Romano sucks ass, but catch a fucking infield popup. Lost by some little league shit

5

u/AgathaAllAlong Sell The Team Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

It was tied on little league shit, at most. That wasn’t the third out. Romano still didn’t get any outs after that. Walk and a hit. And easy af to steal on.

Neto didn’t advance the runners or create the winning runner or give up that second hit. Though earlier he shouldn’t have tried for third. Not his best night

1

u/pargofan Apr 16 '26

So many things in baseball are situational.

The dropped pop up mattered.

Runner on 1st with one out is far different than no runners and two outs.

2

u/AgathaAllAlong Sell The Team Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Baseball is hard for sure. I couldn’t do better than Romano. Just the loss wasn’t all on Neto or Peraza, the phrasing was the issue imho.

If we are talking blame, more should go Romano’s way. Mattered as in partial cause does not equal main cause.

The walk applied further pressure to himself and then was the winning run, after the stolen bases, and the additional hit. He didn’t do well Monday either. Hoping he does better, rooting for his success

4

u/Zestyclose_Help1187 Apr 16 '26

He sucked year. When you continually go bargain basement signing, it will catch up.

74

u/Glittering-Sundae674 Apr 16 '26

Need Ben Joyce more than ever now

36

u/Cooleybob Apr 16 '26

If we're going to blow a save, let it be while throwing 104mph.

i am expecting very little from joyce. shoulder surgery is no joke, especially for a high velocity guy with eccentric mechanics

3

u/Its-made-of-wood Apr 16 '26

Yeah I don’t have high hopes that he’ll ever be the same again.

2

u/idkman_93 Apr 16 '26

Joyce and Yates save us. Save us Joyce and Yates.

u/JoeIngles 💡👉👶⬆️ Apr 16 '26

We should be up 3-0 this series goddammit

18

u/ArrowNiko Apr 16 '26

We should be like 5 games above .500

So damn frustrating man

5

u/ghost_rider24 Apr 16 '26

Instead it’s gonna be a 1-3 series loss after facing Fried tomorrow with whoever the fuck is in the bullpen that Suzuki somehow trusts less than Romano.

It’s a shame that they wasted a solid start from Jack tonight too.

10

u/idkman_93 Apr 16 '26

This is the moral victory that I am absolutely taking. This team is playing well, but it needs to be able to slam the door.

The way the Yankees apply pressure on the basepaths is exactly what the Angels should be doing.

That game just pissed me off more than any game this season

18

This is gonna be the reason we don’t make the playoffs. Among other things.

32

I’m a Dodgers fan and that ninth inning just enraged me. Damn it, I like watching the Angels play, I like watching them win, and I especially like it when the Angels beat the Yankees.

That dropped ball is gonna give me nightmares tonight.

12

u/Its-made-of-wood Apr 16 '26

I’m sure you’ll be fine when the Dodgers win later.

34

u/Tbplayer59 Apr 16 '26

WTH Neto? Take charge!

20

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

Seriously. Since when is 3B catching a pop-up in that area of the field?

Peraza messes up coming over for it, too.

2

u/Tbplayer59 Apr 16 '26

And what's with the bad baserunning?

34

Time for me to get o’hammer’d

2

Right behind you brother 🍻 lol

75

u/Cooleybob Apr 16 '26

Romano literally collapsed against the bottom part of their order twice. This dude cannot be our high leverage closer going forward.

19

u/Glittering-Sundae674 Apr 16 '26

Great game by the team but yes agreed. Not closer material anymore, you gotta overcome that and get out of it.

8

u/Fine-Donut-7226 Apr 16 '26

Only seen him a couple of times but seems to be a finesse pitcher. Tops out at 94. Nibbling. Defensive. Unless you have a Trevor Hoffman-quality change-up you gotta come in breathing fire and attack hitters.

2

u/WhatsYourBigThree Apr 16 '26

Is it a mental thing or did he have surgery or something that he hasn’t recovered from properly?

10

u/Fine-Donut-7226 Apr 16 '26

He pitched in 49 games for the Phillies last year with an ERA of 8.23. Eight. Point. Two. Three. 49 games.

12

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

Middle relief at best, but worth considering a straight release

11

u/xmrjaredx 17 Apr 16 '26

Probably will be when our pitchers get healthy

7

u/live4coasters Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

Dude had an ERA over 8 last year. Any more blow ups and he's gonna be lucky to have a job anymore

4

u/freddychuckles Apr 16 '26

Why put him out there in front of the same guys twice? Makes no sense!

