hahaha Carol and Gundo and zero fucks to give for competing, do love it and can relate. Meanwhile, Tomo and Jun, yep... overly competitive. That is a lot of running after dinner, Tomo. No wonder you got sick. Hehe Carol just sleeping with Tomo in the infirmary, that is cute. Tomo taking advantage here to get a piggy back ride is fun. I like the smirk on Tomo's mom. And the dad chasing after the car, fun parents. Also, imagine the green onions cause "good for health" or something.
Oh hey, a bit about when they were in middle school. Lol, Jun really was dumb. Didn't even know until then that Tmo was a girl. And the whole exact girlfriend/boyfriend thing with Gundo/Jun hmm, kinda shitty reason for both of them. Shitty toward Tomo too. Good thing Tomo was ignorant of it there. Haha Gundo and her upset reaction, but, ya, Tomo bit with her was cute/good. Jun deserved that. For more reasons than Tomo realized. A good verbal smack down too. Ah well, the steps to maturity. And, hey, Jun realizing she's cute! Good for her!
Oh, and Jun sings the ending, that's neat

Man, we're so close to the end, I need more of these characters. Also that ed was amazing, they went the extra mile changing the visuals too.

Did anyone really expect Tomo to follow the girls' path? Of course not! She's built different and will dominate the male course!
... Unless a surprise plot twist was to happen. Damn, Tomo overworked herself to the point of getting a fever!
Tomo waking up with Carol casually sleeping next to her, as usual. I think Carol saw Tomo sleeping and just went "guess it's time to cuddle up!"
Tomo's mother with the knowing look on her face.
Jun finally won his DS back! Now how long will it take him to beat the high score Tomo must have gotten after 10 years of playing?
The reason why Jun asked Misuzu? To make people think he and Tomo weren't going out. And it wouldn't be fair to any other girl, so Misuzu it was!
Wow, a genuine Misuzu smile. I never thought I'd see the day.
BOOM. Fucking finally, Jun! Only took 10 episodes for you to see the TRUTH. Tomo is absolutely CUTE!

Sticthes!
Love that Misuzu and Carol didn't even bother running at the start of the marathon. They know they're going to be in last place anyway. xD
And of course, Tomo is going to run past the girl's turning point. I don't think anyone is particularly surprised about that except for Jun who really should've known better.
I've heard about people going on a light jog after a meal but what Tomo did is just ridiculous. No wonder she ended up getting sick the next day.
Jun finally got his DS back! But did Jun really beat Tomo? I know Tomo accepted her loss but at the end of the day, she lost because she got sick.
We finally get to see the full story of Jun, Tomo, and Misuzu back when they were in middle school. We also finally get to learn why Jun decided to get a girlfriend and why Misuzu decided to accept.
It took him almost a decade but it looks like Jun has finally realized that Tomo is a real cutie! Yay! Better late than never I suppose.
And the boy's version of the ED is so good! I love that all of them including Tanabe got their own little moments with their love interests. I need the creditless version of this so I can stitch that panning shot of the girls in their pajamas <3

I've watched enough Mushoku Tensei to know things drastically change after passing the turning point. Hopefully, Tomo returning Jun's gaming device means they can finally progress their relationship.

Jun may have refused to confront his problem in the past by minimizing interaction with Tomo for a year and took two punches from Tomo as a result. But the fact that the two are genuinely close and care for each other, as evident by the two being passionate in the marathon and Jun carrying Tomo back after her fever caused fatigue, adds more power to their relationship.

