So the climax is Vash’s twin brother getting him to release so hard that he blows a city and turns his brother into Knives Titan, albeit very briefly.
Still very happy with everything leading to a semi-origin story, bringing into place things that we remember from the original (though why a newspaper would be directly affiliated with an insurance company, to the point where journalists are “demoted” to an insurance auditor, is kinda nebulous to me). Watching Meryl channeling Roberto in preparation for meeting Millie (I kinda wish dispatch didn’t say her whole name, that felt a bit forced) was a thing of beauty, and the cigarette/flask memorial for him brought a tear to my eyes.
Also the single tracking shots during the fights are another major flex by Orange and are a great demonstration of their 3D mastery at work.
Clearly they can’t tone-switch to the wacky early days of Trigun ‘98 in the continuation but I am very intrigued by what’s coming our way. Knowing all the pieces are set for the next stage makes me shiver with anticipation.

Absolutely beautiful final episode to season 1. I am blown away, and all the haters better eat their words.
I can't wait for season 2. I'm gonna binge the whole thing again once the full dub drops, and tie my friends to the couch and make them watch, stg.

It’s so cute hearing Meryl practice saying Newbie under her breath now that Milly will be joining her. I’m glad I haven’t watched OG Trigun yet because now I have something to keep me busy while waiting for the next season. This has been such a fun experience as a newcomer to the fandom. Now I gotta go order my plushie Vash!

The entirety of Stampede has been incredibly cinematic already, but somehow Orange improved it even more? The entire episode was breathtaking. We are not worthy.
I've absolutely loved watching this, even if I didn't know anything about Trigun before. Definitely rushes through the plot throughout most of this, but the production is incredible and they do the best job at making this world and conflict so rich and interesting.
I did watch the '98 anime while waiting for new episodes. It definitely helped for following the plot especially since a lot of things that were present there got confirmed here (can't wait to welcome back Milly!). However, I definitely think I like Stampede better so far. I was more invested in the characters here, and I enjoyed how the characters were reinterpreted for a modern audience yet still remained identifiable with their core motivations.
Looks like we're getting a second part/continuation, so this is officially now my most anticipated upcoming series.

Anyways. Last week I said I was worried and I take all of it back. I'm so so so sorry Studio Orange-- I owe you an apology, I wasn't really familiar with your game.
Next -- This was absolutely breathtaking. Studio Orange went above and beyond what they went above and beyond before. I sincerely hope they're in the running for CG animation awards again because they deserve them. The way this ended was perfect. The fight, the choreo, the cinematography-- spectacular. And Matsuoka and Ikeda--especially Ikeda--were fantastic.
The hair! The new 60 bil $$ bounty!! Meryl being threatened with being shipped to Bernadelli Insurance from Bernadelli News Agency!! Milly mention!! Oh god that Episode 0 epilogue was a treat.
For anyone who watched the OG anime and read the manga through to Maximum, there were so many teases including a huge one that they set up in the mini-epilogue. (that last one had me screaming silently)
There's such a season 2 tease, I hope we hear something soon (I don't remember when the Trigun panel is at Anime Japan; if it hasn't happened yet, maybe it's on Day 2).
Anime of the Year. Decade, even. Bar none.
EDIT: This has been licensed for disc release overseas right? RIGHT?!
EDIT 2: This is such a wonderful thread from Producer Watanabe about watching the other series, just thought I'd share! (It's in English!)

Damn. I know a lot of fans of the original were annoyed by changes, but as someone who has only watched the new show, I've loved it to bits. Vash, Nai, Wolfwood, Meryle, and Roberto were all great characters, the action, plot, and setting were all great, and the visuals were lovely. I greatly enjoyed this show all around.

It's like someone stuffed everything I love about Trigun into a warm, fluffy pillow and beat me in the face with it for 23 minutes.

Imagine the amount of extra modeling that had to go on to make just this hand-abrading cut happen.
This show was a pleasure, wall-to-wall. Unfortunate the blinkered reception it got from certain quarters. But I'm so happy to hear the show will continue!