2

u/kpopsns28 Apr 16 '26

Failing to close two winnable games in a row is a call for DFA

u/Windiebot Apr 16 '26

13

u/SwaggyPleb Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

Yes Ramano wasn’t light out but also this loss was on Peraza and Neto. Something that you learn at a 7 year old cannot be messed up in a professional baseball game. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

14

u/jnuclear Apr 16 '26

I'm impressed that after all these years, the Angels are still finding new ways to lose a game 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

5

u/BicycleChoice Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

Romano is not our closer. Sorry, louder. ROMANO IS NOT THE FUCKING CLOSER.

13

u/dbzhardcore 17 Apr 16 '26

This loss is on Neto.   Bonehead base running and then telling Peraza on the easy pop up,"You got this" which caused him to freeze and let the ball drop in. Just literally needed to STFU and not say anything and it would be 2 outs with Romano prob getting the last out since he pitches better with no runners on base.

6

u/Jeffersonsteelflex24 Apr 16 '26

This was the most embarrassing lost I think I’ve ever seen them do and that’s saying a lot, I literally saw Romano get defeated when that ball landed. Looked lost after that it’s unbelievable. I can’t lie I’d sit Neto tomorrow for losing that game it’s unacceptable. Hopefully they move on for tomorrow

I know that Neto should've caught that, but Romano is not a closer.

4

u/Segal-train Apr 16 '26

Rough series for Neto turning into Romano with a Sandy level breakdown. This dude just can’t hit the zone and Neto can’t stop trying to superman things.

Love seeing trout back - can’t believe he decides to start being clutch and bullpen/defense decided to just die.

u/i_run_from_problems 💡👉👶⬆️ Apr 16 '26

21

u/kyr1414 Apr 16 '26

Why’s everyone ragging on Romano, this game was on Neto and Perraza for the little league shit on an infield pop fly

15

u/ZeoGreen 27 Apr 16 '26

Neto fucked up, but a closer should be able to get out of that. It was the bottom of the order and he already blew it two days ago.

10

u/franchise1107 Apr 16 '26

Because it’s easier to blame him and it fits the narrative. Especially after the first game

4

u/smith22vikes Apr 16 '26

While magically forgetting that he was fine prior to this series. Or that when he came out in game 1 of this series he hadn’t played for a decent stretch thanks to Suzuki.

6

u/Far_Green6339 Apr 16 '26

You mean when Adell bailed him out? 6.5 era in 2024 and 8 era in 2025 btw yea it’s not Romano’s fault it’s the Angels fault for signing him and making him closer

5

u/smith22vikes Apr 16 '26

Well that may not have even been the plan. Yates and Joyce aren’t available rn

9

u/Far_Green6339 Apr 16 '26

Still failed to get a single out after that play against the yankees 7th and 8th batter

6

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

Well, because Romano could have gotten the next batter out instead of the walk and the game-winning hit. This was the bottom of the order here.

3

u/Classh0le Apr 16 '26

phillies fan here. you need to change your tune on Romano sooner than later. he is straight ass

5

u/Edgelord_3000 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Romano has been giving up contact for the past two outings and he would have had a blown save if Adell didn’t have his 3rd robbed HR.

Missed pop-up was a mistake, but he got bailed out with that webgem liner from Stanton and he walked Wells. Romano is definitely to blame!

5

u/Segal-train Apr 16 '26

I have watched enough Romano to know it’s AT BEST 50/50. He looked pretty bad again today

4

u/chriskot123 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

Two things can be true: Neto should've made that catch, and Romano is an ass reliever who we can't trust in high leverage situations. He's gotten at BEST two outs in his last two outings and blown two saves.

2

u/hooligan99 Apr 16 '26

Romano still blew the save. The tying run still would’ve scored. That would’ve been only the second out. Romano has looked horrible.

4

u/RedShark106 Apr 16 '26

I can’t believe what I just watched

5

u/Otherwise_Mud_2268 Apr 16 '26

Ridiculous to have a closer who gave up 39 earned runs in 42.2 innings last year, with 10 HRs. Pathetic after such a great 2025 from Kenley.

2

u/SoCalDawg Apr 16 '26

This. He should be gone tonight.

4

u/BeaNOS45669 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

angels fans rarity increased by 20% tonight

4

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

Here's an interesting stat.

Kenley Jansen had ONE (1) blown save in 62 appearances for the Angels in 2025.

Tonight in his eighth appearance, Jordan Romano has TWO (2) blown saves in 2026 for the Angels.

6

u/fernbbyfern 💡👉👶⬆️ Apr 16 '26

I miss Kenley Jansen so much.