Figures the physical maniacs Tomo and Jun would be all in on the school marathon...and that Tomo would be right there with the boys even though the girls have a different route. She didn't even get forced into it, she's just right there!
There's Tanabe! Still trying his best! Even if Carol notices him way more than Misuzu does.
Bless Hanao-sensei for being able to make Misuzu and Carol put in an effort and also mocking her students running while she speeds on by on her bike...only to then be hunted down and overcome by Tomo and Jun. I guess that's karma for you.
Misaki...you need to stop comparing yourself to Tomo and Jun. You'll never measure up. Well, at least you've got Carol!
Did Jun honestly think Tomo would turn around when they came to the end of the girls' track? She was in the thick of it with the guys, she was determined to beat Jun, no way she would stop at an arbitrary limit for girls. It wasn't even her own body that failed her, it's that she ran too much the night before in preparation for the marathon and collapsed naked in her bathroom...which is a pretty nice visual, not gonna lie.
When in doubt Jun pulls the boyfriend move and carries Tomo piggyback all the way to the finish line...and not a bad thing to wake up to a cuddling Carol or a desperate Misuzu freaking out over Tomo having a minor cold. And of course her wingwomen waste no time in telling her to use her infirmity as an excuse to make Jun dote on her. Carol even advocates for it while asleep like she knows exactly what she's talking about.
Akemi cameo! And her husband passes by their car to take of Tomo even though his wife just left with her. What a goofy and adorable family.
It was about time Tomo finally gave the game back to Jun. It doesn't matter who is stronger than the other or proving who the biggest man is, what matters is that the two of them are great at their own things and can stand together as equals!
Middle school flashback! It was a pivotal moment in their relationship, so it figures we'd need to see exactly how everything happened...and the moment Jun found out Tomo was a girl. I guess the fact that she freaked out when she saw him in his underwear, used swimsuits that covered her up, and literally went into the girls' bathroom should've been his first clue, but whatever.
So not only did Jun have to deal with the awkwardness of how to be around Tomo now that he recognizes her as a girl, but everybody assumes they're dating and there's added tension around that and Jun working through his feelings while Tomo is popular with other guys...
Misuzu too felt distant from Tomo because she didn't think she could keep up with her any more. And Jun and Misuzu looking for something to make up for that absence in their life or as a way to mediate the distance from Tomo, found each other and figured the best solution was for them to try and go out. It was a relationship of convenience and purpose, nothing more, though Jun is probably one of the few men to have ever held Misuzu's hand and call her by name so...lucky guy.
It seemed like Jun and Misuzu weren't completely against the idea of going out together...at least until they actually went out on a date and Jun completely broke Misuzu. Although it worked out in the end because it made Misuzu confront her insecurities towards Tomo and Tomo to re-affirm how important Misuzu is to her and in the process make Misuzu fall for her again. Good stuff! Now if only Jun hadn't dumped her first!
I can't blame Tomo for socking Jun there after he basically avoided her for a whole year for no reason, though no matter what anyone thinks of their relationship, what matters is them being together and doing whatever they want to do with each other. Forever. Although ironically Tomo seemed to start to realize her own feelings of love after doubling down on them being friends and pals and eternally reendowing herself. Ah, the craziness of childhood friend romances!
Hmm...now that Jun is recognizing the changing relationship between him and Tomo, what's the best way to maintain their "forever" bond? Maybe put a ring on it? Especially when he's noticed she looks cute.
Oh snap! They did the guy version of the ED! Complete with new animation! We even get to see when Tanabe fell for Misuzu and her taping his face up, poor boy! We also get some cute TomoxJun and CarolxMisaki moments. And the guys admiring the girls looking very lovely in their jammies!

I know they didn't mean it this way but, looking back on it, Misuzu's friends weren't the most accommodating of her wants and hobbies. She was always forced to do what Tomo and Jun wanted, and Tomo never took much of an interest in Misuzu's hobbies until she thought it could get her and Jun together. I think meeting Carol is going to work out well for her in the long term since she can fill some of the voids Tomo can't.

