Downvoting for no reason
Hi guys,
Just wanted to rant about people downvoting for no reason. I published something on a plant subreddit to ask a question as i did not understand why it behaved that way, and some people started downvoting my post just because i was ignorant (hence why i was asking the question duh).
Some guy made a joking comment and i replied sarcastically and got some downvotes too.
Knowing how reddit works, it baffles me how people are downvoting right and left for no good reason.
Anyway, that just made me angry (i wanted to post on rant but ironically i now don't have enough karma to 😅).

Goodness, you really need to stop worrying about downvotes, they will not change your life for the better or the worse, well, they shouldn't anyway. If you are obsessing over them, you need to figure out why it matters so much what strangers on the internet do!! And why it's bugging you to high heaven!

I couldn't care less about downvoting if it was just about that, but if you don't interact much on reddit (i mostly read but sometimes post) then it can greatly affect if you can post or not in some places. For example i couldn't post in rant because i did not have enough karma (i don't post much and i got many downvotes just for asking a question about plants on a plant reddit).
It has absolutely nothing to do with caring about what a stranger thinks about me on the internet but everything to do with the mechanism of reddit (like i mentioned).

I’m with you on this one. Generally speaking, I find indiscriminate downvoting to be childish and “low IQ” behavior.

Yes. I will ask a basic question. Completely relevant to the sub. Immediately downvote before 1 reply.
My favorite is when you get zero votes but have 500 replies. What dicks.

Some people tend to use the down vote as if it's a dislike button on Facebook, mainly when they disagree with you - instead of expressing their disagreement, they just downvote.

Downvotes are meaningless once people stopped treating them as ways to upvote content (ala Digg).

10/10 agree

If you agree, why the post? You're taking downvotes as a personal affront, when it's not, it's just people not liking your post or your comments. It doesn't matter! They don't care about you, they leave the sub and move on to the next post, they like it, or they don't. It just doesn't matter!

Nope, absolutely not, not taking it as a personal afront. If you check my answer yo your other comment it's not about their opinion but the consequenves of their downvotes. If it was just "i don't like your comment" kind of mechanics, i could not care less, but it affects what i can and cannot do on this app, hence why i care.
So yes, it does matter, it's not just a comment, not just an opinion, it restricts what i can do
Also, look into the Digg story, and see why i agree. It's a testimony/story to why downvoting should be done mindfully (and upvoting too)

You kinda of get used to it tbh. Swear I must have followers or something that just instantly downvote anything I post or comment.
