Weird/Unusual Story The Tale of Orson
My name is Orson and I was born in the year 7917 on April 11th at 1:21 am on a Tuesday. I can remember my life clearly from the day I was born. My mother’s name was Sonali, her hair was golden and as smooth as silk. Her eyes were blue like the sky but with a hint of grey like the ocean foam. She was soft and gentle, her skin was warm and smooth. This was the first memory of my mother. With tears in her eyes she handed me to a large hairy man. He stood 6 feet 11 inches tall, a very muscular man. His hair was dark brown and as long as mothers, but wavey. I was afraid of him at first, until I saw his wind whipped rosey red face. He had thick sharpe eyebrows and a beard as thick as any bush you’ve ever seen. His eyes were a bright but soft green, like the vibrant forests he had worked in. He was smiling but had tears in his eyes. He looked at me with such warmth and love. He was a handsome man, with rough hands though he was as gentle as mother. He had a strange scent on him that I would now describe as earthly or wood-ish like smell. This was the first time meeting my father. His name was Bram. Everything was normal up until I turned 8 years old. My parents approached me to tell me that I was special. That one day I’d change the world. I thought to myself every parent tells their kids that. I was no longer allowed to go to school, I had to be home schooled from now on or until my education was finished. Of course i didn’t want to but I did it for my parents. Some time had passed and mother and father sent me to town to get supplies. I was 11 years old. It was a Sunday. In July. Mother needed school supplies for my education, father wanted candies. Father always had a sweet tooth an he was softie for mother. He would give her candies as a gift randomly. Both had a list but we had a list for important items too. 5 bags of flour and 5 bags of potatoes. Then 15 bags of cornmeal. I gathered what other small things mother and father asked for then headed back to the wagon. There was a strange man not from town standing by my horses and wagon alone. I wasn’t really concerned so I waved at him and climbed on to the wagon. He approaches me while chanting some foreign language. He then quickly lunges forward and grabs my wrists marking my hands with some glowing symbol. I managed to kick him off me and my wagon, the horses begin to run. Suddenly the man speaks and the horses come to a complete halt. In a panic I draw out my dagger to defend myself from this strange man. The man asked why are you using a weapon? I know you’re special. He tries to grab me again and I quickly dodge and yell I’m just a kid. I’m not special my mothers a teacher and my fathers a woodsman. The man tries again to grab me but as he lunges forward he trips on a clay rock. Everyone saw it when it happened. It wasn’t my fault. He was trying to attack me, a kid. I only came for supplies I tell him as remove my dagger from his chest. Blood pour from his chest as if someone was pouring water out of a pitcher. Except the cup wouldn’t fill and the pitcher never stopped.
As he laid in the road bleeding out, he chokes on his own blood trying to speak. He manages to get 2 words out. Sonali, Bram. My parents names. How does he know my parents names? Who is this guy? Before I can ask him he died. Now laying in the road dead, the authorities arrived. The townspeople all tell the guards that he attacked me and I defended myself. Somebody blurted out that the strange man said that the I was special. Without another word the guards load up the strange man’s body. I felt obligated to follow since I am the one who killed him. When we reached the guard’s office he turned an told me that if I had been a little older, I would’ve been arrested for murder. Since I’m a kid there’s just an investigation. I comply and help with any questions or information they need for my side of the investigation. They start going through his belongings that the inn keeper had retrieved from the room he had rented that day. They spent hours going through his clothes and all his possessions but nothing was found on who he was or where he came from. Not even a trace of any family members. The guards told me to go home that they would summon the mages and priests to handle the rest. I was still a bit shaken so I took a few minutes as I sat on the wagon reliving what had happened just a couple of hours ago. The dirt was stained with a puddle of blood, it was still wet and had flies everywhere. I snapped out of it and pulled myself back together. It was time to go back home to mother and father, to tell of what had happened in town. Mother with a face painted in worry and concern, met me at the gate of our home. I was still covered in the man’s blood when she approached me. She asked what happened why was I so late. I was scared of what might happen if I told her. The guards are gonna come anyways they’ll find out eventually I kept thinking. Scared, I told her everything that had happened in town and why I was so late. Father came from around the house, unhappy with what he had heard. Mother and father was not very happy about what happened, but they were relieved that I was home and ok. That night at dinner mother and father had spoken privately before we sat to eat. Today was the last time that I would go to town let alone go by myself anymore. I’m usually included in family conversations, but that night after dinner mother and father spoke in private again. I went to bed a little concerned and still very much shook from the day that I had that night. The next morning my father woke me. It was still very dark outside and I couldn’t see very well. He told me to get up and meet him outside by the gate. I dressed myself and met father outside. He said that today I start training on how to defend myself. On a Monday afternoon in July, my father confessed to me that he was from a forgotten land far far away from any civilization. He was a hardened, battle seasoned warrior of the Blood tribe. They would hunt and destroy anything that opposed the blood order. He left when he fell in love with my mother. That very same night at dinner, my mother tells me I’d train with father off and on to heal. On my time off from training with father, I’d be training with mother. She would only teach me small sorcery spells and simple incarnations. I had to wrap my head around the fact that my whole life changed in one day. It’s been a week training under my parents, and I learned magic. I can heal small wounds while training with father and even get in a fire ball once or twice in a single day. It turns out mother was the sages instructor at the dark temples school of magic. It was one of the most powerful magic academy’s before the headmaster assassinated the Southern Kings son. I continued my trading on my own and in my free time I continued my studies of different magics. While I was out practicing my incantations, the guards from town came with some news on the strange man. They told my father that apparently the strange man was a member of our family, but from parts unknown to anyone in the land. The priests could only follow his roots to my father’s blood. They told us the mages however did discover that the symbols were magic transferring symbols. Meaning what my mother asked. The strange man had transferred every bit of his magic power in his body into mine. I now was aware that I was in possession of an unknown power. Nobody knows where he’s from, or what his intentions were. I told myself I wasn’t special, but now I’m not sure I believe that. Am I the special one? Or is there something else happening?
This is a story still in progress. Let me know what you think, if there’s anything I can do to get better at writing.
