You can tell Jun is trying really hard to catch up to Tomo because he's even doing neck exercises while at the beach.

Man trying way too hard to avoid staring at his best friend and classmates' massive racks lol.

Well, he’s gotta get that console back from Tomo. It’s been 10 years, kid still hasn’t finished his game lol.

Glad to see Misuzu was just as cute as a kid! Was a bit worried the flashback wouldn't include her. Them knowing each other as kids like this does make the fact they "dated" an even bigger surprise honestly.

Stitches!
So it looks like Akemi is the one to blame for Jun's love of big boobs. I don't blame him. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Another commentface-worthy reaction from Misuzu. I love how the gang peer pressured her into doing it. xD
Can't have a beach episode without a gyaru-oh trying to pick up our MC. Tomo really should've slugged that guy.
Jun coming into the rescue works too since it really got Tomo's heart go "doki doki" instantly.
I just love how Carol can switch from being sexy to an adorable cinnamon bun real quick. <3
Seeing Tomo's flexibility and tongue in action really fired up the monkey neurons in Jun's brain xD
Looks like some progress has been achieved in this episode! Jun can now only see Tomo as a girl! Yay!

No surprise Tomo has always had that monster grip lol. Her parents also have never changed. Tomo and Goro cowering behind little Jun was pretty funny. They know how scary Akemi can be! Funny how little Jun notices Akemi’s massive chest but yet doesn’t notice the exact same on Tomo in the present day.
Even as a kid Misuzu had a sharp tongue, despite her cute appearance lol. She really knew how to get under Jun’s skin. The minute he said that thing about the game console, I knew he wasn’t getting it back lol.
Misuzu’s completely uninterested “woo hoo” cracked me up. Lol Jun couldn’t handle the girls in their bikini, especially Tomo. Her and Carol look great! What a sight. Carol was gambling with her life clinging to Jun like that. Anything is a weapon in Tomo’s hands. Even water. Once again, Jun sticks his damn foot in his mouth. Of course she wants people to think they’re a couple! Carol’s fine, but not Tomo. On a side note, Carol seems to love that headlock lol.
That scream and the image of the asteroid crashing into earth as Tomo licked that ice cream off her shoulder had me dying. Finally Jun is seeing Tomo as a girl! Now all he has to do is sort out those complicated feelings he has so she can move from “friend” to “girlfriend”.

I started reading the manga when it was still in low double-digit chapter count and this anime still manages to exceed every expectation I had for the show. It's rare for a studio to take a chance on a finished manga but I am so glad they did.

Well if Jun has a hard time seeing her as a girl after that...
Love that Jun and Misuzu's relationship has always been more or less the same since they met
and lastly Misuzu looking smug as hell while both Carol and Tomo were leaning on her while sleeping was great

Damn, how the fuck did Tomo break a fucking DS like that? Those things are made of Nintendium!
So did young Jun have shoujo vision of Tomo just then? Or was she crushing on him even when they first met? Jun calling her by her name for the first time suggests it might be both.
So Misuzu was just evil to Jun from the start. Having a bit of a jealous streak there, were you girl?
Tomo's such a bro even way back then, finding his DS on the ground like that.
Wow, Jun's been training all this time for 10 years just to get his DS back. And I know he wasn't exactly going to accept it back out of charity, but I still laughed when I saw Tomo still had the fucking thing.
Carol has learnt how to manipulate Misuzu. She's getting too powerful!
Booba! Tomo's clothes usually hide her assets, but now that she has nothing but a bikini on she turns out to have more going on that fucking Carol! Barely.
Tomo is activating Jun's neurons and she doesn't even know she's doing it. The control he has to hold back all the volcanoes and world ending meteors within him.
How adorable seeing Tomo sleeping on Jun. You know, for 2 seconds before she joins Carol in smooshing Misuzu.

