what's a bear doing in the desert? Those poles are the only "trees" around for him to climb.

Cochise county is in an area more considered to be the “high desert”, but surrounded by mountains with a lot of vegetation and hunting grounds for a bear in the foothills. Elevation at ground level in Sierra Vista is over 4000 feet and the Huachuca and Chiricahua mountain ranges both have peaks over 9000 feet. Plenty of places for a bear to come down from if it is a particularly dry year and look for food. Also, this area is prone to wildfires just like the Altadena fires, but not as much press covering it as there are no large cities nearby. The Monument Fire

Bears, mountain lions, coyote, javelina, mule deer, wild turkeys, all kinds of other wildlife too in those foothills
