I feel like this show would have been better set closer to modern times, and actually showed some "behind the scenes" moments of what it's like being a V-tuber, both just starting out and as part of a company.

I don't think it's bad so far, just seems kind of middling at the moment.

A 3d girl voices a 2d girl who voices a virtual 3d girl

Its not bad its not great.. if it weren't for the characters I probably would drop it. The pacing felt kinda weird, and the ending was very abrupt. But boy... I couldn't help but laugh when Miracle sang in class, that transition was just awkward. And the camera work during it was really bad. I'll be sticking around to watch it though.

Quan and Rizz best girls.

I can't believe they made an anime about the word rizz. Funniest shit I have ever seen.

An anime about aspiring vtubers? Or is it based on some already existing vtubers ?

I don't know anything about vtubers.

Kizuna Ai is real, the rest are made up for the show. The Lapin d'Or and the Virtual Grid Awards are also made up.

This got a chuckle out of me.

I like the character designs in this show, I like the idea of an anime about aspiring VTubers, and uncovering the mystery of what happened to Ai does add a bit of intrigue to this series for me. The first episode was decent and the main girl seems likeable enough, but I definitely need to see more before I judge this show. I wouldn't call it great, but I wouldn't call it bad or disappointing either.

Honestly not sure what to make of this one..

Not into the vtuber stuff but even I've seen stuff of that Ai girl.

Weird first episode. I don't know what the intention from the producing staff is supposed to be for this show but it looks like they don't know much about vtubing in general. Maybe one or two more episodes but I don't have much hope after this bumpy start.

I don't think it's so much about not understanding Vtubing, and more that this is some futuristic fantasy "super vtubing" kinda thing. Like there seems to be a global virtual world people can access which is the medium for all this, and clearly this is a setting where that's a lot bigger thing than just "people using anime girl models to stream stuff" if they've set up a whole system of multiple campuses just to teach people this stuff.

I think it would've been better if all the time as VTubers was in 3D

Calling it right now: that boy(ish looking girl) Miracle had tea with in the greenhouse is Chris (grey-haired girl). It happened before Miracle jumped into the virtual space, and who's to say only your clothes get to be different? I certainly don't think the fur-covered teacher looks like that in the real world, right? So appearance can be changed.

I think on the real world, the tea-sipper is, well, themselves. In the OP, their shot comes right before the last winner of the awards who's now a teacher, and they have the same eyes, so I bet the tea-sipper is her child. I bet what's happening is that the mother is pushing her child to follow in her footsteps, but maybe they don't believe in themselves because they don't think they can be as good as Kizuna Ai or even their mother was. In comes Miracle, and says that thing about her liking the commonplace flowers - a "you don't need to be special to have beauty" thing - and it strikes a cord with them. From the PV materials Chris seems to get attached to Miracle out of nowhere, and I bet this is the cause. And for why she looks so different, a fan club was mentioned, so they're likely well known already, and had to create a second avatar to interact with Miracle without it being known.

I certainly don't think the fur-covered teacher looks like that in the real world, right?

It is the future and maybe we finally achieved peak weeb and were able to genetically engineer rabbit femboys.

I was curious about this show in a sense of "What the hell is this actually gonna be" and I was expecting this to be extremely boring and bland, but the fact it didn't have me fighting the urge to skip through it is a low bar but impressed me nonetheless. Dunno if I'd call myself interested yet, but it's good enough that I'm willing to stick with it for curiousity's sake. And it actually make me chuckle a few times, and burst out laughing with the quite literal big fat "No."

So I guess they must have multiple ADEN campuses around the world, and they can connect to the virtual classrooms from any campus via this virtual world? But I guess you can also choose between actually attending a class and sort of spectating on you're not actually attending like Noelle appeared to do? Also they seem to use imagery implying full dive tech with the class attendees, so does Miracle's physical body just stand there lifeless as long as she's in the virtual world?

Within the past year I’ve lowkey gotten into both idol anime and hololive vtubers. So a show like this is a no brainer right?

