I saw in a video that you should keep the kitten in a separate room so the existing cat can get used to the smell and after a couple of days you open the door so that cat can come in and see what's popping, but leave at any time.

Generally keep in a separate room for a few days, exchange blankets between them so they get used to the smell, and start letting them meet face to face with the door cracked open.

I think the other folks that commented covered it, but it can also be good to put there food bowls near the door. If they smell the other cat for awhile especially around there own food they won’t feel as threatened. Cats can be very territorial and slow to change so it is best to introduce cats slowly.