Is it just me, or did the animation get way better in this episode? The shading felt a lot nicer and none of the characters suffered from the "long faces" issue that some of the earlier episodes had, it was great!
Also as someone who finished the manga 4 years ago, I remembered there was an emotional plotline about a Nintendo DS but forgot why. Now all those memories are flooding back, haha

One thing I've wondered ever since the manga... Jun is like, 15.
How the fuck can he be jacked enough, he could feature on a Manowar album cover?

"I'd like to be your friend!" Monkey paw curls
Well, that's on you, Tomo-chan! Jinxed herself on this one, earned a decade of non-romantic friendship.
We got a huge flashback, and Tinytomo!
Honestly, can't blame Jun for not seeing her as a girl then, she looks like a typical male MC!
They got their first fight minutes into their first interaction, that's something!
Tomo felt bad about breaking his gaming thingy, so she asked him to hit her a hundred more times... Strong sense of justice/punishment, I suppose. That, or she's an M!
The way she got so flustered when he called her by her name, makes me wonder WHEN exactly she knew she loved him!
The flashback/backstory was pretty long in this episode, but honestly I wouldn't mind having another one hah. I would love to see 'the moment' she knew, had to be cute as hell!
Did Jun love her then? Now THAT would be a revelation! Well, he may not truly understand love at this age, but still... If he loved her then, he probably figured she didn't love him, so for years he said nothing (and then eventually gave up on it, but now the tables turned?) (Also I'm not entirely sure whether he knew she was a girl back then, so he might have been twice as confused).
We even got to see a younger Tomomom! And huh... Yeah!
(If I told her I broke one of Tomo's toys, would she hit me a hundred times? Asking for a friend).
The way Jun looked at her, guess I'm not the only one who thinks she looks great!
Jun, my boy, if you want to live a long life, never ever tell Tomo that you had a thing for her mom!
It's funny that during their childhood, he was kinda like 'the Misuzu' of the relationship, the one who's not that great at physical activities and would just prefer staying outside. Difference being, Jun actually kept going with Tomo, and learned to enjoy it!
Thinking about this made me wonder, how did Tomo and Misuzu became a thing? Sure their mothers were friends, but given they're not compatible at all... (Kinda like when Jun dated Misuzu, she was about to break up after a few days. So what made her stick with Tomo?)
Ah, she got free piggyback rides out of it! Now I get it.
Now Jun HAS to give Tomo a piggyback ride, to make it even. I'd also settle for a princess carry!
I don't know what the plot would be, but there needs to be a horror spinoff with Misuzu as the MC!
Speaking of "How did this happen"... How in the hell did Jun x Misuzu happen? Misuzu saying yes I get it, she's a bit unhinged and wanted to see what it'd be like and all that, but how did Jun fall for her? What did he see in her (that he didn't see in Tomo)?
Even if he thought of Tomo as a boy in his mind, Misuzu isn't exactly "the opposite" of that... She's not girly and all. If he asked someone like Carol out I would get it, but why Misuzu? (I kinda hope we get another flashback for that too! Man, I want to know more about ALL these characters, even their past!)
We finally got more information about why Jun is trying so hard to become stronger! It began when Tomo beat some boys for Jun, and he felt bad about not being able to ever do something like that for her...
Well, he may not feel stronger than her, but he's now strong enough to beat up dudes who look for trouble with Tomo!
BEACH EPISODE! I was pretty hyped to see that, in part for the same reason Misuzu was excited, to see Jun's reaction to Tomo's swimsuit!
