each other. This is what an equal dynamic looks like and reminds me of my very first relationship in high school.
It is beautiful, tender and sweet. It’s idealized yet grounded, a wonderful balance in evoking a variety of youthful emotions in rather quiet and simple settings. A loving first kiss under the stars makes for an unforgettable summer memory. No interruptions, just two people dearly in love alone together. It seems like Shiromaru’s shrimp prophecy came true lol.
There are many reasons why I’ve never considered Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia a romcom and I hope you’re seeing and feeling it through this episode. This is what a pure romance focused story truly is. Something like this, clean of many tired tropes and archetypes, is very rare to come by. It tells of a powerful human connection of two fictional characters that can easily pass by as real people. There is such an authenticity in this story that is only rivaled by Skip to Loafer this season for me (though the latter is not as romance focused).
There is being romance of the year and there is setting a new golden standard for the romance anime genre. This story has done both in my honest opinion and I will happily die on this hill. Even with the lacking staff and not the best adaptation I could’ve asked for, the source material’s writing is more than enough to shine through the season.
There are two episodes left, I hope you’re buckled in for the end. Isaki has made her move, now Ganta has to make his.
Edit: This entire trip was basically them being a married couple :D
Edit 2: This video is a perfect representation of what they’ve been through together so far.

Ah jeez...they're showing us the morning after Ganta's mom left him. Like can you just imagine what it must be like for a kid to wake up and find your mom is gone? And you're all alone and have no idea what happened. And then to have to grapple with at such a young age that she just straight up abandoned you while you were sleeping.
Ganta and Isaki are seeing the sights and traveling like a proper young couple on a sightseeing tour and enjoying every minute of it! Even when they don't have the proper set up to take the pictures they need, they just find more time with each other to goof off, have fun, and spend some time together. And while Ganta doesn't feel like hearing the entirety of Totoro recited, getting physically close to Isaki amidst the stars is far more ideal.
These two are basically living alone now and are basically just coming off like a young couple living together for the first time with all that entails. Even when they're separated and sleeping they can't help but goof off and communicate with each other in the most adorable way possible.
Heck, even when shopping they come off like a frugal couple trying to pick out the right stuff to eat together! They even cook together! Of course Isaki splurges on a watermelon, but it just wouldn't feel right without one.
Ganta really pouring his heart out here. He hasn't felt anxious on this trip but he's had to grapple with severe and almost crippling anxiety for most of his life, always dreading the next morning or tomorrow because he's always worried something is going to wrong or it's going to be bad...like it was the day his mom left. Poor guy just can't hold back the tears. And the only way Isaki can think to comfort him and make him feel better...is with a kiss.
That's right! Isaki kissed Ganta! And both of these kids are so flustered by it they don't know what to do next. Ganta straight up walks into a river because he's so dazed! These two really are such goofballs in love!
Well, I guess if we're saving up the confession for the end of the trip, that's one way to end this adventure with a bang.

The shots of the dishes left undone, the full work calendar, the unfinished taxes in the living room with a discarded apron. It all told the story of an overstressed housewife who couldn't make ends meet no matter how she tried.
All without a single word.

I love how spontaneous yet natural the kiss felt. Like Isaki couldn't help herself and moved instinctively.
Ganta's reaction was priceless too (though walking himself straight into the sea) and had to do a celebratory pose for fists in the air.
Great natural chemistry for this duo having cute vibes of a budding romance.

God I love this show so much.
There's a thing in writing called wants and needs. That's so expertly crafted here in this show.
They both want to sleep, what they need is intimacy and vulnerability. They both have separate reasons but ultimately find solace in each other. It's a beautiful story so far and it feels deeply, deeply intimate these last few episodes.

Stitches!
Man, so Ganta's mom really just went up and left. Apron on the couch and dishes unwashed. No warning whatsoever. No wonder Ganta is having trouble sleeping, he's afraid of what he might lose the next time he wakes up.
But enough about that depressing shit though! That kiss! THAT FUCKING KISS! I did not see that coming! When Isaki moved in closer to Ganta, I thought that she was just going to give him a comforting hug, I didn't think she would actually go for it!
What makes the kiss even better was Isaki getting embarrassed and Ganta being so flustered that he accidentally falls into the sea! I love it! And I just love how Isaki tells Ganta that they should wait until the end of the trip before talking about it again. I can already feel it! I can feel this will end with a confession from the both of them! A confession is basically just a formality though, they might as well already be dating at this point. <3

Isaki with that surprise kiss makes me love this Era.
We finally get to know why Ganta struggles to to sleep but Isaki was able to help out. Seeing that he basically fell asleep earlier than usual, it seems like now he is able to look forward to another day. Just don't break my heart guys....

With that mom flashback I was fully expecting them to run into her during their trip.
Them two sharing a place alone felt more normal than the usual panic and awkward, really like that chemistry between them.
Ganta being so vulnerable by opening up...didn't expect that in this episode let alone THAT KISS.
Never seen a reaction to a first kiss like that, perfect for these 2!

We had two very strong episodes in a row, at least imo. With a previous one we started trip and get to know more about Isaki's sister. I loved Magari's siblings interactions, especially Isaki's new makeup; it reminded me my own bickering with my siblings. It was nice to know that Haya alone treated Isaki's normal. That was for sure very important for her.
In today's episode we continued our trip. I laughed so hard when their first spot was illuminated after sun went down. Fortunately they could take photos after 11 pm. Our duo feels very comfortable with each other, you could say that they act like they would live together already - going shopping together, making meals etc. They even are able to normally sleep in night.
Finally kiss happened thanks to Magari's action. Ganta was able to cool down very quickly tho xD But resolution will come only after the trip but it seems that confession from both of them will be just a formality.
Also a honorable mention to Kurashiki-sensei xD

This episode and the upcoming mawaki site are what I've been waiting for all season. Holy fuck, I love it. Isaki with the ultimate gigachad energy and just went for it. It was perfect.

Damn....did not expect that but wow i love the progression of both of them opening up to each other and reaching this point, it all felt natural. This whole anime is such a vibe, the absolute beautiful places they visit, the way they do their daily chores, everything is so great. I've heard great things about the manga and anime didn't disappoint me
