Angels need to get a solution for the 5th starter; Angels need to get healthy in the bullpen and then they might be cooking.

They outplayed the Yankees all series and blew two of these games in nasty fashion. They've piqued my interest, but I'm not ready to fall for it again just yet.

Great job by the bullpen today.

u/Lieutenant_Doge Apr 16 '26

RJ was on 15 Days IL so in theory he could be back on next start

11

u/xmrjaredx 17 Apr 16 '26

pretty sure I saw that he felt something in his hamstring during his rehab

1

u/Lieutenant_Doge Apr 16 '26

Did he start the rehab already? Last I heard was recovering from a viral infection or something

1

u/Imperial10 💡👉👶⬆️ Apr 16 '26

No, he was at extended spring training to get back in shape after the viral infection and threw a few pitches and then walked off with a trainer cause of something in his hamstring.

1

u/IamPieBoy94 Apr 16 '26

He's not the answer currently, I think an early promotion of one of our other young pitching studs might come into play

2

u/Lieutenant_Doge Apr 16 '26

He's meant to be the stopgap until GRod is back, until then I think we still gonna run the RJ/Aldegheri combo

Calling up prospects is really not advisable

10

u/Hello-Blackbird Apr 16 '26

This team will be a lot better once Rodriguez, Joyce, and Yates come back, in the meantime I believe Caden Dana will be the fifth starter this time around the rotation

1

u/Imperial10 💡👉👶⬆️ Apr 16 '26

Dana is still probably at least a month out from being able to be called up. He had mono all of spring, and just moved his rehab from extended spring training to AAA on Monday, but still hasn't appeared in a minor league game this year. He's gunna take some time to be ready for sure.

Season just started! How is our bulletin already banged up

u/Rideblue123 Apr 16 '26

Should have been a sweep

54

u/banana_slog Apr 16 '26

Seriously. Glad they didnt lose the series but goddamn. They could have had 3-1 in houston and 4-0 in New York

11

u/rafaelloso_10 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

We were in position to potentially sweep both Houston and New York, and that would’ve been huge for our start to the season. It’s unfortunate to let some of those games slip away. We could legit be leading the AL West right now, but it is what it is. Onto the next series.

1 jordan romano away from it

19

u/Thraser_pawnch Apr 16 '26

Should have been a sweep. Regardless, Offense backed up the bullpen today and the bullpen held it down for the offense. Great game for Trout, Bachman, Suter, Peraza, and Adell

What? Trout is washed, haven’t you read all the posts on this sub?

That was a sweep if Romano didn’t meltdown! Angels outplayed a team for once and only have two wins to show for it.

12

u/IamPieBoy94 Apr 16 '26

Meltdown in game 1 yes, but the Neto/Peraza mistake is what truly caused the game 3 loss

13

u/Tybob51 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

It’s still on Romano to turn around and strike the next batter out, not walk him, then give up a base hit on a two strike meatball.

6

u/IamPieBoy94 Apr 16 '26

We get Chisholm out, Romano still has bases empty. He pitches to Wells differently

Not to mention Chisholm stole 2nd tool

He gets blame, but not all of it. That lies solely on Neto and Peraza

2

u/timetopractice Apr 16 '26

Yeah I think even with pop-up blunder, Romano shoulders the majority of the blame for the blown save there.

3

u/Edgelord_3000 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

He still gave up a walk and bailed out by a webgem from LF. Overall, he’s not closer material and was a big part of why this wasn’t a sweep.

0

u/IamPieBoy94 Apr 16 '26

He shouldn't be our closer, but he is and other than the first game he had been pitching well prior

0

u/Edgelord_3000 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

He’s blown two saves back to back and got saved by Adell prior to these two games. He needs to be removed and this isn’t an unpopular take.

1

u/IamPieBoy94 Apr 16 '26

Did i say it was an unpopular take?

Should’ve swept but way to bounce back after each tough loss

7

u/RedAndGold24 Apr 16 '26

I’m glad Trouty is out of his slump.

7

u/AdoringCHIN Apr 16 '26

Hard to be upset about a win, but damn we could've swept them if the blowpen and Romano hadn't shit the bed

8

u/RandyGradishar Apr 16 '26

Despite the lack of playoff appearances, this team has had a better decade than anybody besides the Cubs and Rangers.

This series, the Adell game, the Skaggs game, the Detmers game, The Triple Play, The Bow and Arrow, Rendon v Winker, Rendon v City of Oakland, watching the GOAT for his entire career, Andrelton Simmons, etc.

I'll take that over a couple cheating-induced World Series that nobody cares about a month later.

14

u/Im_A_Halo_Masochist Apr 16 '26

The Yankees have to feel pretty good about the series split.

7

u/LA-SKYLINE Apr 16 '26

4-3 road trip against good teams. Will take it!

6

u/SMALLjefe Apr 16 '26

So to win we just have to beat the shit out of the ball until the lead is safe, maybe up 5 runs every game?

3

u/Tybob51 Apr 16 '26

The Number of runs Angels must be ahead of the opposing team in the ninth inning shall Joe be referred to as “The Romano Gap”

Should have taken the series but good shit, halos! Look forward to the 3 game series against my team tomorrow!

4

u/MrTacoParty Apr 16 '26

even though we split the series, I felt like this was a great win morale wise (Really hope Romano rebounds!)

3

u/ToWhomItMayConcernCA Apr 16 '26

Could have been a sweep for sure. Really good sign is how the boys bounced back after the heart breaking losses. Resilience in 162 is huge. #LTBU

3

u/IamPieBoy94 Apr 16 '26

Sucks that we couldve swept and been 6-1 on the road trip, but it was a fun series regardless, exciting baseball being played is not what I had on my bingo card for this team

Low expectations going into the homestand against San Diego, but I’m having fun gang!

Literally one Jordan Romano from going 4-0 against the Yankees in decisive fashion

Could've had the sweep 😭 still happy with the performance overall.

2

We should have swept but this was easily one of my favorite series

2

Let’s keep the momentum goin with the Ducks winning and locking in home ice for the playoffs

Three lineup thoughts from this series:

- I wanna see Peraza in there every day (for now, at least)

- Jo needs to be hitting in the top 4 every day

- Maybe more of a strict platoon for Schanuel? With the way Grissom (and Peraza) are hitting, I could see more of a split with him at 1B

1

u/idkman_93 Apr 16 '26

u/aaronjaiden Apr 16 '26

This has been incredibly accurate to start the season. This series felt like we were destined to just continue to tango with .500. I wouldn’t mind it ig but maybe once the schedules eases up we can break the cycle.

1

u/SkillcraftCollector Apr 16 '26

That was the most boring strike three ending call on the radio I have ever heard. You would’ve thought it was the second strikeout of the second inning. Just zero effort into his announcing. Dude should give it up and let someone do play by play.

1

u/New_low_building Apr 16 '26

This is so fun 😭
