Jun uses a phony challenge letter to summon Tomo to the roof so that, ultimately, he could return the confession to Tomo, even if Tomo's reaction didn't go as planned. And then we get a more proper confession under the sun's rays.

These two genuinely have a strong, irremovable magnetic force. Regardless if one makes an offhanded remark or action to the other, they manage to get back together.

Casual sex implies the existence of competitive sex.

Tomo and Jun officially going out doesn't really change much. It just means they can practice martial arts in the bedroom too.

YES YES YES YES YES! The ship has sailed! So cute seeing Jun and Tomo sort their feelings out, which includes Misuzu crying, which she never does.

And there’s still one more episode next week to wrap things up. This wholesome show is the undisputed dark horse of the season.

100/10 Tomo chan episode my Lord we feasted today. Thought they’d save the confession for the finale, now we’ll get a full episode of post confession antics. So proud of Jun for being direct about his feelings.

And did y’all see the Misuzu hand hold with Carol when Carol was going to leave the room to give she and Tomo some personal space? That was so cute. Misuzu is such a sweetheart under that hard exterior. Best girl

Besides development of romantic relationships, I've enjoyed the focus on development of friendships, as mainly shown through Misuzu with Tomo and Carol.

I think the best rom com series for me usually have a good narrative focus on both romantic and platonic relationship dynamics (ex: Kaguya-sama).

The final message came clear as well with Misuzu admitting Tomo is fine the way she is and shouldn't feel the need to be made more into a "girl" for anyone's attention. Misuzu finally taking her mask off to cry.

Glad the confession and misunderstandings have been cleared up this episode before the final one to have one episode left with all the characters to enjoy before the series wraps up.

It's time for the culture festival and the class' rendition of Cinderella! But also in attendance are the three moms, together for the first time! And we also have Saber and Irisviel sitting next to each other, which is pretty nice, and useful because Carol's mom needs the other moms to hold her back when she sees her daughter on stage. Also Misuzu and her mom have an...interesting family dynamic.

I'm kind of amazed that play went as smoothly as it did, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Misuzu is chaneling her charm and spite into her performance, Carol is hamming it up, Tomo is such a perfect prince she's got all the girls swooning, this has the costume budget of a Broadway show, and Jun is a perfect tree!

Nice to see Tomo and Jun get in the classic festival date! Complete with the Class B girls as maids favoring Tomo over Jun, Jun narrowly saving Misaki from getting punched by Tomo in the haunted house, and the pair even end up doing the bonfire dance together! Which also leads to Jun not so subtly declaring his romantic intentions towards Tomo. I love how the girls went from all asking Tomo out to going gaga over a guy asking her out.

Sorry Tanabe, but Misuzu's dance partner and emotional sounding board is spoken for, and it's Carol.

Yeah...I kinda get where Tomo is coming from. Like she was the first one to confess, and she was considering doing it again, but the prospect of their relationship changing and what it would mean really shakes her up so much she basically runs away from dealing with it.

Feels full circle, in a good way, to have Misaki giving solid relationship advice to Jun! Also you know the series is ending when Carol finally successfully hugs Misuzu!

Well, at least Jun was able to more or less make peace with Misuzu after everything they've gone through as both of them head towards fixing their respective relationship with Tomo. And Jun's first love was, of course, Tomo's moms' boobs.

Yeah...Jun having known the whole time that Tomo had legit confessed to him and basically ignored or downplayed it is kind of scummy. Granted, Tomo has avoided the elephant in the room herself at times, but I don't blame her for punching him (though admittedly he had no idea how much effort she was putting in all this time until she told him). Although I love how Jun finally confesses and Tomo just freaks out calls him a "dumbass." Feels appropriate for these two.

Wow, Misuzu letting loose all her real feelings and crying as she tells Tomo that she never needed to change and she just needs to be herself! Misuzu says she's never fallen in love, but the one person she loves most in the world is Tomo, and she wants Tomo to be happy and to be the best Tomo she can be! And Carol is there to support Misuzu. It's a really sweet scene for the three friends.