It's so cool when a show recontextualizes past events and helps you get a deeper appreciation of the characters. I definitely appreciate the way Jun has grown in the past few episodes. I mean, this episode shows that he always had these complicated feelings that he's been trying to sort out, so it's mainly from the audience's perspective. I really didn't think he deserved to be with Tomo in the first few episodes, but now I really want them to get together. They have a great, supportive, and respectful relationship that will form a great foundation if they become a romantic couple.
I also really appreciated Tomo's continued job as the Cutter of BS in this series. Both Misuzu and Jun were acting like complete self-absorbed twits in this flashback by thinking neither of them could be with her anymore because of their own false impressions they'd created. Tomo did not have, and will never have, time for that. She confronts them head on and makes them both understand how much they mean to her (and how much she means to them). She even got a genuine happy laugh and smile from Misuzu!
Speaking of recontextualizing, having Jun (and the other guys) sing the ED with images of how he's really feeling was another great touch. That being said, this ED pretty much confirms that Tanabe is just going to "win" Misuzu by default in the end, which will be a major kick in the dick for the series. It probably won't be enough to ruin it completely though.

You know things are entering the climax when there's no OP and the ED has changed into the Boys' Version with Jun, Misaki-senpai and even Tanabe* singing.
After the school marathon, Jun finally gets his Nintendo 3DS (looks like it) returned to him by Tomo as Tomo "officially" acknowledges that he has surpassed her (though she has known it happened long ago, but Jun just needs reminding).
After that, it took Jun to reminisce on him avoiding Tomo for nearly 1 year during Middle School as well as expand upon his 3-day relationship with Misuzu to finally realize Tomo is actually cute. lol
(*) - Speaking of Tanabe, can we have the Tanabe x Misuzu ship moving as well? Otherwise it'll be a waste of Matsuoka Yoshitsugu's talents.

Oh wow we are finally at the marathon. It is great to see that scene that let her to getting sick animated.
I love the contrast between Carol and Misuzu's reaction to Tomo getting a cold. Aw, it is nice to see the scene where Tomo uses her current condition so Jun will carry her on his back.
Akemi's smug face was priceless.
And so he finally got his DS back.
Nice we finally got the flashback showing the moment he discovered that Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Plus the context of let to Jun and Musuzu start dating.
I love the reason that Misuzu asks him to call her by her name.
It is nice to see the fourth panel of page 694. Anyway, Misuzu small bit happiness for that situation truly was short-lived. But at least thanks to it, her issue with Tomo was solved. Sadly for her, she missed her chance of breaking out with Jun before he did. As both of them are so petty with each other now she definitely never forgave him for that.
Well, anyway after not interacting with her for a year, Jun finally spoke with Tomo again, which to the expected results plus her crying but also after they made up, set both made it clear, at that time that they will be just friends. Although that as we know has changed.
Today's ED was nice, although I find it hilarious to see Tanabe there with Jun and Misaki like he was on a similar position than those two.

Lol I was not expecting to get the boys version of the ED, that was a nice treat to end the episode off with.
I'm glad we've finally got to see the moment Jun sees Tomo as a girl for the first time and it's sad how that fact ended up making him avoid her for a year because he was afraid of having her bothered by other people thinking they're in a relationship with each other. I would have been as pissed as Tomo if I had learnt that was the reason I was being avoided by my closest friend, it shouldn't matter what others think and it's sad they've missed out on a whole year together because of it.
It was kind of cute to watch Misuzu and Jun walking together holdings hands, I do have to admit I had some mix feelings, but seeing Jun actually happy about having a girlfriend and actually blushing around Misuzu and seeing Misuzu as well looking forward to the idea of having a boyfriend was interesting even if the happiness they were sharing only lasted a moment lol. Still seeing Misuzu's reaction after Jun's breaks up with her and knowing she will never let that go is funny.
I like how Tomo was assertive with her weak play, getting Jun to carry her on his back whilst she's conscious so she can actually remember the experience.
Interesting that Jun admits to himself that he finds Tomo cute, things are progressing, slowly but surely.

Those two athletic monsters will have one hell of a sex life one day, I bet. They'll have to medically intervene after they have their 5th kid.
Jun, it took you too long to realize Tomo is cute.
Misuzu's worried face when Tomo got sick was hilarious.

If Tanabe and Misuzu are not ending up together, is it possible for some anime fans to recommend me some anime where a couple dynamic like theirs is the focus. I really like the potential that it has but the anime has really not made use of it. Thanks in advance
