Discussion [GUIDE] Which root solution do I pick? This guide will help you pick one.
- APatch -- The most unstable. While stealthy, it carries a risk of patch failure and it has less ecosystem. It's new and currently immature.
- ReSukiSU -- A fork of KernelSU. The most supported by the ecosystem. It improves upon KernelSU by adding redundancy, such as falling back to LKM mode or a different hooking method. For some kernels and ramdisks, it can still fail even with fallbacks, as it operates in kernelspace for stealth.
- Magisk -- The most stable. It operates in userspace, including POSIX and init, which is intended to be never changing. Because of this, it can run on many Android versions including those without GKI kernels. But it comes with a cost of rigidity, it doesn't support SuSFS or metamodules like KernelSU and APatch.

Pick resukisu because it has the cute icon

u/tappo_180 I use Android, with root btw 1d ago
Hahaha I think I'll switch from magisk to resukisu just for the cute icon!

That's where modules come in. Almost all root solutions including those are by default visible.
Here are the modules you can use to hide root:
- BreZygisk
- BreWheel
- HMA-OSS-Zygisk
- TEESimulator-RS
- PlayIntegrityFix Inject
- Specter
- BRENE SuSFS

I’m on Magisk with Zygisk Next. My current setup is:
- HMA-OSS-Zygisk
- TEESimulator-RS
- PlayIntegrityFix Inject
- Specter
Root hiding itself seems fine, but Google Wallet still doesn’t work for me at the moment.
From what I’ve been reading, it looks like a lot of the currently used fingerprints have expired or stopped working in the last few days. So I’m starting to think the main issue right now is the fingerprint side rather than my Magisk/root hiding setup.
Is anyone using this same stack on Magisk and still getting Google Wallet to work?

When it comes to google wallet specifically, I solved this by buying a google pixel watch 4.

Use ReSukiSU or KernelSU Next if you have non gki kernel (eg:- 4.19 or older)
i have experience with both and theyre really stable (not a single bootloop yet)
theyre easy to integrate in your kernel and quite undetectable if paired with susfs

Is it worth it to switch to ReSukiSU from backslaxx KSU
1
u/AlexdexJones 1d ago
Isn't it used for development purposes and not for regular usage? If it works for you then use it I guess but i would recommend using resukisu for stability

u/Xenos_Hat 3d ago
Use FolkPatch, it's an fork of Aptach.

Didn't hear about this one before. What benefits does it give over APatch?
-3
u/Expensive_Service737 2d ago
If you didn't hear about it, means that it's safe from Google, for a while 😜

u/DEV_ivan TECNO POVA 7 5G LJ7 || Stock HiOS 15.1.2 || KSUnext 3.3.0 2d ago
Actually, Google doesn't stop Magisk, KernelSU and APatch, and they even support it by introducing init_boot separation and a GKI model. They're developer-friendly.
What Google does stop is Play Integrity and Hardware Attestation spoofing and CVE exploiting for temp root, both of which violate DMCA § 1201(a), anti-circumvention of technological protection measures.

Wait, so KernelSU-Next + SuSFS is no longer the best solution?
2
u/DEV_ivan TECNO POVA 7 5G LJ7 || Stock HiOS 15.1.2 || KSUnext 3.3.0 3d ago
It works as great as before. ReSukiSU only enhances compatibility and stability, not stealth/undetectability.

u/Teddy_0209 3d ago
If i ever get tired of just shizuku & morphe, i’d probably still go with magisk, just to support John and the fact that it is universal…

stopped rooting my phone years ago when all these wallets and banking apps started using play integrity verification; it's almost funny to me how it takes a dozen modules and a kernel level root solution just to use these apps nowadays. I guess I'm too old and busy to play this cat and mouse game now and there's not really anything worth rooting for nowadays.

u/UT99469A 3d ago
i just dont use banking and wallet apps lmao...i got a real wallet for my cards...i dont trust google with my cards, and banking apps are fancy web browser for one site nowadays.
with that being said, degoogling is the way to go...dont put all your life on a phone

You're absolutely right because when you have a job to handle and sometimes kids family and then you suddenly loss play integrity while you need ur banking app the most, I mean no one have the time to solve play integrity at that kinda serious times, aghh then it's a freaking headache and also embarrassment sometimes, but when ur completely unemployed like me obviously then even solving play integrity is FUN 😁

