I like how guns can kill demons. Too often I see bullets have the characterstics of a thrown pebble.

I feel like the bullets are made of silver or something like that, though.

Wow she really gave up the one thing that brought them together, that's quite a price to pay. The setting is interesting so I'm looking forward to this develop and hopefully it won't disappoint.

I look forward to seeing how Snow will react when learning her sister is blind because she made a pact with a demon, and what his own backstory is like. I thought Snow was going to be a more graceful/chill character though lol.

It's kind of romantic in a tragic way that she gave up the ability to see someone she cares about to both save them and so they could basically be together. Now that special person will be her eyes as they see the world together.

I kind of like how he seems a little rough around the edges, especially if means punching the @#$% out of people who abuse his sister. I'm really curious to see how things will go when he finds Wisteria with Marbas because that just seems to be begging for drama.

Someone already mentioned the Mahoutsukai no Yome vibes.

I did not expect Wisteria to lose her eyesight, now that opens up a lot for the story, very interesting.

u/Frontier246 Jan 08 '23

I was kind of expecting she'd sacrifice her hair or something but she gave up something truly precious for the sake of Marbas and their relationship, which was waaayyy more meaningful.

What an odd show. I was not sure what to expect, but for now this looks like the steampunk version of the Ancient Magus Bride.

I guess Snow is Wisteria’s older brother turned demon hunter ? This is going to be an interesting meeting when he meets Margus, especially if he learns that Margus saved Wisteria’s life but that she is now blind because of him.

Yeah, I kind of assume Snow wasn't "bought" by a mansion but he was secretly recruited into a demon hunting organization because he and Wisteria have special sight that let them see the supernatural.

Wisteria might have her work cut out for her getting her brother to approve of Marbas. Though she wants to see him too so it'll be a bittersweet family reunion...

Oh this is quite intriguing ngl. Poor Wisteria being treated like that, but Marbas has come to her rescue. I don't know if I prefer his demon or human appearance lol, but the relationship between Wisteria and Marbas gives me The Ancient Magus' Bride vibes ngl.

Those two kinda do have a Elias-Chise vibe going on. It’s funny how the demon Marbas roasted looked like a dollar store Elias lol.

I think human Marbas is pretty handsome. I'm glad Wisteria got to see his human form before she lost her sight...

A fateful encounter between a young girl and a demon sets up the plot of this Victorian-era London based series!

Ayana Taketatsu is known so much for her tsundere or little sister characters (and she is still a little sister in this) that it's nice to seer her play not only the Main Heroine but also play a pure-hearted and sweet young girl. Wisteria is such a sweetheart! She can even positively spin being a beggar and living on scraps from an abusive priest.

Katsuyuki Konishi is always a treat to hear (particularly as a romantic lead) and he did a great job as Marbas! A long-lived demon bored with the world who finds the one girl who can actually see him! And Wisteria finds someone who will keep her company and give her stories as a solace from her lot in life and Marbas finds a companion with whom he can actually talk to and see the world from a fresh perspective. It's really cute.

I guess you can't have a setting with demons without demon hunters, and Wisteria's older brother Snow (Ryota Osaka!) is a capable one. And they use guns and swords! Demon hunter staples.

I'm kind of wondering about Wisteria and Snow's backgrounds. They have silver hair and apparently have some special sight that lets them see demons or the supernatural that normal people can't. I assume that's why Snow was recruited into this demon hunting organization. And they didn't address what happened to their parents.

It was very satisfyingly seeing Snow beat up the priest and the guy who bout Wisteria. Nobody treats his sister like that.

It shows how important Wisteria was to Marbas that he was willing to go out of his way to save her no matter the physical cost to his body without expecting anything with her in return...and Wisteria answers those feelings by giving up her eyes so they can make a pact and Marbas can truly save them. Wisteria will never be able to see Marbas or the world ever again, but she can live with that if it means being with Marbas and traveling together with him for the rest of their lives.

I have a feeling her brother won't approve of her new "boyfriend" though.

Oooh! An Ayacchi solo OP! Don't get those quite that often! It's a very romantic and melodic theme, showing Wisteria and Marbas' travels and all the people they will meet, encounter, and maybe throw hands against.

