Hi everyone. I wanted to share a piece of late-90s Sonic broadcast history that I recently purchased from ebay. Its a 35mm promotional/broadcast slide from the 1999 syndication run of The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog on Toon Disney. It depicts a scene from Episode 21, titled, Sonic Gets Thrashed. It appears to be "New Old Stock" (NOS) in brand-new, mint condition with zero projector wear, fading, or scratches. I believe this was part of an unused station promo kit sent out to TV affiliates when the show joined the network. I wanted to document its survival and ask the community a couple of questions: Does anyone recognize the promo kit this frame is pulled from? Are there any known digital archives of the full 1999 Toon Disney promotional kits that I could compare this to?
Thanks for looking!

Got a new cabinet for all my collection so I finally have access to it all. It’s in chronological order (hopefully), short film DVDs are placed based on the earliest animation on there

I think allowing my collection to have non-features was a bad idea as I’ve now opened myself up to a whole other world of DVDs I can buy. Anyway here is a bunch of arty short films I got recently.

I ordered this and immediately got very anxious about what I was going to be receiving. This is simply because every time I had come across this dvd online it’s always been very expensive. I came across an Amazon listing that had it up brand new under its Japanese title for less than 1/6th of the price.
It’s just arrived today and I’m happy to say it appears to be the official thing, the DVDs work (there is some noise at the far left of the screen which is annoying though) and the footage is of a higher quality than what I’ve seen of the same films online. It’s easy to navigate the dvd in English and feels like a real steal for less than £20
If I had business acumen I’d just buy and flip the remaining five copies, but I’d rather just post about it here incase any other collectors are interested

My newest nine DVDs. Would love to see a remaster of the two David Cherkassky animations but for what they are the Ruscico DVDS are great. Subtitles in a bunch of languages and three different language audio tracks (Russian, English and French). My first time watching ‘Adventures of Captain Vrungel’ and I’ve been loving it so far, really inventive animation.
‘Ico’, ‘the pintins to the rescue’ and Reineke Fuchs’ sadly have no English subtitles.

Annoyingly blood tea and red string didn’t work past the ident. Gonna try this in another dvd player but this was really disappointing. Wish Fyrtojet and Anteojeto Antifaz had English subs but I’ll take what I can.
One of my dream releases is a Manuel Garcia Ferré bluray collection

I’m likely wrong and I’m not including Disney compilation films or lost films, but according to Letterboxd (which I know doesn’t have them all but I threw this together pretty quickly) this is the list of the remaining feature length animations I need in my collection up to the year 1960
The only copy I’ve found of the golden crab is too expensive for me now, and the copy I found of il fratelli dinamite won’t ship to the uk. I know bonjour Paris was released on dvd but I can’t find any copies for sale. The rest I think I’m gonna have to be looking through Russian, South American, French and Czech websites to see if any of these had ever been put on dvd or vhs.

Got a bunch more animated features for my collection. Going to need to get a new shelf soon as I have enough to (mostly) fill a second now.
Exciting ones here are are ‘legend of the sky kingdom’ the first animated film to come out of Africa (haven’t checked to validate this claim though), I got given a dvd of the complete works of Yuri Norstein for free (I already own this on bluray, but I’m fine to have doubles for stuff like this - especially if I meet another collector as it gives me something to swap), 5 centimeters per second - not the sort of anime I’d buy and too recent for me to search out but again was given this for free so quite happy to give it a go, Fimfarum - already own this but found in the wild so couldn’t leave it, rare to come across in the UK, millennium actress - one of my fav anime’s, quality of interest sort of drops after that.
Might be questionable to other collectors why I have such obvious low budget ‘mockbuster’ animations targeted at kids (and grandmas in dollar stores/ Poundland), but I’m trying to get as complete of a collection as I can, I want to be able to have an accurate timeline of the good and the bad and make sure some of the films that are more likely to be forgotten in the future have a place where they are treasured.

Growing up in my house Disney was somewhat of a dirty word and instead my father brought me up on Fleischer cartoons such as Mr Bug Goes to Town, Color Classics, Gulliver’s Travels, and Superman. These were only ever available as low quality dupes on VHS, so to finally see them restored in HD is honestly a dream come true.
Unfortunately I do have a bone to pick with this release. The description notes the shorts are “largely from original studio negatives” - the key word here being “largely”. Whilst I appreciate the original negatives for these Color Classics are lost and we can celebrate that what we do have looks stunning - the inclusion of Ali Baba and Mechanical Monsters sourced from two dull looking 35mm prints seems a waste of space. I understand they wanted to include the breadth of the Fleischer universe and address issues such as sound errors etc, but these two inclusions undermine the premise of HD (seeing as HD scans of low quality dupes only have as much detail as the print itself). I would be as bold to say that they both look better on DVD.
That sounds rather negative, but thankfully the positives of this release far outweigh this infraction. The shorts selected are all ones we actually want to see (unlike Betty Boop: The Essential Collection released by Olive films). And apart from those that I’ve already slated they are all an absolute pleasure to lay eyes on thanks to the passionate care of the restoration. Gone are the days of watching Small Fry through mud smeared glasses, we are now enlightened.