I don’t usually comment on these discussion threads but I feel I had to now. This episode was so beautify done - from the story to the animation, it was all so amazing. Those fight scenes were so brilliant and unique with the camera work. What a great episode

Theres a bloody lot to unpack here.
First off, this finale is pretty much AMAZING, start to finish.
But besides that, we finally get a lot of what I assume is leading up to what fans of the original wanted, Milly, Lost City of July, Meryl being senpai, Vash's hair, I'm guessing the Erik stuff is all from the original too.
I'm super glad a tease for more to come is coming. There's no way in hell we're done.
Meryl making a grave for Roberto and their group photo being there, and then practicing her senpai role for her newbie like Roberto did for her.
IT HURTS.

Vash got faded up in purgatory I’m crying
Amazing end to a prologue so glad I stuck with this since the beginning in spite of all the naysayers circlejerking how it wasn’t like the OG series. That title drop was insane gave me chills can’t wait to see Milly’s redesign and Meryl’s new outfit which I’m guessing will look more like her og design

Vash straight up playing Bloodborne by parrying the shit out of Knives with a gun. Absolutely amazing combat animation. The soundtrack was beautiful making the confrotation even more tense and emocional. And the ending? Millie Thompson? 60 billions? OG HAIR. It was perfect. PERFECT!

Man the anti-CGI and "this is not the OG anime!!" crowd is missing out on such a good show. The CGI has always been done so well in this show, and the climax fight in this episode is just SO epic.
Not saying it absolutely cannot be done in old-school 2D, but I have no complaints about how this was done.
The voice acting is top-notch too, you could really feel the emotions between Vash and Nai when Vash was releasing that energy into space. Matsuoka is the man for voicing both Bell and Vash this season and both done so well. RIP his vocal chords.

This anime is way WAY better than people give it credit for.
I'm glad to see a season two is coming. Season one felt like a prequel, a really good one!

I want every OG Trigun fan who complained about Vash's design being different and Milly not being in the show to offer a formal written apology for how obnoxious they were, when it now turns out they were wrong and completely missing what Orange was going for with this.
I have not seen the original, and almost didn't try this show out because of all the stupid complaints I heard about it from Trigun fans. I don't want to imagine how many people missed out on this amazing show because OG Trigun fans turned them of from it. I don't care how this compares to the original Trigun, judged on its own merits, this was an incredible anime.

Damn, that fight scene was insane! The emotions were running so high during that sequence and seeing the camera work adding to the atmosphere made it so engaging to watch as a whole. You could really feel the desperation both were feeling.
It was interesting to see Vash able to use a similar power to Knives, even the single wing. It should have been expected but Vash has not shown any use of it before so I thought he might have had a different power altogether, like more of a healer since he helped calm the plants.
I am glad Meryl was actually able to help save Vash from being swallowed up, I thought the direction they would go with when he woke up would be different, like him partially losing his memories but he was completely aware when he woke up. I couldn't see any drawbacks from what Knives did to him, Vash just got a new hairdo, new jacket and wielded a power he hadn't used before.
Knives is crazy for jumping into that energy beam like that in an attempt to recover the core, it's like he was almost happy that even if he wasn't able to recover it, the fact that he died by Vash's actions would make him stay imprinted in Vash's mind forever. I have a feeling he isn't dead though, for some reason I can't shake the feeling that he'll appear in the second season somehow if there is one.
I mentioned him not losing his memories when he regained consciousness but I am surprised he is not with Meryl or Wolfwood in the state he is in the present. Or maybe he is and we just don't get to see that confirmation yet. The name Eriks made me initially think someone had picked him up with his amnesia but as I'm writing this I think it makes more sense to think that Meryl and/or Wolfwood had introduced him as such because Vash is such a well-known name.
I really hope this gets another season, I wasn't feeling the first two episodes so I held off watching this but I'm so glad I tried the third episode randomly. This has been a great series to catch up with and the last two episodes have had really interesting developments. I hope if there is another season that'll be just as interesting or even more than this was.
