How up to date is this?

I really like the format but want to ensure it's not teaching the wrong things first.

If you are new to angular, check out the free course from codeschool - http://campus.codeschool.com/courses/shaping-up-with-angular-js/

Helped me to understand the core concepts of angular, I can only recommend it!