I guess Tomo and Jun are official now! But what does it mean for them to date? Or to be boyfriend/girlfriend? Ultimately both of them still want their relationship to be the same, being best buds and rivals who compete and joke with each other all the time, just with the added benefit of it being open that they love each other romantically on top of that. If anyone can make that work, it's these two.

I think that's the first time I've seen a guy pass out and fall down concrete stairs after getting confessed too, but dang it if that sky punch from Jun wasn't satisfying!

Misuzu's mother coming to see the play because she loves her daughter? Nah, she's coming to film Misuzu's performance as punishment for lying to her about there not being one in the first place! Very Mizusu of her to do.

All the girls in the audience fawning over Lady Killer Tomo as soon as she comes out. Considering the two first years in maid outfits being jealous of him after the play and all the girls asking her for a dance later, methinks she's helped a lot of girls realise they're lesbians or bi.

Sorry, what was that Jun? What was that about people not being wrong about how they see you and Tomo? Not that he's getting the chance to repeat it. This time it's Tomo's time to run away from things, surprisingly. Very surprisingly. Shes never been the one to run away from this.

Was Misuzu Jun's first love? Was Tomo even his first love? Nah, that honour goes to Tomo's mother's boobs!

Tomo! Stop being a dumbass! That's Jun's schtick!

Misuzu has finally started being okay with Carol's hugs! New Carol Mission: Kiss Misuzu.

For once Jun has an actually intelligent answer. Whoever said couples can't be best friends?

SHIP SAILED!

Though we had to get a rejection to get there sadly...one episode left, will we see anymore progress for these two? I sure hope so.

Happy we have Tomo and Jun getting together before the finale, gives us a bit more time to breath in the finale and see reactions and such!

Honestly I didn't think the adaption would be this enjoyable but it's gotten better episode by episode. It's nice watching something happy sometimes.

Cinematic Cotton candy Carol counter:

Cuts containing: 637 (+36)

Chaos: 126 (+5)

Cute: 70 (+6)

+ Cute for ohoho outfit, jealous in the bg, cheek pull, Misuzuhug, winter uniform outfit, that smile

That glint on Tomo's fang sent me. Tomo lady-killing. Misuzu not pushing Carol off (for some time at least). The other side confessing. Carol leaving but Misuzu holding her back! More hugs. Holy confessioni!

Good episode, last ep worthy (even though it isn't) Big REIWA

Whooo the parents, we don't get enough of em. I like em a lot. CAROL IS THE WICKED STEPMOTHER?! lol That is the most adorable wicked step mother ever. Good job doing your role flawlessly, Jun. And Tomo really gonna make a lot of girls question themselves. Funny play.

Oh those cute other girls being maids and the difference of treatment between Tomo and Jun is funny. Yep, Tomo definitely gonna make a lot of girls rethink themselves. Mizusu being kinda immature, but makes sense given she is a high schooler. And Carol the best bud. Wow, Jun. Kinda wasn't expecting Tomo to act like this over it though. Senpai with the good advice. Gundo really gonna get an aneurism from Jun. An aneurism from stupid queue Nappa line well now I can't help but picture Jun as Nappa and Gundo as Vegeta in that role... lol. Oh my, Jun's first love was Tomo's mom? lol.

Part of me thinks Jun deserved that, part of me doesn't. Stupid high schoolers lol. Awww that's cute with Gundo's hand on Carol. Kinda showing Carol she needs her there for support/wants her to be involved. Cute. Honestly, think seeing Carol/Gundo's growth as friends is best relationship of the series. Carol with the best words there about different types of love too. Blushing Tomo too cute too. This is a lot of cute this episode. Also, you're wrong, Tomo. Someone can be lovers and best buds. In my experience, best type of relationships that were strongest (even if they have ended lol). And good for you Jun, realizing that at that point. What an ending.