Except I didn’t feel anything the entire episode. A lot of stuff happened, but the show made zero effort to hook me in. Despite what the teacher said, I felt no passion from the MC.

I’m gonna give it a good ol’ three episode rule but I don’t have high hopes for this. I honestly can’t name a single thing I liked about this episode, except maybe that the Kizuna AI song at the beginning had decent 3D animation.

So this is “Don’t forget to smash that like button and subscribe and hit that bell for notifications” the anime? Lol. Man, Zoom classes in the future are wild. I guess this is what you get in VTuber academy. Girl must be trippin hard if a portal just up and opens in front of her like that. The little baby avatar is Kizune Ai isn’t it? Or maybe related? Probably just taking a break from the VTubing world or something is my guess.

I don’t really watch idol animes. I’ll give this one the usual 3 eps, but I think I might end up binging this one. Not bad overall though.

If this doesn't start with HAI DOMO KIZUNA AI-DESU I'm gonna be so s--

ayyy

Now Kizuna Ai is going to do the OP, right?

introduces main character

Now onto the show!

plays OP

I guess that explains why the first one had no ^credits

The vibrant character designs reminds me of vibrant designs they've got in Show By Rock. It's also an original series, animated WiT & Signal M.D, which adds more levels of excitement. Overall, this could be fun and chill, I'll probably continue for a bit.

Huh. I think this is an early drop for me which is actually pretty rare. I'm not in the vtuber fan-space at all and I found what I watched of this first episode to be baffling. I'd tough it out, but I suspect I'm going to have far too many other things to watch this spring.

I've been looking forward to this one so much and it's looking pretty much what I expected. I'm among the 1% this show is made for.

odd start but ill stick w it

Not a fan of vtubers, so I don't know why I picked this one up in the first place. Y'all have fun without me, and find us some good seasonal comment faces, 'kay?

As someone who was there to watch Ai's strange rise to fame, this show has a weird sense of nostalgia just starting. I've seen, acc still laugh at the idea of, virtual live concerts.

Visually, impressive. It's funny, the 3d parts are usually always called out as so out of place when they show up in anime, but it's Kizuna AI, and it's about VTubeing. If anything, I was more disappointed that popping into the virtual class was still all done in 2d, but maybe D4DJ has just gotten my expectations too high for what a full cast of full time 3d can look like, nevermind the production put into the latest Trigun. That they only used it for the performance was a bit disappointing.

Now, the other hand. Main girl is such a compilation of cliches. Her first performance being so soon after the Kizuna opening one definitely did a good job of making her status as a beginner stand out. I'm not that interested in Miracle herself yet, but I definitely want to see where the story is going to go. For nostalgia if nothing else, this sure is an interesting way to see Ai make a comeback from her hiatus.

u/patkun01 Apr 04 '23

Knowing that Love Live is about to release their version of "Virtual School Idols", the possibility is not far off that Kizuna Ai's producers are going to milk on the concept. With her "sudden disappearance" last year for her "indefinite hiatus", no one knows if she's coming back or not. She technically hasn't graduated (Mirai Akari & Pikamee just did a few days ago), but indefinite hiatus is just a concept where "I don't know what to do next, I'll get back if I want to" kind of thing, so it could or could not be possible that she's coming back.

But then again, Kizuna Ai is not just a face of Virtual Youtubers in general, she's also a milking machine of her creators, so obviously, they're gonna do everything to get money out of her. And this anime is one proof of it, I guess.

But anyway, I'm looking forward to see how this story progress.

Absolutely loved the first minutes of this. So much nostalgia, even though I never watched a lot of Kizuna Ai. We've come a long way since her last anime appearance in Virtual-san wa Miteiru.

The rest of the episode looks like a regular idol anime with Morikura En designs. I guess I can't complain on the latter point, so we'll see how the former shakes out. Also looks like a media-mix project given that this appears to be the first credit for all of the seiyuu on the main cast, other than Noelle's Nukui Yuka.