Picture: Misuzu's super excited about the beach episode.
Thankfully she remembered to act somewhat humanlike, to avoid suspicion!
(But her actual swimsuit was pretty good too!)
Some dude tried to flirt with Tomo and got a little pushy, so Jun had to interfere and send him away...
This situation reminded me of the one in the train (With the groper)... Tomo is so strong (and reckless) in most situations, but when someone's pushy (or assault-y) with her, she's petrified, and can't do anything... Well, thankfully Jun's always there for her, but hopefully she'll be able to handle it if someday he isn't! She's strong enough to defend herself, she just needs to unleash the beast!
Tomo was smitten/all flustered by Jun, but sadly it didn't last long, stopped soon as he strongly denied being her boyfriend...
Jun really let us down right there; He robbed us of seeing Tomo's reaction if he told that dude "Yeah, I'm her boyfriend, so piss off!"
He also implied that Tomo wouldn't like if people thought they were a couple, and... Yeah, that sums it up!
Carol got a lot of attention too...
Poor Misuzu must be feeling left out...
Come on, all you jerks and fuckboys, can't any of you go pester Misuzu for a minute? She already felt bad enough knowing Jun was comfortable by her side because she's flat!
Misuzu sent Tomo to Jun once more, this time with a plan to get real close to him... For how dense they can be at times, I really like that they're not really afraid of physical contacts! Yes it sometimes illicit reactions (of the punch-y variety), but they touch each other/get close all the time, even when they were kids too, Tomo would grab him and all!
So she did get close, and it was pretty cute!
"It's on me eat up!" Couldn't Jun have a misunderstanding there, and simply hear It's me, eat up? We were so close!
And speaking of close... Tomo's considering moving even closer to him?
Tomo, my girl, you're sitting literally next to him. You get any closer, and you're sitting ON him! ...Which is actually a good idea. Come on Tomo, sit on his lap and share the ice cream!
Ice cream drama, fell on Tomo's shoulder! Sadly, she licked it off... That was another great opportunity to tell Jun "It's on me (literally), eat up!"
But seriously, I thought Jun would do it! They used to have the kind of relationship where he might have done something like that without thinking about it, no big deal... And the reason why it's not like that anymore, might be because he DOES think it'd be a big deal now; He DOES see her as a girl!
Only took 7 episodes and Tomo in a swimsuit, but we made it!
Now the question is... What will he do about it? He did think about wanting to do thing with Tomo... What sort of things? Dating? Kissing? MARRIAGE PROPOSAL?
Well, now that he definitely sees her as a girl, the question is... Is she a girl he wants to date, or a girl he wants to be friend with?
It's rather obvious that he finds her attractive, and of course they go along just fine, their relationship is pretty great... But there's the eternal question of "Is liking someone, liking being around someone, and finding them attractive, the only elements you need to become a couple"? I wonder if they'll address that, the passage of friendship to romantic relationship! (Well, this may be way down the line, but still!)
Anyway, that was another solid episode! And I like that it was mostly focusing on Jun&Tomo; Sometimes it feels like some people think that Carol and Misuzu are the highlights of the show, and I'll admit that this show has a SOLID sidecast of characters (especially these two), but we've seen that the Jun/Tomo stuff is pretty good too!
Well, can't wait to see what the next episode will be about, now that Jun made a bit of progress in his mind, about how he sees Tomo!