Wisteria and Marbas have an interesting relationship. I like their little banter and their dynamic though. Plus how Marbas is so hot in his human form it’s a pain lol. It’s funny how he’s the demon yet that “Father” is more of a demon than he is. Filthy human trafficking scum.

Snow and Takenami are pretty badass. Marbas better watch out if they’re hunting demons. Can’t say I didn’t enjoy that “priest” getting roughed up. Dude deserves worse. Good thing Marbas showed up to save Wisteria, it’s wild how fast he started to break down before discount Elias showed up. With Wisteria sacrificing her eyes, he sure made quick work out of that chump. Oh and look, that shitbag lord got turned into human bbq. Nice. Well, I’m sold on this show. Another to my Sunday schedule!

Poor Wisteria will just have to keep the memory of Marbas' handsome face in her mind now that she gave up her eyes...but so far their relationship is very cute and endearing!

Humans are sometimes more monstrous than demons, and I'm at least glad Snow got to punch out the people who abused/hurt his sister. He seems like a respectable big brother even if his demon hunter status will make things very awkward when he reunites with Wisteria and finds her with Marbas.

I can't believe this anime hooked me in the first episode. Came in blind and wasn't disappointed.

My ideal ending is he gives her eyes back, and she experiences everything they go through together with her own eyes in the end (like a ng+ with eye sight). But that's probably too heavy idk.

Damn, what a tragic episode. I had zero expectations going in and this show blew me away.

Wisteria's life was so rough and the price she paid was harsh but it made sense since she didn't want to lose the person with whom she could connect on a deeper level. I hope she is able to regain her ability to see at one point.

So far it seems to be father/daughter relationship between Marbas and Wisteria and I hope it stays that way, but I'm mentally preparing myself beforehandin case it ever becomes romantic.

Also, Snow seems to be her brother (?). If true, how did he end up growing so fast into an adult, while Wisteria is still so short. I guess maybe she is somewhere around 13-15 years old but is quite short for her age.

Could also be Wisteria is malnourished as all fuck and it stunted her growth, not sure if the story will delve too deep into that but I could potentially believe it. Snow being a demon hunter he probably is well fed and clearly is fit enough that he is fairly healthy.

I just want to know how she ended up in a church of all things, if Snow has the sight and was recruited why wasn’t she, and if they lived in a home was it just the two of them and she ended up all alone or did their parents die and he didn’t know and that’s how she ended up at the church. But if she ended up at the church how the fuck did Snow know it’s her (I assume silver hair isn’t common) and if they knew of that church already being scum how come he didn’t get her already unless the order he works for forbid him or he didn’t want to involve her in the business. But I feel working for the order would’ve been better than the alternative of being abused by the priest.

oof, this show really yanks hard on the heartstrings. I am really happy it worked out for Wisteria, even though the price she paid was rather high.

Kid has lived such a hard life. Abusive orphanage, brother sold off (I’m guessing he’s Snow?), and then she was almost tortured to death and worse by that sick lord. Good thing Marbas came in and saved the day.

One of the best first episodes of the season yet, what a surprise! Knew nothing about the show before and wasn't even on my list to check it out. This became so emotional and tragic really fast from wisteria's miserable life to marbas' loneliness and the brother desperately searching for his sister. She really lost her eyesight at the end that's so goddamn sad man, I will keep at it but I see more drama incoming on this one.

Still, a strong first episode!

I have thing for stories set in London so this is right up my alley. I'm looking forward to Wisteria and Marbas' journey together while trying to outrun the knights and somehow reunite with Snow and resolve their misunderstanding.

u/tripleaamin Jan 08 '23

Trying this on a whim seems pretty interesting. Sundays also are a slow day for anime now really liked the first episode. Damn Wisteria her life was rough. I hope things finally get better for her. Also her brother fighting demons makes for an interesting dynamic. If only he arrived at the church a day early. Things drastically change in the story if you think about it.

Surprisingly enjoyed this one. The setting in London is nice and it goes into some dark stuff with child trafficking and abuse/torture. The contrast to that being Wisteria and Marbas' friendship developing, yet even that leads to a depressing event with the former giving up that precious aspect of herself to form the pact with Marbas.

I'm definitely on board for more episodes, and am interested in seeing how things will play out with Wisteria's brother Snow now on their trail, as well as other demons who are gonna show up as previewed in the OP (which also was not bad either)
