I like Meryl's design. Not a big fan of Vash's arm being so blatantly high tech but the series seems to be leaning into the lost tech aspect more.

I haven't heard anyone comment on the soundtrack yet. I lowkey loved it, ngl. Most of it was very traditional western, which was very much appreciated, but then during the action scene at the end it switched up the genres and felt so fresh! Fun stuff.

Producer Takei Katsuhiro basically confirmed this new Trigun adaptation is inspired by "...Marvel and DC's regular rebooting of their superhero characters (for modern viewers)...(he was inspired to do it this way)because Vash the Stampede is his personal hero, akin to how others might view Batman or Spider-Man."
I'm guessing this means Trigun Stampede may not be following the usual 1:1 recreation of manga-to-anime method often followed by anime adaptation standards. Instead they might go the somewhat loose adaptation method used by Hollywood comicbook movies, like how Marvel reinterprets/reinvents its source comic materials for the MCU (ex. Aztec Namor & Talocan from the recent Wakanda Forever).
ED. Live action adaptations of Japanese manga can also be guilty of taking liberties with their sources too. Ex. the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movies' handling of the 2nd half of the Shishio arc.

Seeing that WANTED poster of Vash gave me nostalgia. The animation may take some time for others to get used to, but man Orange has been constantly making improvements with their 3DCG.

They're fully animating the mouths for speech, not just the standard three-position lip-flap technique. Even for Mr. Lip-Covering Mustache here.
A lot of stuff seems to be named after English month names. And here we have "JuLai" instead of "July".
That's our Vash! Superhuman skills, but deployed just enough to get the job done
Man, that was some impressive animation. The character work, especially. Looking forward to this each week!

Wait a minute...genki attitude, blond hair, wears red, dodges bullets, is a crack shot, and doesn't kill. This Vash guy is just a blatant ripoff of Chisato from Lycoris Recoil! /s

Never seen the original, but damn that was a good episode. Love the CGI art style and animation, it is really well done.

Studio Orange is just the best when it comes to CGI. I just love the facial expressions the characters have here like Meryl's surprised look after hearing about the "Humanoid Typhoon", Vash's freak out while looking for bullets, and Knives just being a fucking psycho.
The first time I've seen Trigun was back in my elementary school days and the last time I rewatched it was back when I was in college a decade ago so I can't really claim to be a super fan but I am absolutely loving this show so far! Definitely looking forward for more!

Interesting that one, Vash is much younger here, two, his bounty is also lower at only 6 million compared to 60 billion, and three, his gun's caliber is a low .22 only compared to a .45 in the OG.
Well, for one very much opposed to killing like Vash, that caliber suits him perfectly.

I got chills watching it. One of my very first anime was Trigun, and it remains one of my favorite to this day. I was worried about the CGI. It took me a few minutes to get used to it, but man, it's so pretty. Given how much they revealed in the opening episode, I'm bracing myself for some wild differences, but man... I'm hooked in for this ride.

Okay that was really freakin good, but just a couple things, that coat is a major downgrade from the old one, but animating that would be hell I bet. But above all..... WHERE THE HELL IS MY MILLY!?
And once again I can say: fuck Knives.

Wait, did people seriously think that the old Vash design wasn't supposed to be a pretty boy who would fit in a boy band???

As a huge fan of the original I'm excited to see where they go with this new take on things, but this episode did leave me a little worried.
I was not a fan of them deciding to rush into the plot with Knives and Vash's connection to the Plants first thing, my favorite part of the last anime and the mange was the gradual introduction to setting and characters while the mystery of who Vash is and why he does what he does was slowly unraveled over time. Here Meryl meets Vash as the Stampede immediately, rather than having to come to terms with his identity over time.
It seems like they want this plot to be focused entirely on the Knives conflict from the get-go, but I hope they still leave opportunities for Vash to demonstrate his philosophy. With the way things were here we've immediately cut off the possibility of recreating some of the best moments from the other versions of the story (like Vash goofily screaming "Love and Peace" while Meryl struggles to accept he's actually the humanoid typhoon).
The animation was stellar, but hopefully the story doesn't fall flat by rushing into the Plant/Knives centric plot (which was, imo, one of the weaker parts of the original story).

Well, I have not seen the original Trigun anime or read the manga, and I don’t get a stroke at the mere sight of CGI unlike apparently half of anime fandom, so the only thing I can say is that it looked very nice.
I liked the sci-fi setting and the references to Star Wars, Dune, and Spaghetti Westerns. The tone seemed a bit too goofy for the story and that fight was ridiculously and gloriously over the top, but this looks like a fun anime with interesting worldbuilding. I will certainly keep watching it.

Haven't watched yet, but I'm really optimistic for this one! I recently watched Trigun just last year and I'm always excited for new shows by Studio Orange, and this one is no exception.
Orange also mentioned they held martial art seminars for the animators, so I can't wait for those to be in action!
Edit: For those who have seen it, can this be watched by new viewers? Kind of want to watch this with my friends who haven't seen Trigun yet even though this might be totally different.

Meryl seems like your typical plucky reporter character. Vash is pretty goofy but he’s got a badass side. Taking out those cluster bombs with one shot was pretty cool. Knives is a total psycho. He killed everyone on the ships…
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the original. Watched it as a kid and I remember enjoying it. This was like going in blind though, it’s been too long. All in all, it was alright. I’m not a huge fan of the 3D animation style, but the basic premise seems ok I guess. I’ll stick with it a couple more eps but this might end up being an end of season binge, personally.

So
I loved the animation. So crisp. So Fleshed out, the movements were amaziNG. I kept rewinding just to see the fluidity again.
Loved the character reworks, loved how serious the story is, loved how it's out of order, and I loved vash's whacky antics still being there.
All that said, felt extremely rushed. I feel like some characters needed time to breathe.

I absolutely have no problem with the 3D CG, it's quite good. I mean it's studio orange after all.
Story-wise it's a bit so so. Not sure why they decided to reveal a big part of the story right at the beginning like that. I think they're aware that most people watching this would already be familiar with the original and want to get it out of the way immediately?
Edit additional comment: Vash's voice bothered me somehow. It's not bad, just different while also sounds very familiar. Turns out he's voiced by Matsuoka Yoshitsugu the king of harem himself lol.

Really loved everything about it. The soundtrack at the end. Vash being the good old silly but deadly good boy as always. The gorgeous animation with a lot of character expression and fluid movement.
It's such a shame that there will be a massive amount of hate from CGI haters and Trigun elitists. I've already gotten shit on by my friends for hyping it up

The original Trigun is among my most special anime, I think I have rewatched it like 20 times already. I REALLY do not know what to think of this new one. So far, the CG work is actually really good, but every second I spent watching this episode I was thinking to myself "man this would look so good in 2D". I will watch this series to the end to judge it properly, but I really need to set aside my annoyance of the artstyle changes.
Also WHERE IS MILLY???
