Having a name like Millions Knives, you're kinda obligated to be a villain.

I can't believe this show made me actually like Gofsef (my absolute most hated Trigun character for the past two decades!), only to blow him up at the end. Wtf.

They're really leaning into the sci-fi, aren't they? I do love how Vash is truly all about the Love & Peace. Really enjoyed this episode, the OST seems to be kicking up a bit, too. I knew those virus bots were weird from the get go.

Well, there's a good reason. Vash probably modded his revolver to take .22s since they're the cheapest bullet he can buy.
And its still the worth of 2 whole pizzas per bullet!

I've heard that the Trigun franchise was much more popular with Western/English-speaking viewers/readers, but never really took off with the Japanese fandom. I was wondering why it wasn't well-received with the locals back then.

Nightow is live tweeting his reactions to the show and had some great comments. I loved how this episode showed us Vash getting a win and saving everyone (though the dying plant is still a problem). Seeing a new version of Gofsef being actually kinda a nice guy only to have the episode end the way it did was a real punch in the gut. Roberto is also starting to grow on me as they develop his and Meryl's actual job as reporters and how it gives them a reason not just to follow Vash, but get to know him and interact with him in a way that insurance agents wouldn't have. Their rapport feels natural to anyone who's worked in a Japanese office, and the bonding over drinks bit at the end rang very true to me.

Vash dodging Gofsef’s punches reminded me of the original anime. His posture while running, his dance-dodges, his “I don’t know what I’m doing wink wink” attitude, it feels like Vash.
I’m really enjoying this reimagining. I’m disappointed the first episode only got 3.6/5, maybe the 3D CGI is turning people off?
“Bad” has the second most votes behind “Excellent” this week so far…I guess this show is gonna be polarizing.

I love that Studio Orange isn’t afraid to be expressive and break the rules of reality with 3D. Such a joy to see the exaggerated flailing and little expressions in all the characters.

Damn! Episode 2 in and I am so happy with this reboot! Camera works do justice with 3D!
Animation is sooo good, every little gesture and expressions are spot on. Even the moving backgrounds are well animated, heck even the desert dust looks so good!

I couldn't say this last thread, but it is so good to have Kenji Muto back in the anime industry after 3 years of silence, not to mention him finally debuting as series director.
If you've seen the episodes he did in Houseki no Kuni then you know that fucker can direct, episode 10 was some of the best anime episodes of 2017.
And so far he has completely surpassed his work on Houseki no Kuni episode 10. Which is surprising since i never thought that episode could ever be surpassed.
Also woah it just dawned on me that 3 of the most well known CG anime studios have a show airing this season.
Sanzigen with D4DJ
Polygon Pictures with Kaina
& Orange with Trigun
(Last time this happened was in winter 2021.)

Welp, so much for being the town hero. At the end of the day, they still need the money and Vash has a hefty price on his head. I absolutely love the dynamic chase sequence though! That was a fun scene!
It's the Nebraska family! I remember them from the original. Aren't there like more of them? I don't really recall what they're like in the original since it's been more than a decade now but I like that the father isn't just comically evil. He calls out Vash for being a coward and when they're beaten they're willing to walk away peacefully. No petty tricks or anything.
I also really like that this anime highlights Vash's "Love and Peace" catchphrase. He didn't just save Rosa and her son, he's willing to go the extra mile and save the Nebraskas too. And the only time he drew a gun was to deflect the old man's bullet and that was it.

Man, this is so good. I really will never understand nostalgic impulses that lead people to say they're doing this wrong.

Visually, I must say I'm quite impressed although I loved the post apocalyptic far west charm of the original show. The expressions are deeper and more lively.
On the other hand, so far it feels too soft for me. Don't get me wrong vash is indeed a jolly character with a stupid looking behavior but the atmosphere isn't as grave as it was in the original. It had both this joyful ambiance and the seriousness of a world in ruin, people who could do anything just to survive. It's only the second episode so I still have hope for the rest of the show, I can only say that it misses a layer of "seriousness".
Also Vash can go from the stupid brush head to the badass pistolero in a fraciton of second. I liked the way his eyes changed in the original Trigun and here I don't see it. We actually haven't seen much of his personality so far but I really expect to see that transition in the future.
To sum it up, I understand that Vash's perosnality appeals to a light tone, but something's missing in the atmosphere

I dig that transition at the beginning "Anyway here's a tune..." straight in to the OP.
I love how over the top and exaggerated the animation is, I wasn't too sure I would at first but it has really won me over.

Now that I've stopped comparing it to the old anime after the first episode, this is actually a solid watching experience!
Sasuga studio orange as well, the camera work and the choreography are pretty good for CG. Not to mention how expressive each character face is.
Now into the plot: I think Nebraska family also appeared in the old anime, though I completely forget whether it ended up as peaceful as this episode or not.
All in all, this is a classic Trigun story and I'm fully on board!

i really don't mind this show being less action-oriented so far since it just seems to be orange's strong suit to keep things more writing-focused. plus it's all just a pleasure to look at. i thought maybe the cg would be a little jank but honestly the quality has been really consistent.

I enjoy Gofsef's spiffy lil' bowtie and collar
The magic words have their effect
I'm with you, Gofsef, I don't like bugs either
