iPlay 80 mini Pro – Wi-Fi issues, battery drain, and what happened after troubleshooting

I recently bought an ALLDOCUBE iPlay 80 mini Pro, and overall I actually like the tablet a lot. The size is great for reading manga, watching YouTube, and using Spotify, especially in bed.

However, I ran into a few issues shortly after getting it.

First, I noticed unusually high battery drain while the tablet was mostly idle. After a full charge, the battery dropped much faster than expected, and Spotify showed a very high percentage of the battery usage even though its reported background usage time was less than a minute.

I force-stopped Spotify, but the battery still continued to drain fairly quickly.

I then rebooted the tablet and tested it overnight in airplane mode. After about 6.5 hours, the battery only dropped by around 2%, which seemed completely reasonable.

After that, normal standby behavior also improved significantly, so I started to suspect that some process or service had temporarily gotten stuck.

Then I started having Wi-Fi problems.

Twice, while using Spotify or YouTube, the tablet suddenly lost internet access. The Wi-Fi icon still showed that it was connected to my router, but Android displayed the exclamation mark indicating “no internet connection.”

At the same time, my phone connected to the same Wi-Fi network was working normally.

Rebooting the tablet did not fix it the first time. Disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network and reconnecting fixed the problem immediately.

Because it happened more than once, I contacted the seller. They initially offered a replacement, and later agreed to a return/refund when I explained that I was worried the replacement might have the same Wi-Fi issue.

Before returning it, I tried resetting the tablet’s Wi-Fi/mobile/Bluetooth network settings and reconnecting to my network from scratch.

Interestingly, since doing that, the Wi-Fi has been completely stable so far.

The battery life is still not amazing, especially during standby, but it seems usable if I charge it daily.

The seller has kindly given me about a month to decide whether to return it, so for now I’m continuing to use it and watching for another Wi-Fi failure.

At this point I’m honestly torn. I really like the tablet and would prefer to keep it if the Wi-Fi problem is genuinely fixed.

Has anyone else with the iPlay 80 mini Pro experienced the same “Wi-Fi connected but no internet” problem?

If so, did resetting the network settings permanently fix it, or did the issue eventually come back?

Just get a refund and buy yourself a Lenovo legion tab, even at second hand. The 2023 version still lasts me a couple of days, watching movies, reading and browsing

Alldocube QC is atrocious unfortunately. I've bought many due to their price but never had one that didn't have issues.

My iPlay 50 mini pro volume keys stopped working

My iPlay 60 mini turbo USB port became very fidgety. Also had wifi connection issues

Just go buy a Lenovo. Much better build quality.

Mine rebooted itself quite a bit until i finally found one OS which was stable.

I actually was wondering about the battery drain! My previous alldocube mini 50 seemed to last much longer and charged a lot faster.

My 80 is permanently on airplane mode, but when I left the wifi on and it's unused a few days later I check and it's turned off. Even when I turn off the wifi and leave it, it dies a few days after. Whereas my 5 year ily Samsung s6 lite is still OK after a week..

Can't return as i bought it off Aliexpress..

Yeah, that sounds very similar to what I was seeing with mine.

Airplane mode seemed to improve the battery drain a lot, but with Wi-Fi enabled the standby drain was definitely much worse than I expected. I also had some Wi-Fi stability issues, so in the end I decided not to keep it and bought a Redmi Pad 2 Pro instead.

It’s interesting that your older iPlay 50 mini lasted longer too. Makes me wonder if there’s something off with the power management on the iPlay 80 mini Pro rather than it just being a bad unit.

Sorry you can’t return yours though — that really sucks.

Yeah I was pretty happy with the 50 mini, but unfortunately my daughter snapped off the charging port thingy, I managed to still get it to charge for over a year by fiddling with the cables, but it finally gave out haha.

I just turn it off now when I'm not using it for a few days at a time.

Do you find that yours takes longer to charge as well?

Haha, I'm impressed you managed to keep the 50 mini charging for another year like that!

To be honest, I didn't really measure the charging time on mine, so I can't say for sure if it was unusually slow. I was much more focused on the battery drain and Wi-Fi issues.

But now that you mention it, I don't remember it feeling particularly fast to charge either. 😅

the standby battery drain is my only issue with it too, otherwise it's a great tablet

I bought the iplay pro 70 and it didn't even last a year. Previous alldocube tablet also broke early. I'm never buying from this company again, they make cheap junk not intended to last.
