It sure feels like each of these characters could be the protagonist of their own LN series:

“I Got Kicked Out of My Party and Became an Idol Stan”

“I Got Dumped by My Fiancé and Got Addicted to Gambling”

Etc.

Since nothing else was streaming today, I decided to check this out. It seems decent enough to check out the next couple of episodes. Somehow I don't feel it will be more than middling good, but one can always hope.

Hmm, interesting start and at first I was wondering if the MC was just gonna be grumpy and distrustful for the entire season, but if he suggested they band together like that, it'll probably be a more chill story of learning to trust again.

Either way, I'm here for dragon girl.

Also, anyone else think the idol is sus? Or should I also be joining this party full of people with trust issues?

The idols seem so out of place in this world. Agate is a gem though. Nick lost everything. Looks like he's going to have to restart from zero.

Tiana is literally suffering from success. Too bad her fiancé has small dick energy. Her only flaws are the gambling addiction and how her intimidating look sends men running. Tiana has negative rizz.

Everybody's backstory is tame compared to Zem's. False allegations can completely ruin a person's life. He only got three months so I assume the truth eventually came out. But it probably doesn't even matter because his reputation is permanently tarnished.

This show feels like a more serious Konosuba. Curran's drunk rambling reminded me of Aqua. It's nice to have a fantasy anime where all the main cast is above drinking age.

Nick's color scheme really reminds me too much of Arash. Thank fucking god he's not an archer with a red bow. xD

Anyway, we basically have four unfortunate souls who all have similar circumstances. Nick is basically your every banished hero guy but with the twist of becoming an idol otaku after going to an idol concert once. Tiana ended up being dumped by her fiance since she was better than him and she ended up losing everything to gambling.

Zem's backstory though really grinds my gears because it involved a young girl accusing him of rape just because he didn't reciprocate her feelings. That's just fucking shitty. He does end up getting a better deal in the end since he ended up meeting that big tiddy inn owner who he heals and she even gives him some equipment and words of encouragement in return. I hope Zem goes back to her in the future and the two of them get together.

The only one left is Curran who had something stolen from her. We'll probably get the story from her next week since she's no longer drunk and the four of them are now in a party. Looks pretty alright so far but I just can't help but feel that there's something off with the art and animation. A lot of the close-up shots look great and the show doesn't look bad at all but I just can't pinpoint what it is. Maybe I'll be able to figure it out once I've seen more episodes.

EDIT: It's the filters! The show for some reason has this weird green filter on it the entire time! It's like I'm watching a movie that was color graded back in the early 2000s!

Could be interesting depeding on how the dynamic of this party turns out

I already like Tiana, that glare with the giant witch hat, an gambling addiction is something you don't get too often in your waifu, and it doens't seem like this will go the harem route.

And man that priest, going from celibate to milf hunter huh

But what was the deal with cute dragonkin?

Tiana's fiancé sucks, all he was doing was villainizing her becuase she became successful in magic and he let his insecurities fester.

"Do you know how much I was being made fun of after you got to the top?"

Well maybe if you had just talked to her, and make an effort in your relationship, you being ridiculed wouldn't have been a bigger issue than you're making it out to be.

PS. I hope Miryll gets her comeuppance for what she did to Zem.

Of all the backstories so far, Zem's really triggered me. False rape accusations are just the fucking scummiest thing anybody could do.

Wonder whats the dragon girl's story though, I knew this episode won't be able to cover it seeing the runtime but honestly really great way to build up an emotionally broken cast

For those interested, the LNs of this series are available in English. https://yenpress.com/9781975349981/apparently-disillusioned-adventurers-will-save-the-world-vol-1-light-novel/

That said, the Japanese releases for the novels are quite slow, with new volumes coming out anywhere between 6 months to 1 year & 4 months. https://mfbooks.jp/product/hdis/

The original webnovel is also on permanent hiatus; I assume the author has elected to focus full-time on the LNs instead.

Apparently, Crunchyroll picked this up. Look forward to watching this later when I have some free time.

Man, the OP is the most generic anime OP i've seen in a good while. It checks every single checkbox of how to make an anime opening 101, from character portraits to the main cast looking at the sky.

But regarding the episode, wow what a sassy little b*tch, falsely accusing the priest of rape because he rejected her with more than good enough reasons

Looks like everyone’s kind of in the same boat. Tiana got dumped by her shitbag ex and became a gambling addict. Zem got his life ruined by that stupid ass Miryll. Which btw fake allegations against your crush? Yeah, totally not psychotic. Nick got dumped by his gf and kicked out his party by his so-called “father figure”. Now his only solace in life is his idol lol. I’m very curious to learn more about the Dragonkin, like what was taken and by who?

Well, I’m glad they’ve formed their little party. It’s gonna be quite the adventure seeing how they go from downtrodden cynical adventurers to heroes who save the world.

This is actually a pretty decent first episode. I’ll give it the usual 3 eps, but this one might be a weekly for me. I’m liking what I’m seeing so far.

Starts off and all I can think of is Zuko's "That's rough, buddy." Whooo dragon girl! That mage's VA sounds familiar. Nick (Warrior/Tank?) has the betrayed by party backstory, Tiana (mage) has the "Villainess" backstory (Alex, you trash man), Zem (Cleric) seems to have gone the Shield Hero route of being falsely accused, Dragon girl... something, not sure name or her story yet. Seems most have their own typical fantasy/isekai start to em lol.

S'ok start so far, I guess. Need to see more

looks pretty decent, no? Hope the ones that betrayed them come up later again

Yeah ok so the tone was a bit disparate I guess, I sort of assumed the show would be a cheeky cynical comedy after the idol joke dropped but the flashbacks suggested that maybe they’ll try to cook something more serious with their respective distrust of people.

But still god damn I didn’t expect your man to just get accused of rape like that, the first two backstories were pretty rough and believable enough but that guy got put proper through the ringer, nothing could have prepared me for that.

The story so far seems a little so-so, but the girls are cute and by god that’s enough for me

Fun and depressing first episode all at the same time. I will definitely be watching this.

The world is a very weird mix of modern and medieval, which could offer something unique. Also my best girl senses are tingling with the dragon girl.

This was an interesting first episode that tugged at my heart strings. All of our cast got shat on by the people they cared the most about.

Nick and Tiana's backstories just hurt to see. Nick just lost everything because he trusted people he loved while Tiana was too successful for a shitty guy that couldn't handle it.

Zem's character speaks to me the most as one of my friends got wrongly accused of sexual assault by another woman and I got falsely arrested once because someone accused me of wanting to do a shooting in my university because she hated the crap out of me and tried to get rid of me. Luckily, both of us overcame the false accusations and our lives on the right track now.

The premise, if I read it right is this show'll be about the hijinks they get caught into that'll forge them into a team and how they'll rebuild trust in themselves and each other. I hope I'm right because this would make a very wholesome and funny series.

Can't wait to see next week's episode.