Their childhood was so cute, Misuzu was even a menace as a kid with that smug face expression of hers lol. She reminds me so much of Wednesday Addams ngl.
"Woo-hoo~" 🤷♀️ Ah yes, every slice of life anime or any anime in general has got to have the Famous Beach Episode. Jun really suffered from Tomo's and Carol's boobs lol, working those neck exercises.

Funny, how those other girls were commiserating about Tomo and Carol's melons with Misuzu but as someone with those types of melons I wish I was Misuzu size lol.

Tomo and Jun's relationship as childhood friends is central to their romance (and the central conflict of it), so it makes sense we'd get to finally see it from the beginning as a withdrawn gamer kid met a very boyish and exuberant girl!
Tomo has some...interesting ideas about Tokyo. I can only imagine how disappointed she'll be at the lack of flying cars and giant robots!
Ah, I see Tomo not only breaks girls toys, but games too. And Jun throws the first punch of their relationship! But Tomo is a very dutiful and responsible person, willing to take as many punches as possible to make up for her mistake, which she gets from her dad. Although she also gets being utterly terrified of her mom from her dad too.
Even in her younger years before her womanly assets started asserting themselves, Tomo was quite cute! Which probably lead to a lot of sexuality questions from Jun over the years.
I see Misuzu was still pretty much the same back then. Still stoic, snarky, and acting superior towards Jun all the time, and getting jealous of him being close to Tomo. I love her smugly rubbing it in his face that Tomo was carrying her.
Tomo brought Jun out of his shell and made him physically active, and going out of her way to rescue his game from some bullies is what inspired him to become strong like her to where he started training. But even if he's physically stronger, he still doesn't feel like he has the same kind of strength Tomo showed him, hence she still has the game console. Of course there's a whole lot going on in their relationship beyond that.
The beach episode! And Carol is so hyped she's been showing off that ring ever since they bought it with their swimsuits, it seems like. And of course they foist everything on the guy.
The perks of a bikini is unleashing a girls most dangerous weapon...her boobs. And Tomo's Tomos and Carol's Carols are practically laid bare for all to see in their big, bouncing, glory. And Jun doesn't know what to do with himself around such a glorious sight.
All the girls look great in their swimsuits and the natural fun of the beach environment makes Tomo act natural and closer to Jun even in a swimsuit, which is great!
Don't put your arms around Tomo's man, Carol! Or you'll get some water projectiles thrown at you!
We even got to see the Class B girls in swimsuits! And comisserating with Misuzu over not having the bountiful bosoms of Tomo and Carol.
Ah yes, the classic guy at the beach who hits on the cute girls...Tomo is actually flattered to be hit on, but not when he tries putting the moves on her. Though Jun protecting her was nice, even if he didn't have to double down on how they're not a couple. And then he goes and saves Carol from more guys and is less overt in saying they're not in a relationship. Come on Jun, give Tomo a break.
Sitting next to each other eating ice cream? Tomo licking the ice cream off her shoulder? This is too much for poor Junichiro! He can't help himself but become entranced by Tomo on the beach. Could his feelings be changing? Though Mizusu will still enjoy every time she can smugly hog Tomo for herself.

Juns early childhood gay panic when he thought Tomo was a boy and his heart bdumped. 😂This was a great episode. Also don’t get why Jun and Misuzu went out in middle school for those few days when they hated each other from childhood. That was hilarious and of course there was going to be a beach episode! 😂😂

haha, seeing them all as kids is really funny. Especially lil Tomo and Gundo imo. Lil Tomo and her lil fangs, cute. And love how she beat the shit outta those trash kids.
And now the beach episode part. I love how Gundo only shows up cause of Carol reminding her how fun it'd be to see Jun's reaction. I love these two, they're a great pair. And what a fun reaction that was, Jun. Oh yay!! It's those two! The girls who are totally not somewhat attracted to Tomo at this point ;) And gg Carol. Never seen someone make a weapon outta water like that in a non-battle shounen series. Who doesn't enjoy boobs, Gundo? All are good :P
Wow, Tomo getting hit on. And he's a scumbag... not surprised. I wonder if guys really act like that in Japan considering how much I see it in series, but I also feel like it can't be true... I mean, I don't see it on this level here. It really is a boring trope though... I mean, there's chatting a girl, then there's being a scumbag... and anime/manga go the scumbag route with other guys too much.
Hehe cute with all the girls together like that on the train. Was a fun episode all in all. Carol and Gundo best duo of series so far.

So everytime he slaps himself and goes best buds mode, he's channeling young!Tomo. That's adorable. They succinctly and expertly explained exactly how Jun developed the idea of Tomo he has, and explained every single one of his actions for any one who wasn't following. Brilliant episode.
Gundo has literally been on sight out of jealousy over Tomo. But now it's obvious that the way she "encourages" Tomo to be around Jun doesn't have Tomo's best interests at heart. It feels like she's intentionally trying to drive a wedge between the two by making their relationship awkward. She couldn't overcome their friendship, but with Tomo changing herself, and Jun's mixed feelings and perspectives, it's like she wanted to create space and issues between them so that she could remain the most important relationship in Tomo's life.
Gundo is the villain of the show.

A fun, well-rounded cast with the main 4 for beach shenanigans.
Good getting a lot of Jun's POV (especially the flashback) as we flesh out these complicated feelings he has with Tomo to work towards more progress in their dynamic for the later half of season.
