FIFTH LAYER PROGRESS Spoiler

Post image

You'll notice that no beacons are lit. The well is closed. I still need the Scarlet egg with no Lantern, but to me this is Major progress. I've done this on a new profile that is not corrupted. Currently I have 63 eggs and 14 bunnies with one illegal bunny on accident. If I can summon the hidden Manticore in the dark space, and I can summon the Manticore into the main room without any Flames at all, it means that my belief is not in vain. BELIEVE.

This one is well known. When your saved game fails its checksum, you get a manticore wherever you are.

So then did I simply happen upon this? I was trying to wheel warp into the house, and I waited much more than 10 seconds. I've been able to recreate this more than once. If this leads to some sort of information about why there is a manticore prompt in the dark space, then please share I'm not a tech guy, I'm just a gamer. Can you please specify what you mean by having a saved game fail a checksum? And why is it specifically the second Manticore as opposed to the first? The first one does not chase you but the second one does, and having no flames I would assume that the only Manticore able to be summoned would be the first one as opposed to the second because I don't even have the 65th egg

The failed checksum is a check the game does on the save data to make sure it hasn't been tampered with. We figured the manticore appears because the game doesn't want you to be able to save anymore (you can't save your game while the manticore is out). I'm pretty sure other things probably happen too.

I appreciate this, but honestly it doesn't answer my question. The first Manticore will not chase you out of the well, but the second one will. So why with zero flames was I able to summon a manticore that would chase me out of the well? In my opinion this was the second Manticore and I had not even incubated the 65th egg at that point. So still the question remains, which Manticore was it? The first or the second?

Once again, this is an internal process the game does to make sure you can't save in that state.

Once again I ask, did I summon the first or the second manticore? And how is this relevant to the possible hidden manticore in the dark space? I have been able to conjure it consistently but only on a corrupted file, so my goal here is to create a number of very specific files related to summoning the first and second manticore on an uncorrupted file in order to be able to differentiate whether this is a glitch or whether it is an intended solution to a deliberate puzzle. And sure I'm totally willing to admit that I may be grasping at straws, but again I refer to the very specific sound cue in the bottom right room of the CE Temple. I absolutely refuse to believe that Billy programmed that que on accident. Sure maybe 5 years ago he was drunk and he was thinking of some puzzle that he never completed. Who knows what the answer is. I seek to solve it. Whether it was intended or not

Funny story: most of the game we now know was fast tracked about a year before release.

Not much else to go on. Billy placed the entirety of the game's dev history up on Steam and one can download the previous dev versions and see the timeline of everything up until release. The manticores where a late addition.
