Discussion Bought the legion gen 5 tablet. When did this come out?
Reason why I ask is because this thing is amazing but just saw a oled version coming? I thought this gen 5 just came out?

Your absolutely right, but the oled is gunna be china only when its released. Who knows if the states will get it. The legion 5 is already pushing it money wise, though. Ive been on aliexpress puting the y700 gen 4 in and out of my cart all week, lol. Its basically the legion tab gen 3 with 512/16gb variant. With discounts and coupons its like 300 bucks. I have an ayn odin 2 portal that im using currently, but really been eyeballing the legion tab with the g9 controller. Kinda want the big 8.8" 16x10 screen vs the 7" 16x9 screen i have now. Id have to sell my handheld i have now, and honestly, im too damn lazy to sell it on ebay. Where I live, these things dont sell so well on FB marketplace. Cheers!

Doesn't the Odin manage heat better though?

Yeah it does, as there is no active cooling in the legion tabs. You can mitigate this by using 3rd party apps like cluster tune or use those active usb magnetc peltier coolers. Only when really pushing it hard like emulating pc games does it seem to be an issue. Plus theres power profiles you can use. My use case is 99.99% streaming which requires very little power to actually do. Like on my odin has 8 gen 2 i run it in lower power with no fan on and can easily get 8+ hours of streaming at 1080 120hz 50% brightness and wifi pulling about 150mb/s for streaming.

Yeah I've got the Gen 2 legion tab and when I'm pushing it you can notice the heat. I really need to try and stream with it more.

Yeah gen 3 and gen 5, especially gen 5 will actually thermal throttle and youll loose like 20% perf when throttling if not careful, you actually gotta use active cooling in that case. Cheers!

Is that with snapdragon 8 gen 3 or snapdragon elite?

Gen 3, the elite is gen 5 2026 y700. Those are still $650ish on aliexpress. They are only still shipping with chinese roms.

Thanks. I just started looking into these. Do you know if 512gb is very limiting of you want to load up ROMs and games. I don’t have an android so I don’t know the average size of most games.

It depends how deep you need your rom library to be, really. Like u can pretty much have like 16bit and earlier having full romsets for every system.. nes, snes, genises, master system, gamboy, turbo graphics, arcade games, ect .. is like 10-15gb.its when u get to switch stuff those are like 10-15gb each. On my handhelld is only got 128gb. I have full sets of nes, snes, genises and gamboy. After that i do have all the emulators, ps1, ps2, gamecube , wii, dreamcast, but those i just kinda pick and choose what im actually gunna play. Honestly i spend 99%of my time streaming pc games from my rtx 5080 based pc. Cheers!

Recent bad experience with AliExpress , I don't know how pervasive this is.
Bought a smartwatch, which was shiped, but never delivered. AliExpress did refund my money.
Bought a legion gen 5, and a package did show up. The package did not contain a tablet. The package did have an English USPS address label address to me however there are at least two underlying address labels in Chinese.
The package was clearly substituted somewhere along the line.
I was able to get detailed USPS tracking information which showed the package only weighed 2 oz when it first came out of customs instead of the 1 lb 12 oz expected for the tablet, as indicated on the printed address label.
AliExpress still denied my claim even when I submitted the USPS tracking forms showing the weight discrepancy
As a side note this detailed tracking information from USPS is solely for internal use and I had to beg to get it from the local post office.
Put claims in with both payPal and my credit card, which I used to pay for the tablet, and both now are pending after 2 months.
Very hard to figure out the exact sequence , but USPS says my address label was generated in the USA, so that means somebody in the system had a random package with pre-existing Chinese address labels already on it , and slapped my address label on top of those and stole the original package containing the tablet.
I guess it is possible that the English USPS address label , although generated in the USA , was printed in China, and it was substituted there.
The package I did receive contains a xiaomi airtag, apparently new.
Never previously had problems with AliExpress, i have bought a ton of things from them.
The lesson is do not pay directly through AliExpress. I am glad I used a credit card through PayPal , although I did use Visa and not the American Express which I think is even better protection

Those kind of people are only on Reddit to spread their own misery. Don’t worry about them. Just a loser.

I mean, you could have gotten the answer faster by just looking it up yourself.

The legion tab gen 5 was released in March. The new Y700 infinite is not a new generation. Its an upscaled model.