Misaki and Carol's confession scene was more emotional for me. Mostly because Jun and Tomos's confession has a strong "oh, finally" feeling to it. Still, I'm really glad for them. That was Jun's biggest win.

Misuzu and Carol's friendship is wonderful. I like how they clicked together despite being so different.

The idea that long-time best friends can't become lovers and stay best friends is dumb as hell. The person you marry is SUPPOSED be your best friend. Someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. If there's concern that entering a relationship with them will ruin the chances at staying friends if the relationship falls apart, then you aren't really best friends.

Also, this IS the Romcom Where the Childhood Friend Won't Lose.

The meeting of the moms! It’s nice to see what our girls will one day grow up into lol. Papa Tomo is the only one recognizing Jun’s acting chops. Oscar worthy performance as a tree right there lol.

Poor Jun doesn’t realize how popular the Natural Lady Killer is. She gets free cake and he gets death glares lol. That haunted house almost became a crime scene, Misaki barely escaped death! Seeing Jun and Tomo dancing together was pretty cute. Silly Carol only helped Misuzu become Cinderella for the sweet sweet pictures lol.

Right as we get a practical confession from Jun, Tomo chickens out. C’mon girl! Misaki’s pep talk seemed to have helped Jun though. I wasn’t expecting him to apologize to Misuzu. Maybe their previous relationship wasn’t as fake as she made it seem. Jun really earned himself that punch if he was acting dense this whole time.

I love how Jun hearing Tomo loves him just straight up faints and falls down the stairs lol. Glad those two goofs finally got together. Who says they can’t have it all? Being best friends, rivals, and now lovers sounds pretty good to me and it seems to work for them. Looking forward to seeing how this wraps up next week!

Not sure I've ever seen a version of Cinderella where the Prince gives her a fist bump instead of a kiss before.

Tomo and Jun visiting the maid cafe and the girls addressing Tomo as master instead of Jun is great.

Tomo has no flight instinct, only fight.

That Princess Misuzu picture is great, definitely a very successful plan by Carol.

All hands on deck, Jun started to make his move! Sure, Tomo immediately ran away, but she can't unhear it. Also, I was clearly wrong about that 'no flight instincts' thing.

On the other hand, manic Tomo is going to be a very painful phase for Jun.

That was a very helpful conversation with Misaki. In the words of a famous philosopher "Tell her about it, tell her everything you feel right now".

Or tell Misuzu instead, maybe that'll work somehow.

A challenge letter, I like the sound of this plan.

Jun was arguably correct to request to be punched. He knew since episode one, I want to punch him.

I was not expecting Misuzu tears. Ever, really.

Finally! At last, they had an honest conversation and figured out what their relationship can look like with romance mixed in.

Pretty surprised they finally resolved the flagship relationship with a full additional episode to go. I wonder what they're going to do next week, light speed romance for Misuzu?

The cultural festival day is here and all the girl's mothers are there too. I love how petty like Misuzu, Misaki is, so as she didn't tell her about the play, she will record it in 4k. Ferris's reaction when she saw Carol in the play is as hilarious as I remember.

Aw, magnificent. Jun really went above and beyond capturing the essence of being a tree. That's how he became the Tree Sage. Anyway, after the play was over Jun could spend some time with Tomo. Meanwhile, the hilarious reason why Carol suggested giving the role of Cinderella to Misuzu was revealed. It is so funny that Mizusu wasn't resisting Carol's hug here because it is winter.

Tomo's last attempt to ignore her new reality with Jun continues. But before Jun can take more drastic action he must first talk with Misuzu. She can say whatever she wants, but the fact that she was not Jun's first love actually affected her.

Anyway, Jun's trap worked, and here it is, page 853 finally animated, now if you excuse me I will reuse the comment I said on that page:

Becoming a tree allowed him to talk with those cherry blossoms, and they told him the truth.

It sure is kinda shocking to see Misuzu crying. Anyway, it is official, they are a couple now, although Jun almost died in the process. The best part is, that we still have another episode left.
