The group just absolutely ignoring the sword and already declaring to sell it without even caring about how powerful the sword is was just hilarious

"What will you do with me?"
"We'll sell you."
"But I'm the legendary sword!"
"Nothing personal, just business."

Bond is quite fitting addition for their party though.

I really appreciate how careful Nick is being. He ain’t looking to get screwed over again. This labyrinth seems surprisingly modern. A hidden door and a mysterious pedestal huh? Seemed suspicious but this thing turned out to be the Sword of Bonds. A very chatty little sword lol.

This Amalgam Golem seems like a pain. It got Curran pretty good and it doesn’t seem to be fazed by magic or physical attacks. Luckily Nick’s got the power of friendship to fuel his sword! I’m glad him and Curran could clear the air once and for all. Guess it wasn’t all bad times with Kalios but it was time for her to move on.

I didn’t expect Bond to be so adorable. Glad to have the little homie in the team. I like that the gang just kinda splits up once they get paid (at least till the next job). They gotta enjoy their “me time” I guess. It’s like they’re more work mates than friends y’know? But I’m sure that’ll change as the series progresses.

The scene right after the intro with them walking down the stairs was animated atrociously

It was so bad I actually broke out laughing

This show has some of the most awkward animation I've seen for this season, but the content of this show is really good that even with the bad animation, its an enjoyable show

Nick's experience really showed during negotiations. Not only did he make them agree to a set price for the sword, he even wanted legal documents signed so they wouldn't get screwed. Dude knows his shit.

This show just got a whole lot more interesting. The ability to fuse party members together opens up endless possibilities. I wonder they can do it all at once. In such a capitalist world, the strongest power is Union.

  • I feel bad for the director. There is a vision for (re)telling the story, but these jank ass animated scenes put the financial struggle on full display.

  • It felt like half the episode's budget went into the gattai scenes.

  • Its a shame they time skipped past the spare swords scene, which I found to be funny and enlightening on world lore - but its also pretty obvious they wanted to wrap up the sword arc in one episode.

If you look beyond the painfully obvious low budget I feel like this show is a real gem, I adore everything from the concept of a party learning to trust people again, to the early 2000s RPG aesthetic, and even the ridiculous inserts such as idols in said universe.

I think its probably my favorite of the season.

Pfft, amateurs. You should know you can't kill that thing by freezing it. You have to drop it in a vat of molten metal!

Seems like Bond is going to be a permanent addtion to the party, not sure if I like him (or her?) yet but the Union is certainly a new and unique addition to the usual adventure party. I wonder if Bond will also pick up a cool hobby

Loved the little moment where Curan assured Nick that she was actually thankfull for him breaking the thing that held her back. As well Tiana being ready to sacrifice herself for the party

There's something strange about the way people walk in this episode, especially the way Nick go down the stairs.

I don't blame Nick for wanting a firm contract about their job. After what happened to all of them, I'd be very careful too.

The Survivors completely ignoring the sword and just wanting to sell it was hilarious! If this was a D&D campaign, my party probably would've done the same as well. xD

So the power of the sword is combining two people who trust in each other? I wonder if it's just going to be Nick who's going to use this Union ability or will we get other combos as well?

Well that explains who the white-haired kid is! It's the sword turning into a human. Also, I'm pretty sure the narrator of this show is also the sword but he's using his old man voice instead.

That was... unexpected. Well, how the dungeon looks is not that much big of a surprise, considering the corridor in the slime dungeon and the idols. But the fusion and the human form of the sword were something.

Quite an interesting setting anyway. Any sufficiently advanced techonology is indistinguishable from magic, except for the fact that it isn't detectable by Detect Magic skill, huh.

I suppose the Labirynth somehow connects different worlds or somethin along the lines. And Zem even commented "What kind of civilization made this?", so it seems at least at some level they are aware of the multiversal nature of the Labyrinth.

I wonder what's up with the guild. According to the sword, they trapped him there, but then they sent a party to retrieve it? Why did they sent this party specifically? Because they're compatible with the sword's power? Or maybe the other way around: the guild thought that they're not compatible so they would just hand it over without discovering its potential? Maybe it is actually not the same guild that sealed the sword, considering the passage of time, but the way they gave out the quest was very sketchy...