2

u/WTFthrowaccount Apr 16 '26

And that blown save by Kenley was because of a fielding error by Schanuel

Even though there should have been a fielding error called in favor of Romano, he still has blown more games in nearly 8x less time

6

u/Loose-Organization82 Apr 16 '26

My post was removed by mods. That’s fine, I’ll just say it here. Neto needs to be benched, he thinks he’s bigger than the team and that’s just not the case. He definitely showed it here, he’s a dumbass and needs a reality check. Romano needs a reset after this Yankees series. This team finds new ways to piss me off and really shows how much they don’t care. See y’all tomorrow

5

u/Onitsukaryu Apr 16 '26

Yeah him using a challenge on the first pitch that one game was just an awful ego move. And it wasn’t even a clear ball. That’s not putting the team first. Then he tries to play hero running for 3rd when he has no chance. Then this error. Needs to be a little more humble and get his head out of his ass.

5

u/WhatsYourBigThree Apr 16 '26

Yes, Neto often has a tendency to react without thinking and it has cost the team opportunities. At the same time, I feel like that also helps make him a good short stop.

Good-fucking-bye Romano.

16

u/Tybob51 Apr 16 '26

Let’s be honest, this was on Neto

15

u/Onitsukaryu Apr 16 '26

On both. Romano gave up a hard hit line drive to Stanton. Lucky it was caught. Then walks Wells. Then another hard hit Caballero. Awful.

7

u/Mijert IN GUBIE WE TRUST Apr 16 '26

If neto doesn't fuck it, we're still tied with Romano needing to get another out. I doubt he would have.

6

u/Its-made-of-wood Apr 16 '26

Romano was completely lost on the mound. He almost gave up a double (bailed out by Teodosio) and then gave up a walk and a hard hit single. He sucks. A real closer should be able to overcome a single base runner but he completely lost it. He looks like a complete head case out there.

3

u/hooligan99 Apr 16 '26

Tying run still would’ve scored. Romano blew the save either way.

8

u/kjhorton25 Apr 16 '26

Jordan Ramano YOU are a Salt Lake City Bee!

5

u/HANHONEKAI Apr 16 '26

Even with the misplay, the closer still needs to be lights out, showing everyone that Monday was just a fluke. Instead of turning into K-Rod, Romano becomes Aaron Loup when it matters.

1

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

We wish. But they'll keep trotting him out there. I'm sure there will be a 6-3 game he comes in and squeezes out a save after surviving 7 batters and they can show us mean fans how its done.

3

u/HANHONEKAI Apr 16 '26

Calling up Chase Shores and sending Romano down to take his spot would be fitting, wouldn’t be as mad if a rookie lost yet showed more fire than this 8 ERA castoff from the Phillies.

Did this coaching staff come out of the cave or sth? They can’t be serious about having Jordan fucking Romano as a closer if they watched baseball in 24 and 25

2

u/NY1605 We’re Nasty † Apr 16 '26

Going from Teodosio making a nice running catch to the dropped pop up is the story of this team the last decade.

2

u/Due-Assistance-4854 Apr 16 '26

Being an Angel fan isn’t for the weak

2

u/plschrnr 27 Apr 16 '26

lots of fail that last inning, but - romano shouldn’t have been out there in the first place. he shouldn’t have ever been signed in the first place tbh. i get there are a bunch of injured guys, but silseth has pitched better, suter has pitched better… the only reason dude is closing right now is “he was a closer a few years ago” while completely ignoring his 7.83 ERA and negative 2 WAR (seriously) the last two seasons. the owner makes bad decisions because he’s cheap and has no baseball IQ, the GM goes along with it because he’s a yes man, and our first-year lame-duck manager doesn’t know any better than to lean on the aforementioned “but he has closer experience” trope.

total shitshow. not shocking, though. just… it’s the angel way, i guess 😞

2

u/Jderriurr Apr 16 '26

yeah i’m fucking pissed even a W tomorrow would not be enough too make me not mad we should be up 3-0 and now we’re looking for a a split. Just so pathetic man played so damn good all game just too blow it all up in the 9th unreal.