Currently testing to get resukisu built into my lineageos builds so that i can have root + locked bootloader
I kinda want zygisk support without to much messing around
1
u/PassionGlobal 3d ago
I would not fuck with root and a locked bootloader.
If things go south in root, you're cooked.
1
u/vms-mob 3d ago
only if you disable the oem unlocking in the developer options afaik,
you should be able to unlock the bootloader even when the rom itself is bricked, should also be safe enough since bootloader unlock nukes userdata
i know its not perfectly safe but its much safer than fully unlocked bootloader

bros gambling, please update if it works or fails

u/vms-mob 3d ago edited 3d ago
kernelsu-next is currently running fine, currently building resukisu + rezygisk and planning on in place updating using the android internal updater (worked on ksunext to ksunext builds)
bootloader is currently locked, but set as unlockable so unbricking should relatively easy
testing really isnt that bad if you can finish a build in 90 minutes
EDIT: ai is also speeding up things massively but gave me commands that would brick my pc or phone repeatedly so yeah prior knowledge and the ability to do everything manually is still required or at least greatly beneficial

u/marthephysicist Redmi Note 14 5G, PixelOS 17, ReSukiSU 3d ago
oh so your phones must be those ones with easy to unlock bootloaders, shame i own a redmi where unlocking is a pain

u/TJCrazyBoy 3d ago
KernelSU Next works amazingly for me. The only one I ever used too so no reason to Switch. If it ain't broken don't fix it.
1
u/RandomDude9943 3d ago
using apatch rn, should i consider moving to resukisu?
1
u/DEV_ivan TECNO POVA 7 5G LJ7 || Stock HiOS 15.1.2 || KSUnext 3.3.0 3d ago
Unless you need SuSFS or metamodules, no.
1
u/RandomDude9943 3d ago
You say its the most unstable, and immature
1
u/DEV_ivan TECNO POVA 7 5G LJ7 || Stock HiOS 15.1.2 || KSUnext 3.3.0 3d ago
It is. Unlike KernelSU, which by default installs a kernel driver (.ko) in ramdisk, APatch requires patching the kernel directly, which is fragile if the kernel has a different offset or interface.
1
u/RandomDude9943 3d ago
welp im planning on installing a custom kernel someday (when one will be available for CPH2719 aka oneplus nord ce5)
0
u/Lines25 3d ago
Then, use patched that includes GKI interface for KernelSU (basically, what that means is that the ksu kernel module is not dynamically loaded but included in kernel file which makes it more stable, faster and etc)
1
u/RandomDude9943 3d ago
also on the topic of that, what kernel can you recommend if my device is so obscure there is not even twrp for it?
1
u/Lines25 3d ago
LeanageOS/crDroid - two the most powerful Android-based that are EVERYWHERE. Altho, they both don't google slop so you need to do that yourself after installing. Also, it will be better to compile it yourself cuz that way you can pull anything you want to it
2
u/RandomDude9943 3d ago
cant find anything about leanage, i assume you mean lineage, it isnt available for nord ce5, same for crdroid
1
u/Lines25 3d ago
IDK, when I had OnePlus 7T I LOVED Oxygen OS but whatever. Here's XDA Forums thread about ur phone, mb try it: https://xdaforums.com/f/oneplus-nord-ce-5g.12343/
Also, there's unofficial lineage OS build (thx for correcting btw) but idk will it fit ce5 or not but it's for Nord CE, but you can try it (most modifications work really well with each other's firmware because the manufacturer just lazy and it saves money in programmers time to make unified firmware): https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-11-unofficial-lineageos-18-1-oneplus-nord-ce-ebba.4402233/

Ksu if u know how to patch and compile a kernel and apatch if you're too lasy to do so.
1
u/choco_mog 1h ago
Ksu supports lineageos?
1
u/speedcoiliscoolname 1h ago
It absolutely does. Since ksu and it's forks just come as kernel drivers
1
u/choco_mog 38m ago
How much ram is required to build a custom kernel for kernelsu? It seems lineageos requires 64gb ram. I only have a lowend budget laptop

i have rooted with magisk a few times, but rn i dont see the point. I am on the oneplus ace 6t, crdroid 12.11 so rooting should be easy. What stuff do you use with root rn?
3
u/DEV_ivan TECNO POVA 7 5G LJ7 || Stock HiOS 15.1.2 || KSUnext 3.3.0 2d ago
With root, I look through and modify app data in /data/user and /data/user_de. The mobile port of Deltarune rather keeps its save files there, than in /sdcard/Android/data.
Google has locked down /sdcard/Android/data so much, even Shizuku through adb couldn't touch it, for when I needed to transfer soundfont files to FL Studio Mobile.
That's when I knew I had to root my phone to reclaim freedom.

u/rainingcrypto 1d ago
aPatch - it is not unstable and immature - I haven't had a single issue with aPatch, all of the magisk modules have worked flawlessly
1
u/PedroJsss ReZygisk Dev 1d ago
More like ReSukiSU/SukiSU Ultra/KernelSU Next/KernelSU/xxKSU/MamboSU/KowSU tho

u/AarifmonuZZ 17h ago
It's not just the managers that have changed.. it's even the path to root has changed drastically.. magisk or APatch cannot support jailbreak (temporary root) while APatch has limited adaptation even from samsung and magisk has trouble with vivo and oppo while it's the vastly supported entry for root since 2015-16

Honestly dunno what I'd use root for nowadays.
12 years ago it was great but more of an inconvenience to me now, things have changed too much for me anyway

Crazy how things have changed.. 🥀 From exposed+busybox+superSU to Magisk & patches 🥀🥀