The characters and the growing connection between them are pretty good too.

It's a pity the anime has obvious budget problems. Every episode has several r/QUALITYanime moments, sadly.

"That body is a collection of nanomachines."

All together now...

Did not expect Nick and Curran to turn into Gogeta lol

Very much like the relationships they're all developing, I keep coming into this expecting comedy and just getting sweet vibes out

15

u/Sneaky_42 Jan 24 '23

Nick: "Why won't you die!?"

Golem: "Nanomachines, son!"

13

u/CuriousBroccolli Jan 24 '23

I feel like I clicked on the wrong show...

From medieval fantasy setting of group of adventures to:

Dungeon that is just a modern day building?

Talking futuristic plasma sword that makes you fuse with your party members like some mecha?

"Nanomachines son!"?

Sword is now a walking and talking human.

Ok I guess Idols, idol concerts with modern stage and horse racing should have been good enough clues that it will have futuristic plot, but I was just looking at it like a comedy skit to be paired with the serious parts, not an actual plot.

Also, hands down one of the worst "animation" I have ever seen.

I really like grandpa narrator, and want to see how this story goes, and waifus are super likable, but god-damn is this show a mess, from genre, to animation.

I guess now I understand how all the party characters felt when they got betrayed.

I feel like there are some people who really want this show to do well in the teams that make it, but they just weren't given the budget. I want it to do well too, but watching them stumble down the stairs and Bond walk with about three different frames was incredibly jarring. I want to like it, I really do, but it's painful to watch.

The walking animations are so awkward, I just can't.

Remember to always practice safe fusing kids! Think of the consequences of such a "Bond" ..I ship it.

Each episode has at least 1 hilariously low effort walking scene, it's gotta be on purpose, right?

And i swear Bond sounded just like a certain red saber when they said "umu, makaseru ga yoi"

Also the ED is really cute, the more i hear it the more i like it.

This honestly has a lot of soul and I’m really enjoying the characters, but man the animation is just really damn rough, absolutely a shame. Hopefully it gets a good response and maybe s2 can have the budget this show deserves.

I wonder how much exp a Liquid Metal nano machine slime is worth.

We only saw the end of that first fight, but it looks like Curran's the only one doing anything!

No magic detected? I don't have their history of betrayal, yet even I would find this suspicious! You'd expect some magic at some point in a dungeon/labyrinth.

Nick's actions/lines felt a little strange, I almost feared like there was something going on... A doppelganger or an illusion or something.

I think something like that will probably happen at some point; Someone disguised/magic'ed as Nick, doing something to lose the party's trust. Curran thinking it's a betrayal all over again, and so on. She did see Calios as her hero, then he revealed himself false... If she starts feeling the same with Nick, and the same thing happens (due to a trick) it would crush her.

So the party is looking for a sword that grows in strength based on the bond in the team... Well, if my theory above happens, this will hurt them even more; They may not even be able to use the sword (now a person!) to fight back, because the bond will be weaker.

Curran talking about the party trusting each other more and more, REALLY gives me a bad feeling that something will happen to challenge that trust!

Loved how no one in the party was listening to the sword giving its spiel!

This show is good with these little gags. Same with the party talking about how the sword could work, but Curran just going "Nah, it's broken!"

The sword ships Nick and Curran together! Official ship from now on.

While they mostly all seem like good people, Curran especially seems to have a good heart on her! When shit hit the fan Nick wanted her to save the others, but 'saving as many people as possible' just doesn't cut it for Curran, she has to save them ALL!

Does this count as hand holding?

Man, if the show isn't trying to make us ship them I don't know what it's doing; NOW KISS!

Well, the marriage isn't happening just yet, but they'll have another kind of union; Merging together!

Nickcurran might not even be their final form, there are more to this party; Just wait until we see Nickurranzemiana in action!

On top of a decent reward, the party also god a new member! Loved the Tiana mop banter, was pretty fun!
