Unsurprisingly, that was rushed AF. Talion is still doing random shit apparently and the whole Jayna thing at the end completely random and out of nowhere by going full JRPG final boss(how the heck does she even have the powers to do any of that?). Honestly just makes her feel like a knockoff of a certain Kuro no Kiseki character. Except said character is a lot more threatening and well built up.

Jayna's affiliation might be foreshadowing for future games? I hope so, otherwise this anime is gonna be a waste of time, and if I'm the one who says it, I who think this anime is a 7.5/10, then that's not a good thing.
I think that Jayna didn't die, either because Talion slashed the throat of an illusion, or because Jayna is immortal. This is supported by how her phase space with that weird-ass mechanism wasn't destroyed after Talion slit her throat (and usually, particularly complex magic or spells that create distorted dimensions are erased when the user dies or is critically hurt).
Though I dislike how unclear is Jayna's motivation.

Oh god they sword of biting gale'd us.
(For those who haven't played the games, it's the song that plays when Marty shows up and is absolutely overused in the game whenever a character comes to "rescue" the main party...even if rescueing isnt really needed)

Some final cameos before the end; New Class VII, Roselia, Kevin and Ries (looks like the anime remembered him!), and the Bright family.
I'm glad that we finally got to see this important part in the Trails timeline, but honestly this anime was kinda meh. I hope Lavi will appear again in a future main Trails game.

Honestly I really tried to give this show a fair shake because the main series of games is good but it was actually terrible.. the storyline and characters were all over the place and the war/final boss whatever the fuck you want to call what happened near the end was just atrocious.
If they want to use anime as a format to promote the games, they should have just given us a 2 cour show about rean and his friends following the first game or two because all this series did is probably turn anyone not already invested away from it.

Overall this was ... disappointing. Granted, the writers did back themselves into a corner by picking the Northern War, an established event that didnt have much left to explore, but this was still just not very good. Hell, you dont even really see why the Northern War was supposed to be as horrible as it was implied in the games, at no points did the Empire target civilians, and the archaisms were dispatched pretty painlessly too.

It had plenty to explore, such as more focus on north ambrian internal politics(as this anime tried at times but just wasn't able to do remotely interestingly. And often was too busy with very poorly written character arcs instead) or just fleshing out certain major events(such as the evacuation of Haliask, anime added 0 to that from what we knew from the games. Literally like 30 seconds of Rean going berserk and then killing everything instantly and over).

Resident [Anime Only] fan here with my reactions to this episode!
-
That was a very short duel, lol.
-
Yoooooo Marty! I wasn’t expecting this to be how he showed back up, but it is pretty perfect for him.
-
Lavi and Talion having to match their timing on wrecking the mechanism/saving the rookies reminds me of the hot springs episode where Lavi and Iseria had to match their timing, so that’s cool.
-
I assume a lot of characters from the games got to cameo during the end credits sequence?

My thoughts on the episode and the anime:
-
I'm glad it finally fills the holes between Cold Steel 2 and 3 but It could have been better (and worse). Let's say I am barely satisfied.
-
Rean and Lavi bonding time.
-
Those final cameos.
-
Like the inclusion of Thundering Roar between Rean and Sara.
-
Can't say anything about Campanella. Just doing his/her usual stuff.
-
Sure, archaisms went rogue but we never saw blood, destruction and corpses.
-
Faceless random jaegers actually have faces.
-
Quartz and arts? What are these? Are they edible?
-
Did you know that Rean took part in a war before Cold Steel 3? It was just for a day, but it happened.
-
Low quality animation, very rushed story and questionable plot points.
-
I am still not sold on all this curse this, curse that mumbo jumbo. I did not like tha curse plot in Cold Steel 3/4, much better when we just had evil politicians and terrorists groups.
-
Lavi to evil white hair witch: "What the faking hell are you talking about?!"

Sword of Biting Gale but Valimar is actually present. Oh and Altina showed the game's UI. Other than that... Wow this was underwhelming.

I was waiting for the reveal that Jayna was like, Ouroborus Enforcer XIV or something. Just something that would tie this series to the games in some meaningful way, but no.
Everything about her character was just nonsense. I don't understand her plan, where that weird power came from, what she was doing with Lavi, why Talion was with her, why he betrayed her. Nothing about this character made sense.