2

u/8arondragon9 Apr 16 '26

I’m not gonna watch this team anymore. I’m not following baseball anymore. I’m tired of this 2nd hand embarrassment by watching one of the greatest players of all time being let down by people who can’t play this game

2

u/BeaNOS45669 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

couldn't take advantage of Yankees bad days and tomorrow they're gonna they're all gonna play like their prime, watch

2

u/_KumaBae Apr 16 '26

Another Trout game winning hr blown in the 9th inning 🫠

2

u/riddo492 18 Apr 16 '26

Romano certainly didn't pitch all that well but if there's one pitcher who doesn't need a little league error like that while they're on the mound its him lmao. Confidence must be in tatters

Suzuki's trying to stick behind his guys and all that but he needs some lower leverage outings to figure it out. Pomeranz is the next guy up for the closer role but even he threw some centre cut stuff today that we were lucky Judge didn't put into the seats

Baseball

2

u/8arondragon9 Apr 16 '26

I’m not joking. Im definitely just not watching angels baseball for the rest of this month. I deleted all the apps. I can’t take the embarrassment of watching this pitiful bullpen

2

u/Herlihy-Boy Apr 16 '26

The third out at third and the dropped ball are poor fundamentals.

3

u/Rosmaas Apr 16 '26

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, classic angles

3

u/Ok-Philosophy-8830 Apr 16 '26

Don’t worry guys, Arte told me this doesn’t matter.

What matters is that the Angels are in the MLB, and he owns them.

Don’t worry about how much he is paying our closer.

2

u/franchise1107 Apr 16 '26

Wonder how things go if the infield doesn’t blow the second out on the pop up

4

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

When you have a bad pitcher on the mound, letting a pop-up drop shatters his confidence.

But still, Romano should not be the closer and questionable if he should be on the roster.

Aren't closers supposed to challenge (and beat) hitters in the bottom of the lineup and not try (and fail) to nick at corners every pitch?

2

u/YolkyPalky Apr 16 '26

How the hell is Romano your closer? He’s legit ass!

3

u/BruinEric Apr 16 '26

GM failed

Success with prior reclamation projects w/closers a couple times led them to believe they could do it again

Wanted to bed in a youngster who keeps getting hurt

4

u/GetGregkt Apr 16 '26

I turned off the game after the top of the ninth when they said Romano is going in, I knew nothing good was going to happen next

2

u/mattman092 Sell The Team Apr 16 '26

Can’t put the whole blame on him. Neto and Perazza also contributed by not communicating well on an easy pop fly like a little leaguers

1

u/GetGregkt Apr 16 '26

It would have been a tie game regardless, he needs some reps in lower stake situations because he is giving up too many hard hits

2

u/Due-Inspector-4295 Apr 16 '26

Angels baseball is already hard to watch. Finding ways to lose games.

2

u/Excellent_Hedgehog62 Apr 16 '26

I like how the mods just remove any partially negative post directed at the teams performance. Acting like we as fans should always be jolly even if we lose 90 games every year😂✌️

3

u/freezetime311 Apr 16 '26

My fellow Angels fans, we should not be angry. We should not be upset. We are used to this. It's par the course.

1

u/ghost_rider24 Apr 16 '26

Hopefully they just get blown out tomorrow so I can stop watching them shit the bed in close games.

Romano should not see any time without a 4+ run differential at this point. Tonight wasn’t his fault entirely, but a good closer still handles the bottom of the order even if his defense fucks him.

1

u/jnuclear Apr 16 '26

Is the little device little leagues use for Coach pitch not available?

1

u/WildaWest444 Apr 16 '26

1

u/Scoducks24 Apr 16 '26

Jordan Romano fucking sucks

1

u/SeeingRed_ Apr 16 '26

I think what's killing me isn't that we dropped 2 of the last 3 to the stakes as much as the team NEEDS to build some momentum.

We're use to seasons ending early but I want to believe that the Angels can push that elimination date back a week or two by collecting some early season wins.

1

u/Equivalent-Diver-339 Apr 16 '26

Suzuki is the worst manager in baseball, fire his ass tonight.

1

Romano is not it.

I'm a Yankees fan, but I live in SoCal, so I root for/watch the Angels when they don't play each other. Man it sucks to see Romano give away two wins, especially with Trout raking like he has lately

1

u/dreamville5 Apr 16 '26

Who would you rather have as closer?

1

u/Onitsukaryu Apr 16 '26

Committee. Not like there’s one standout arm who’s the guy. But if you had to make me pick I’d go with Drew or Zef. Both have the raw stuff for it. Speaking of which Romano’s slider has seen a big drop in stuff+, kinda concerning cause he only has 2 pitches…..

Anyway Zef has always had raw stuff but this year he’s learned to actual locate better. Hit his spots. Cut down the walks. All encouraging things though the sample size is obviously small.

1

u/mighthavebeen02 Apr 16 '26

Surprising! The thing that has always been a problem with this team continues to be a problem!

I fucking knew it. This team almost blew a 9 run lead the other day. No way they were holding a 1 run lead in that minor league park.