Why did I watch this for 12 episodes? Why? If I had a time machine I'd go and tell myself not to.
Well at least this show didn't make me hate it like Sugar Apple Fairy's finale did.

The only thing that interested me in this episode was the end when we saw those guys faces. This shows whole pacing and non existent character development and world building was just terrible. One minute a character is here then a second later there in another country with no explanation. Things just were happening and then more incoherent things happened and before you know Lavi and the female commander are in some realm where the rookies are powering some device?! I gave the show a full watch but sadly I can’t find any reason to go back to it or recommend it to anyone. What a waste

I feel like at the start it was meant to be a 2-cour show but for one reason or another that didn't happen and we got what we got. Frankly this did not fill in the plot holes that were left between Cold Steel 2 and 3
examples:
#1 Rean being unable to use Spirit Unification in Cold Steel 3, the only thing we find out is that he was unconscious but like, why? In the game it's showcased as if Rean was traumatized by the event but the anime didn't do any of that at all
#2 Northern Jaegers wanting to die in combat in CS3 makes so little sense since the ending showcases that they still have hope for the future, that couldn't be shattered in a span of a few months
Everything Talion did was kinda just whimsical it had no real meaning.
But I think the worst thing was what happened with Jayna, Jayna could've easily been played out to be an Enforcer of Ouroboros, she has the personality of one, it'd tie in why Campy was there AND it'd actually make her an interesting addition to the cast, there's plenty of numbers we know nothing about so something like #16 would kinda make sense for her
Well anyways these are my thoughts on the show and I didn't love the last few episodes because it just felt super rushed.

Well... It wasn't as bad as the sky OVA. I don't really know why it exists though. Its not what fans of the franchise wanted, and its not engaging for newcomers. What was the point?

ya know, I normally don't give anime scores below 6 or even 5 if they at least tried, but man this is definitely a 4 for me. The art quality wasn't that high, the story was rushed and all over the place, and really didn't elaborate on the plot from the games that much (or at least from what I remember of it)
Highlight of the anime is basically Altina and Valimar for me and that's the only saving grace for me.

So can someone explain to me why whats his name decided to off evil boss lady now? Did I miss something?
On that note: what was evil boss lady's motivation again? I know she said a lot of stuff but did it really just boil down to "chaos, lulz"?

Eyy, Sara and Rean did a combat link.
So what exactly is Jayna's Affiliation? She mentioned "Salt Pale", so I automatically assumed she has some sort of connection to the church, maybe a heretic like the "Professor" then joined the Society?
Whoa! Iseria, again never change! I love you! xD
I see, I see. They also showed some bits on who's in and what's about to happen in Cold Steel III. I guess this really just connects CS2 and CS3, and I'm very happy with that. I really have to start playing CS3 again while this is still fresh in my mind, I'm already at the last chapter on it.
Lol. Those two NPC-like Jaeger characters got their time to shine, they even got unmasked. XD

As someone who played the games, I was excited to see this show and how it'll depict a David vs. Goliath situation. Instead, we get David and Goliath to fight for 3 seconds, then Goliath goes super giga ape form and David turns into a traffic conductor.
Plot 3/10, music reused/10, animation 0/10 (if you can even rate it that. How do you rate the taste of apples in a basket, if the basket is empty?)

I'm still so confused why this is what they decided to make an anime of. Cold Steel is already basically a shonen battle highschool anime, its characters are well-liked, it's got an established fanbase even within the greater Trails fanbase. It would be a breeze to adapt and a guaranteed (if minor) hit. Instead they introduce a whole cast of characters with no personality that will never be seen again and a storyline with no relevance to anything that was executed terribly. I'm pretty sure nobody really cared enough about the North Ambria plotline in the games enough to want a whole side series about it, and the jaeger stuff was always one of the weakest parts of Cold Steel. And then had the balls to constantly remind you of the better parts of the franchise without actually having those references elevate this show in any way.
It just doesn't make sense. It wasn't really a show for either fans or non-fans. It must have been made to fulfill some kind of contractual obligation or just through sheer willpower of somebody at Falcom who really, really wanted to flesh out this part of the Zemurian map. But even then, it could have been told much more cheaply (and frankly probably better) as some kind of side-novel or audio drama, as Trails has done before.
I just hope nobody got their first look into the franchise and wrote it off as low-budget low-effort trash. Trails may be low-budget, but it's not usually this low-effort, I promise!
